I never used to feel the cold but as I’ve got older I’ve become less tolerant of both hot & cold weather. Socks & slippers on now although I should never wander around barefoot (although I do) because of my diabetes and concerns over foot infections.

If you're cold eat some ice cream.
It warms you up due to the fat content.

Re: August and the heating has gone on
I meant that if I was feeling cold when it's 12.6 degrees, I'd sooner put another jumper on than whack the central heating or gas fire on.
Not that I would feel sufficiently cold at that temperature to need to switch it on. According to my phone it's 14 degrees currently, and I'd describe it as warm.

Fair dos. Is it 14 degrees in your house or outside though? It’s 13 degrees here but the thermostat is saying it’s 21.5 inside.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:10 pmI meant that if I was feeling cold when it's 12.6 degrees, I'd sooner put another jumper on than whack the central heating or gas fire on.

I use the weather app on my phone to check the temp outside but I check the inside temp via the thermostat or the phone app.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:19 pmI always thought it was the outside temperature to be fair, although I could be wrong.

You'll have a central heating sensor.

Re: August and the heating has gone on
Nah thermostat is good. 21 degrees is a fairly optimum room temperature. HSE says that a workplace shouldn’t be below 16 degrees so if it’s 14 degrees inside your house and you’re comfortable you must be cold blooded!!fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:19 pmI always thought it was the outside temperature to be fair, although I could be wrong.

Even outside?
It works there too!
Either way, I'm not cold, I can't remember the last time I was at this time of year, which is why I stand by my 'October' rule.

I think most households have them in the hallway, although it's a bit like a baby pigeon - you never see them.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:32 pmEven outside?

To be fair, I've been called worse!
I firmly believe it's being used to standing on freezing terraces in my youth, usually watching the Clarets get stuffed, that have made me hardened to 'cold' weather!

Mine went on, I think it's been so hot lately it's the comparison , if it had of dropped slowly it wouldn't have been as much an issue.

As Ronnie Barker said - it's choking in Woking, the sun is killing 'em in Gillingham, it's cool in Goole, dry in Rye, and if you live in Lissingdown- take an umbrella!Wokingclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:44 pmWe've just turned the air con on, was getting too hot here in Woking

That one hour did the trick yesterday, warmed the house up for the rest of the day. It’s currently 15.1 in here and that’s fine.

15-16c here in sunny West Yorkshire. No need for it to come on today.
You can quote the above when it's bloody freezing this evening and I turn the bugger on.

2 hours I think is too long, within 30 mins 45 mins no more than a hr it should be warm unless it's a big house I'd personally be wondering where I was losing heat & thinking about insulation.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 1:48 pmI was up at 6 am this morning and the house was too cold so put the heating on. Re: August and the heating has gone on
When I was poor I wouldn't turn on the heating until October as a rule. The rule kept me disciplined and saved me money.
How did I stay warm when it got cold? I wore extra jumpers, had blankets on the sofa, drank hot drinks, ate thick & hearty stews and if I was still cold I did sit ups and press ups to get my blood circulating.
When I was relatively better off and could easily afford my heating bills, I allowed myself the luxury of turning the heating on when it got cold no matter what time of year it was.
Both systems are fine, in their own way. But please, nobody sit in the cold. Especially the elderly or infirm.

I’ve had the heating on and off for a week or so and I live in Bournemouth. The strange is that the nights are warmer and you have to discard duvets, etc. I must go back to sleep. Zzzzzxzzzz

This topic reminds me why I left UK
Last week it was 117 deg F I think that is around 47 C, got to love California !
That temp is a bit unusually hot even for here.
Your talking about heaters I’m worried the air conditioner keeps working
