Un bloody believable. All he had to do was get the ball past half pint and he blasts it over the top.

Clean sheet, penalty "saved". Right pick by manager.

Yesterday’s cricket has saved the sporting weekend at least.
Re: Pickford in goal for England
Woeful performance. England have some top class young players but this manager isn't going to get the best out of them.

Gareth's post match will be interesting. How will he put a positive spin on that?
Actually deserved to lose. At least Iceland's penalty was the correct decision. England's certainly wasn't.

Bizarre end to an uninspiring game.
Don't think either were pens.
A weakened Iceland didn't deserve to lose though.

Re: Pickford in goal for England
I don’t think that performance deserves any hysteria, after all the team hasn’t played together for 10 months and was missing key players to boot. But there was such a lack of cohesion due to a weird team selection and our defensive frailties were exposed the single time that Iceland attempted to attack.

To be fair we had a perfectly good goal disallowed after about 5 mins. When you try to hang on to a 0-0 you can’t really feel hard done to when you’re sucker punched.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 6:53 pmBizarre end to an uninspiring game.

Re: Pickford in goal for England
There may indeed be a bit of that going on from some people but you can't hide it was a very underwhelming performance. Lacked guile and creativity against what was a very defensive Iceland team. Considering the talent we have it feels like Southgate has the handbrake on when we play.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 6:53 pmSad state of affairs when people are cheering against our national team cos the managers doesnt pick their favourite players. That there is the exact reason why Joe Gomez shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad. I honestly cannot understand what people see in the lad, got away with one yet again. I think having VVD alongside him in the Premier League is blurring people's vision.

Re: Pickford in goal for England
England got more jammy there than a factory of jammy dodgers, once they face the big boys reality will bite, I hardly think France, Germany, Holland, Italy or Spain will be quaking in their boots witnessing that bore fest.
I'll go on record now England won't come anywhere close to winning the next Euro's, they're miles off the pace, as proven by the results against the top ranked nations in recent years.
And Gomez what was he doing, he's a lucky boy that pen was skied.

England probably won’t come near to winning the Euros but that’s hardly big news - we’re not one of the best few teams in Europe.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 6:58 pmEngland got more jammy there than a factory of jammy dodgers, once they face the big boys reality will bite, I hardly think France, Germany, Holland, Italy or Spain will be quaking in their boots witnessing that bore fest.

As for the big boys quaking this their boots, we’ve put in some very good performances against some of the best sides in recent years. As poor as England were, today’s game is hardly a yardstick.

Re: Pickford in goal for England
That's true.
Think I'm as disappointed at our lack of zip in the second half as anything else.
Just hate games, any games, influenced like that at the end.
Though guess it's a talking point, unlike most the rest of the match.
Overall, thought they defended well.
Re: Pickford in goal for England
I'm at a complete loss why some really think Joe Gomez is going to turn into a top class defender.

Re: Pickford in goal for England
I’ve said this so many times. A half decent CB in that Liverpool side wouldn’t be getting 13 yellows. Debatable pen or not today he was still the wrong side of his man. Gets away with so much because of his pace.whiffa wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 6:58 pmThat there is the exact reason why Joe Gomez shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad. Re: Pickford in goal for England
So what does the manager do now?
Does he drop a keeper whos just kept a clean sheet and kept out a penalty to help his side to victory, or does he give one of the other keepers a run out and if so does he go for the consistency of Pope or form and youthful promise of Henderson
Its not easy being a footy manager but these are the tough decisions they are paid to make.
If you were the boss what would you do?

In what way did Pickford 'Save' or 'Keep out' the penalty? For a start, he dived the wrong way and second, the Icelandic player blasted it over the top.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 7:10 pmSo what does the manager do now?

I didnt see it so if that was the case it must have been a very strong team performance. I'll take our keeper having nothing to do any day of the week
