He's younger than Cork and only 6 months older than Westwood.

Tom Davies is shite.

If he is available, could see him going to Leeds
Imagine the meltdown on here if we bid for him and that happened

Guys, 30 is the new 25. The science behind football now means they are maintaining at a much higher standard for longer than they ever had. Delph at 31 would be a snip. Get this deal done.

A fit Delph would be a great signing for us, he has quality, and he’s not afraid of a tackle

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If Burnley think Delph is a good signing, then I'm sure that other clubs will as well. That leaves the same old problem. Would he come, what would he cost?
I really think that's it's time to think of players outside of the UK. Keen to come to the EPL and would probably cost less, both in fees and wages. We didn't do too bad with Defour, did we? I'm sure that there are others like him out there somewhere. A bit of midfield class is what we are missing, whether that's an attacking midfielder or a defensive one.

He's also extremely injury prone. It seems like we're attempting to put together the oldest squad in premier league history.claretandy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 8:52 amVersatile is Delph, he would cover both full back positions as well as all the midfield slots.

Interesting that we appeared to play 433 in one of the games yesterday.
could Delph be the signing that allows us to try that formation this season? Front six something like
Westwood Delph Brownhill
Gudmundsson Wood McNeil

To me this could be a number of things
1 Is almost done and he is laughing that be broke the story
2 it’s been rejected already and we have lo balled again
3 The is no real interest whether he was at it deliberately or got some misinformation
Personally probably 2 for me

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Nah. He was bobbins last season but he's not utter bobbins as a player. He's a young player who hasn't been consistently managed (how many different managers with different styles has he had in his short career?) and is a target for the fans at Everton which has damaged his confidence. A fresh start with a consistent approach and he'll become the player he promised to be when he broke through.
See a lot of parallels to Westwood when we signed him, Villa fans thought (still think) he was utter bobbins but he's become one of the better creative midfielders in the league because he's been developed by Dyche and he's not had fans on his back all the time which has built his confidence.
It's only because he's been mismanaged and has had a very poor season that he could potentially be in reach for a club like us.

Delph would be superb if fit, but it’s a massive IF. We can’t afford to have someone in his wages on the Pat n Mick for 2-3 years.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Don't think anyone doubts Delph's ability but for a decent fee and sure to be at least our joint highest paid player is he worth it with his injury record?
He was only available for 45% of last season.
He only has 185 PL appearances at 30 years old. For comparison Tom Davies is 22 and has 105.

You have to trust the Burnley medical team on one. They will need to be thorough in their appraisal of his injuries and with the medical. The terms will be structured around appearances. In the year before signing Jay Rod we had exactly the same questions about his fitness

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Delph has always been overrated in my opinion. But would do a job for us at Burnley... though won’t be value for money unless he keeps us in the Premier League.
Tom Davis is your no bells, no whistles type of player... probably under appreciated, a sensible signing with ‘Moneyball’ kind of approach and might excel under Dyche.
Additional: Davis is only 22... I thought he was closer to 27

Delph would be a fantastic signing if he manages to stay fit. As mentioned before, with Cork out for the foreseeable and Hendrick gone, it could prove to be a masterstroke.

There's no way Delph comes in as anything other than our joint highest paid player and that's him taking a big pay cut.
That's not cheap.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Cheap was the wrong word. The point I am making is, the clubs with bigger budgets won’t risk injury-prone players.
Steven Defour wouldnt be anywhere near Turf Moor if he was fit. I bet a few clubs were weighing up it up, but Burnley were the club who to took the risk.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
For the money Delph would be on I'm not sure he'd be worth the risk with his injury record. Have we completely given up on having any kind of European scouting network?

Delph went to city to be a bit part player but from all accounts actually had a very successful stint. It hasn’t quite worked out at Everton but hopefully this is the move he needs to help push himself towards the England squad again

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Delph strikes me as another Lennon type signing. Career on a downward trajectory, injury prone. Lennon offered very poor value in terms of how often he played (and his performances on the whole) relative to his likely earnings. High probability that Delph would be similar. We desperately need to develop a scouting network that extends beyond old lads at Everton (or Stoke).

Charlton
Brentford
Man City
Leeds
Norwich
Brighton
Aston Villa
Swansea
Bristol City
West Brom
And Stoke.
We have had one player I think from Everton in goodness knows how many years.
It’s amazing trying to understand what some fans want. Fed up that we don’t sign or are linked with anyone - then when are...too old...from the wrong club....too young etc etc.

Age isn't the issue here, it's the staying fit. Wasn't he in one of the England squads fairly recently? Can't believe people are turning up their noses at the possibility of signing him.

We signed Tony Grant from Man City
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
MD Wat has it right here, a left sided midfielder who ticks the Dyche requirements. It may well be a case of our bonus arrangements coming into play to provide the right financial package for the deal.
You can see him fitting in at our place and like all signings there is an element of luck involved regarding his availability due to injuries/niggles.
I would like to hear Claretspice's views here, he unfortunately doesn't seem to have posted for a while, hope he's ok.

Gazza and Lennon.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Delph has only played 75 more Prem Games than Tom Davies which is all one needs to say about the two, one aged just 22 and the other nearly 31.
Everton will not sell Davies as he has much more to give than Delph IMO

You can see the reluctance of certain posters on here to go for Delph. I could understand that if our recruitment in general was at least as good as average PL sides in this area. However based on the last 2-3 years we are probably bottom or thereabouts in the PL recruitment rankings
Not long ago he was "captain material" for England and Man City.We have some great players but not many vocal leaders on the pitch, and not had so since Joey left. This guy could fill the role Joey left, which no other Burnley player has been able to do in the last few years. He would be a great signing (subject to meeting stringent medicals from our club). Also what BFC needs in view of its small squad is versatility and I suspect this guy could slot into 3-4 positions at least. Would make my week if it came off

Your missing my point, I’m saying if Burnley want to sign high calibre players - basically they have risk ‘damaged goods’... which isn’t a bad thing, if it works out ok.

I've watched Davies plenty, there's a good player there that's had his confidence shot. I'd just prefer to go for something longer term and with resale potential.
To be honest neither would be my first choice. Would much prefer Will Hughes.

We have an occasional poster on this board who is an Evertonian - he would be delighted for anyone to take Delph off their hands but believes his wages are very prohibitive to that actually happening. Also thinks that Tom Davies has not pushed on from his early promise.
