So basically Southgate has cost us the chance of keeping Tarks simply because he refuses to select him and he thinks he will get a better chance of being picked at West Ham?

Cheers Gareth.

I honestly don't think Southgate gives a toss whether Tarkowski plays for us or West ham, to be honest.

Bit of a stretch to blame Mr Incompetent for West Ham making a bid...

Nope no clue how to spend money so as to finish 7th and 10th in four seasons back in the PL with one of the lowest budgets.

I was responding more to Alex James tweet. Tarks must be thinking that to get a chance he needs to move club. Southgates refusal to pick him may just sway his mind about the move. Not sure about Champions League at West Ham though :D
It may be the journos just going off that interview in which he said he wanted to play at the highest level...but what player wouldn't say that? West Ham would be a purely financial move but would present quite a few career risks for him. Leicester are a different story.

How do you know he won't?
Is it because he's at Burnley?

The other lad has played 3 hours of first team football and you seem more convinced he will and I'm not even sure why.
I don't know anything about the Portuguese lad, but I do think it's a stretch to think McNeil will get to the top 1% of players like Ronaldo or Mbappe. A big stretch. As young as he is, I think that's fairly obvious. Take Ryan Giggs as a young comparison, worlds apart in terms of ability. To get to that very top level, the ability shines through pretty early. McNeil is a wonderful player and I hope he stays another few years, but I'd say pretty confidently he won't be anywhere near Ronaldo or Mbappe's level or achieve anywhere near the things they've achieved.

Not convinced they are. They're massively reliant on Vardy. He will fade, they need to seriously invest or adapt. Their Plan A is hit it long to Vardy. Plan B is a lot less effective. They won't be the force they were without a serious overhaul and that could mean bobbing along mid table or lower.

Really feeling for our manager right now.I said in a post a few days ago it would be nice for the club or Board to come out saying the club did not need to sell, and it would probably be another job for SD. Sure enough SD made a comment on these lines at the start of the week.

Now all claret fans live in fear it might not only be Tarks thats going (just down to time and the right bid), but rumours that Dwight also. It would not be as bad if our recruitment was smart and savvy, but can any claret have any confidence in our recruitment personnel. We are an established PL side but when did we collectively feel we had a WOW signing-maybe Joey or Andre Gray ??.

Look at Sheffield Utd, Palace, Brighton, and a few others, already making good purchases(Brighton could even afford to let Duffy go on loan-we may be down to Kevin Long)Was it really only 3 months ago we had a subs bench with barely no playing experience. We now hear that we may get a couple of replacements but towards the end of the shutdown. You would have thought we would be amongst the first out of the blocks It wont be long before some of our key players like Wood,Taylor,Pope get so hacked off their agents start looking for better opportunities .The players are out there-one example Palace securing Gary Cahill last year .I would be absolutely fascinated to be a fly on the wall of our recruitment team right now

I'm also not going to sit here and suggest the lad is worth the £35 million because no one knows.

Is he ignoring the amount of money they've raked in during the last few seasons?

It's about £300 million since that title win just on player sales.

I'd say it's harsh to say they "hit it long to Vardy", at least if you're imagining they launch it and hope for the best. They'll miss him sure, but they have a lot of good players at a younger age. Where they do need some younger blood is at the back, but they've some established first team players who are young

23 or Under:
Harvey Barnes
Tielemans
Choudhury
Ndidi
Maddison
Iheanacho

Some people seem to have very active imaginations.

As I understand it, Tarks has said he wants to play as high as possible. West Ham are desperate for a Bobby Moore type to build on. Burnley have rejected their approaches and a load of journalists have nothing better to speculate on. As far as I know it’s business as usual from our end....

Have I missed any actual news?

For the record btw. I do know who he is but he's hardly this wunderkind superstar you're referring to. No I don't pay attention to other leagues or other nations like you SUPERFAN. What I do know is that he isn't all that clearly! So no I class him in my vaguely category of players who come into the 'Who, what, where, really HOW MUCH HAHAHAHAHA' Category!
He won the golden boy award at 18/19 years old, playing upfront for Portugal and Atletico Madrid, he’s arguably the best u21 player in the world. He’s definitely a wonder kid superstar.

No but you would hope Wolves have paid that fee with good knowledge he’s got the potential to turn out that good. You say 180 mins of first team football but I’m pretty sure they didn’t sign him only off that 180 minutes.

A few outlets suggesting it’s just a matter of price between clubs with Tarks to West Ham.
Is the perceived wisdom that his move north to be closer to family is a no longer an issue.
West Ham appear quite directionless at the minute. Not sure playing well for them would improve his England chances. You’d think we might offer him one more year on improved terms with a clear agreement that we’d sanction a move at the end of the season.
Why would he do that? Burnley have sanctioned a move, West Ham just need to pay up. Tarks won’t want to waste another year here (waste as in career length wise, rather than degraded us)

I don't think Wolves would have paid out that sort of money
on someone who they didn't think had huge potential.
He's been touted as the next Ronaldo and is, I believe, on a 5 year contract
- so plenty of time to develop.

I also have to agree that McNeil won't get into the top 1%.
He would need an exceptional next season to get even close.

Hopefully Tarks will stay but even if he does then
we'll be starting the season with 5 players down and 2 or 3 still injured.
And praying we don't get any or many more injuries and if we do
then one or two of the youngsters who may have to drafted in can
do the business.
And hoping Dyche and those left still have the belief and do their upmost
to get off to a reasonable start.

That's pretty worrying to say the least.

We've performed close to miracles over the last few years
and may well have to again this coming season even thought we're close to being
an established team in the top division and not one of the favourites to go down
- as far as I know.

If there was any interest in Tarks from Leicester it looks like they're not prepared to go over £27 million. They've put a bid in for St Etienne's Wesley Fofana for £26 million according to Sky Sports. That was the one of the two clubs interested who have any chance of Champions League football in 2021/22.

Maybe not, but we still have well over a week to bring people in, and if we don't, our starting eleven could still be pretty strong.

We can't start the season with a strong first 11 and a non existent bench.

We will inevitably lose players to injury and suspension, which is more likely given Dyche hardly rotated our team post lockdown when other teams were doing.

We need players and everyone knows it.

Little chance of Tarkowski going in this window unless we make some quick moves on the incoming front, which I seriously doubt.

With Ben Mee injured and little back up bar Long, it would be suicidal to sell Tarkowski for any amount of money

I'm still not convinced anything beyond lazy journalism and West Ham trying to appease the fans is afoot here. Is a new centre back really their number one priority after the terrible season they had again?

Not mentioned in the link above but Moyes also said he is unsure if WHU will come back again.
Tarks captaining this afternoon is another plus for me. He’s staying.

Not sure we can draw those conclusions from these comments.

I do dislike Moyes discussing buds so openly. I think clubs should remain quiet about other players until a bid is accepted, or they end their interest.

Sounds to me like they’ll go back in but have a limit well below £50m. May be WHU’s way of cutting the price and telling us not to be greedy during Covid, which may shake our Board in to accepting a lower bid. I really hope we stick to our guns & hold out for £50m even if it means losing him for less next summer.

I think the more positive news is that Leicester are looking elsewhere. That was the more likely destination for me.

But I still wouldn’t be surprised to see United come in for him, potentially with cash + players they want to offload. In my opinion, Tarks is > Maguire and Lindelof, but if not them, definitely Jones, Rojo and Bailly as cover. They play a lot of games so he’d get time. Could see that happening.

Bit worrying. Bet SD won’t get asked about that.

I'm well excited now. We have new investors coming in and we are selling our two best players. Must be because they know there won't be a place for them when we spend £2.5b improving the squad over the next couple of weeks.

If Tarkowski did move to West ham it would be purely for financial reasons and nothing else.

West Ham are not a club with a history of any type of success in the top league, they are and always have been btm half premier league and top 6 championship.

Who would of thought a club like burnley can afford to be turning down 30 million pounds for one of there players . Its a bit crazy if you think about it

Speaking as a Burnley fan, if I played for us and West Ham came in for me offering to double my wages you wouldn't see me for dust.
