He's just showing his beer mat collections that's all.
He also has a thimble collection he started when he visited Colwyn Bay as a child.

Yep. I’ve seen it. Sent to me via WhatsApp. Not a fan I’ll be honest, but some parts of it? Well, he has a point.
No doubt he fits a certain category tho... mysoginistic racist dinosaur I’ll guess at. Sure a snowflake will be along soon to confirm...

It’s telling that his only media output is via YouTube these days, and his viewing figures are not as high as I would have thought, which is a good thing.

Re: Jim Davidson
Certainly triggered something in me.. sympathy.
An old guy, sitting in his shed dressed in his best suit, knowing the world has moved on and any ‘glory’ is long in the past. But still he ploughs on, the same pub standard banter, the low level bitterness pervading it all.
As if millions are still watching on prime time TV. So yeah, it’s actually pretty sad to see. I didn’t make it through the whole thing but his line ‘if you can **** you can dance’ epitomised the tragic, embittered world a once popular showman now lives in. Hates that someone is good at something he can’t do, hates that someone is in the limelight he once enjoyed and hates mostly that someone is different to him.
Thinking about it, maybe I am triggered but only into hoping he’s ok. He seems really miserable.

Haven't watched it, but he was funny in his day, when the world was a different place.

Re: Jim Davidson
Sounds like your usual bigot in the pub. Blames young people (millennials) for everything, doesn’t see the bigger picture and get angry at things that don’t have any affect on him.
I watched a stand-up of his on YouTube, there’s no jokes... or if there are jokes, there’s no content to them... just him ranting about everything not Jim Davidson yet all the gammon are wetting themselves when he pulls a face between sentences.
But he’s entitled to his views, I’m sure he’ll make a bob-or-two spouting whatever is pinging around in his head. I can make it go away by clicking the back button though.
I feel a bit sorry for him to be honest. I’m sure he’s happy, but I hope I don’t grow up to be like that.

Re: Jim Davidson
Regardless of the vague validity of any of his points, his delivery will only be interpreted as a angry bitter old man, albeit that is his 'act' - akin to Roy Chubby Brown, Les Dawson or Bernard Manning.
Wont take long before someone labels him gammon, mind.
EDIT - I see CTU already has. Serves me right for getting distracted midway through posting this.

Sorry but Les Dawson does not belong on a list with Davidson, Brown or Manning.

Re: Jim Davidson
If Davidson's reduced to performing an "act" such as this, he's about at rock-bottom.
It's a shame, he fitted in quite well in an earlier, more ignorant era.

Technically, I didn’t label him as Gammon, just the people watching his show.Darthlaw wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 8:27 amRegardless of the vague validity of any of his points, his delivery will only be interpreted as a angry bitter old man, albeit that is his 'act' - akin to Roy Chubby Brown, Les Dawson or Bernard Manning.

... That said, I’ve actually been to see him live myself in Blackburn King George’s Hall in the early 2000’s - it was like a BNP rally, he didn’t perform any racist material on that occasion which surprised me because that’s what some of his audience wanted - with people randomly shouting ‘Pakis’ during the set.
Those types of comedians are not my thing, I just don’t find it funny - but I believe they have the right to ply there trade and it was disappointing when I read that a Civic Theatre cancelled Chubby Brown a few years ago because of criticism of his act. I don’t think that’s fair.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy tickets.

Is it not the grumpy ranting man 'act' he's always done? It's like whinging about Jack Dee for appearing dour.

You’d think so... I’d like to see what he’s really like away from his comic persona. Get an insight from those who were close to him... such as his his ex wife - who describes him as a violent, unpredictable and dangerous man.

Was never a great fan other than his Rainbow impressions which have always been good. Was expecting to see someone past his time but he has a point.

I don’t like ‘comedians’ who feel they have to use the F word all the time. It doesn’t make it more funny.

Depends how it’s used. And I agree, if you’re using it all the time how can land an impact in a punchline when you need to use the f word ?

Interesting because the numbers are so low? Or, interesting that people who watched a very low profile and non-mainstream broadcast shared the views of the broadcaster. It's not something you stumble across. I couldn't find it less interesting tbh.

Some people laugh at things they find funny, some people don't laugh if they don't think it's funny, others may find things funny but don't laugh in case it offends others.

Doesn’t your anecdote about JD in Blackburn not explain why some theatres don’t want acts like that performing there?claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 8:51 amTechnically, I didn’t label him as Gammon, just the people watching his show.

I didn't get much from it other than he thinks black lives don't matter because some black people commit violent crimes. Oh and of course young people are stupid so that's why they support BLM.
It was pretty sad to see.

Quite a good stand up in his day and a family tv mainstay for donkeys years . Made and lost a few fortunes too . pretty sure he can still pull in good crowds ( in normal times) if that’s your thing . Not really someone you’d want using your bog though .

Quite possibly - he's the only comedian of that type I've seen live though.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 10:30 amDoesn’t your anecdote about JD in Blackburn not explain why some theatres don’t want acts like that performing there?
My friend bought tickets to see Roy Chubby Brown in Oswaldtwistle with the rose-tinted specs of watching his old VHS tapes as a young teenager. We'd share the video around the class of Chubs performing stage saying words like 'minge' and 'fanny' - which as schoolboys we used to find hilarious.
When he went to the show though, he said it was like EDL Central with fifty-year-old men jumping up and down in their seats when he made some 'jokes' about the migrant crisis. He expected the jokes to have a sense of irony or subversive meaning - but no... Immigrants are thieves, Asians stink of curry and women are fat... as simple as that. Well funny...

JD is booked to appear at the Burnley Mechanics November 2021 as part of a 30 date tour - so must be a fan club somewhere !!

I like Jim Davidson to be honest he's a proper old school comic with very similar views on today's snowflakes causing a racial divide.

Re: Jim Davidson
10 years ago when I was at Uni, me and my mate used to find it funny to get stoned and watch Roy Chubby Brown DVDs. Sounds kind of douchey to watch something ironically and laugh at it rather than with it but it was hilarious to us none the less.
It was interesting when we watched the "extras" on one DVD that Brown seemed to genuinely loathe his audience, and at one point worked himself into a rage whilst backstage about the mindless interruptions he had to deal with throughout the set. It sort of made me question whether he actually believes the distasteful stuff he says, or if he just does it because he knows there's good money in pedalling it to the people who buy the tickets.

Largely saying what most people think. Never liked him for going "nick, nick" all the time. Southern git but speaking the truth.
