Good window if....
We keep Tarky and sign Dawson, Stephens, Osayi-Samuel and Quaison. Would that be a good window?

It'd be a hell of a sight better than our current state.

Unlikely we're signing two of those four. It'd be a good window if we can keep Tarks and bring in Stephens, a midfielder, a right-winger and a centre half.

It would be a good window, but it's not going to happen. I think signing Stephens and keeping Tarky is the best we can hope for.

More chance of Mike Garlick riding Zlatan Ibrahimovic into the Royal Dyche holding a boom box playing 'Big Spender' by Shirley Bassey on full volume.

Keep Tarky, sign Stephens, sign a right winger, this is the absolute minimum requirement.

Re: Good window if....
We need two signings currently, in my opinion (pre-Tarky leaving) - a central midfielder and a winger. I would have said a centre back to replace Gibson, but I am content with Tarky, Mee, Long and Dunne currently (if Tarky leaves, we need a new number one centre back to play with Mee).
Stephens is one of the two, we now need to spend big (for us) on a right winger to walk straight into the team.

Re: Good window if....
Stephens as in the Brighton player?
Re: Good window if....
My real concern is that we must have known most of the OOC players would be leaving with maybe the exception of Jeff. Gibson we must have known was not going to feature again after January. I cannot for the life of me understand how realistic targets have not been identified in this time period. Instead we are back in for Dawson and Stephens (the new Lansbury and Driver).
If we don't get 3 new signings in and that's without Tarks leaving this window has been another garbage stop gap, creating an even bigger problem for next year.
We needed a minimum of 2-3 with just OOC's and Gibson to replace, never mind 3-4 injuries on top of that. We are beginning to look in real trouble as it's too much of a rebuilding job to do at once. If we manage to survive this season then the job needed in the next transfer window is make or break- Do you think we have learned anything from previous transfer windows? Is investment the only way to save us? Should we eat at the reserves?
I'm all for eating away HALF of the reserves and buying young talent with sell on values. The club still has the assets instead of the monitery value, it's more risk but it's not like your chucking 40m away, some will go for less others more.
Knowing we have reserves of upwards of 40m then why not put 20m into two young players. It's not like we loose 20m. We then have two players we could sell for 20m or more or equally less. It's about time we took some calculated risks and signing quality youth is the right option for us. We have, in Dyche, a man who looks to get the best out of players, he is a real leader and a top manager, let's back him.

Just keeping Tarky and getting the rest fit would be enough for me with maybe a RB if one position needed

We can’t afford to sign all those players. Keeping Tarks and everyone else would be a good window, getting Stephens in as well would be a great window.

Re: Good window if....
Keep Tarks, buy Dawson who can play RB too, and Stephens giving Cork some competition. Means Brownhill can go right side and in two months JBG should be back. Thats the absolute minimum

The very same...

Re: Good window if....
I think losing Mee and Tarks probably cost us a Point yesterday. We certainly wouldn’t have conceded 4. Not criticizing the center backs who played but it takes a long time to form a back four as good as we have when all are fit. I don’t believe Tarks was injured but either way it is a shambles to go into the first game as unprepared as we were.

Re: Good window if....
Keep Tarks + sign Stephens, is currently a decent window for me, purely because I've been expecting a lot worse.
Re: Good window if....
Getting and keeping Barnes fit would be a big plus. I think JGB and maybe Brady are sadly coming to the end of their pl careers

People complain already about the average age of the squad.

Why is the 33 games relevant in the context of your moan?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:04 pm31 yrs old and made 33 league appearances for Brighton last season.

Re: Good window if....
The very best that could have happened yesterday would have been that we played with either two new centre halves making their debut, or Long plus one new centre half making his debut. Any of the scenarios including the one which happened are a big drop off from Mee and Tarkowski, of course. But the bit within the club's control is limited to saying that it should have been a different debutant alongside Long. And that IMO isn't a serious enough complaint to call it a shambles.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 4:35 pmI think losing Mee and Tarks probably cost us a Point yesterday. Re: Good window if....
If he'd made a small number of appearances, being able to buy him would seem more likely as he'd be a fringe player.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:13 pmWhy is the 33 games relevant in the context of your moan?
A higher number of games would suggest he's rated by the manager, who'll probably want to keep him or would demand a decent fee for him.
He's got a year left on his contact I think, so they'll either be negotiating now to extend or hawking him around to recoup some money.

Re: Good window if....
Don’t think it’s a case of hawking around, as much as player wants to leave for first team football and they’re happy to let him go as he’s been a decent servant.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:56 pmIf he'd made a small number of appearances, being able to buy him would seem more likely as he'd be a fringe player.

Similar to when Dave Jones left us.
Re: Good window if....
Not selling anyone. Signing and Stephens and Osayi-Samuel is the best we can hope for and if we can get our injured players fit again then that should be enough to see us stay up comfortably.

Article from the brighton perspective mulling over whether to keep him or let him go, apologises if already posted elsewhere.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:56 pmIf he'd made a small number of appearances, being able to buy him would seem more likely as he'd be a fringe player.
