tonight's footy 21/9/20

Post by tiger76 » Mon Sep 21, 2020 6:25 pm

Blades down to 10 men early on, straight red for Egan, they aren't starting the season well, could they become a victim of 2nd season syndrome?

All I saw was a keeper who looked like he was on a mission to save it, and the Sheffield United player with a short run up. No surprises with that one.

0-0 wouldn't be bad, but don't want Villa winning.

Villa very reliant on Grealish. Without him they'd be knackered.

Villa have been poor against the 10 men, 1 shot on target, and they could even had trailed at HT. Draw would be a decent outcome for us, even this early in the season.

It was a red card for me, not sure why Carragher and Richards were upset about it - probably coming at it from a defender’s perspective. But why should a player who’s used his clever movement and pace to get through on goal be denied by a defender grappling with him from behind?

I hope we are taking note of how Sheff Utd are dealing with Grealish.

it's a difficult one, Watkins has his arm across the front of the defender, the defender has every right to try and haul his arm away from in front of him. For me (granted, I've only seen 1 replay of it so I could be wrong) it looked like the first offence was by Watkins - I must be wrong though because the refs and VAR never get anything wrong

I’d have to watch again to see if Watkins fouls Egan first. But Egan doesn’t have the right to haul Watkins’ arm away, I don’t think there’s a law that allows for that. Funnily enough the pundits were blaming the ref for actually making a decision - which is the opposite of what they’re usually being blamed for.

well if Watkins arm is in front of the defender and the ball isn't at his feet then that should be deemed as obstruction (it never usually gets given though), I just thought it was harsh........and yes to the pundits, it's very rare I listen to any of them nowadays

Penalty save looking vital now. Villa should see this one out. 2 defeats out of 2 for Sheff Utd, and 0 goals scored, unless they can rescue something late on.

just seen the red again, ball gets launched, Watkins puts his arm across the defender, ball is a good 8 yards away so he isn't protecting the ball, obstruction for me as he commits the first foul

Anyone seen the players on City's bench tonight?

Mainly young lads, because the squad is so stretched with injuries.

Can't believe the chairman allowed it to get to such a state, time he left for the good of the club.

That's how it works isn't it?

Nice dive by Sterling, took him a while to realise that it was in vain due to VAR.

He's not an identical twin is he ? We could sign him for £15,000 and then sell him on for £25,000,000, after switching identities .... when he concedes four in half an hour for his new Club, we just claim that our defenders made him look better than he was !!

City's typical 'soft' penalty award, well tucked away by KDB mind, even it was a questionable decision.

City ripping Wolves a new one at the moment. Outstanding play for the second goal.

City totally outplaying Wolves who totally outplayed Sheff Utd the other day. The gap between the top 2 and everybody else is just getting wider.

It’s the classic see the player slide and run into leg, but that’s a penalty. Simple solution is not to go to ground in the box. Sterling tried the same thing about 5 mins in but failed to get the contact, Wolves should have taken a lesson from that.

I have to admire City's style of play of pass and move into space. The second goal was fabulous football: they make it look so easy and you would think it could be coached into any team, even ours if they tried. However, they are special players who have excellent technique and vision.

This could get messy for Wolves 2nd half, they'll have to push forward, but City are masters on the break.

And it's even more amazing to think at another level what Bayern would do to this Man City team.

1-0 up with 15 to go and he wins a free kick. Has to take his gloves off to tie his bootlaces. Takes ages. Clearly a trait that runs in the family

I've watched a bit of it ... looks a good keeper at that level, out sharply for a couple of through balls and commands the area ...

Edit: As I was typing, # United equalise with a great strike that gave him no chance, could go to penalties !

Wolves are battering City 2nd half, but they can't find the target. That City defence isn't looking quite as comfortable now they're under pressure.

So, that's 18 games played now in the Premier League and every game has produced a winner.

Has that kind of start ever happened before?....Even in the days of the old Division One?

One for CT, perhaps.
