Fosun took over Wolves in 2016 and stated they wanted to be in the champions league within 5 years I think it was.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 5:50 pmhow would a company such as ALK expect to see a return for their investors over a specific timeframe ?
An outstanding season this time round, plus other things going their way, could see them achieving that goal.
They knew they'd have to put some money into the club, but had long term goals put in place and it seems like its working.
Re: ALK Capital...
Bear in mind DCWat. I was told about this a week ago. I actually was misinformed on the announcement date or I misread it as I was watching us play Sheff Utd. I knew there was a big announcement coming and today when the Wilson news broke. I thought. Finally! You know how it goes. Totally understandable btw. 'What does he know?' 'Bullsh*tter' etc.
Anyway. I expected it personally this Friday. Knowing Burnley FC if they had their way it'd be with a video of Garlick in a loin cloth as a Roman Emperor surrendering his crown.

I do prefer your perspective, and it does make sense.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 6:54 pmColburn - my immediate reaction to what you have said - not judging just a different perspective
- most clubs who have got into some kind of financial mess are owned by An individual with mega bucks to spare
- an investment company, that you presume wants to make money, is likely to be much more disciplined (especially when it has associated technology interests that could suffer negatively from a club being run poorly
- Newcastle bid was about the wider investment, if failed because there was no separation between state and club in the proposed ownership structure, that required the state to make guarantees to make obligations it was not prepared too.
- there is an awful lot of logic to the bid as we currently understand it, both from vertical integration and what is happening in the area re the power change in local and central government
And yes I would rather we stay independent but that is becoming virtually impossible - if things get as bad as they could within the game we could be down to a closed shop of just 2 leagues
I think the individuals who made a mess of clubs, are the individuals who claimed to have billions, but really didn't have a pot to **** in.

If we get loads of investment from non-Burnley fans how high do you think we can finish. 6th ?
Be careful what you wish for.

Re: ALK Capital...
Should all this takeover talk become a reality I wonder if they would be happy to keep the club's name or look for something more saleable to the Asian and USA markets. The name of Burnley without some kind of addition is hardly likely to stir the imagination. It just about destroyed Hull City when the new owners wanted to change the official name of the Club to Hull Tigers so as to appeal to a new Asian audience / fans.
Re: ALK Capital...
I found it strange too. It does tally with what I'd heard a week ago though. Investing and owning are two different things and maybe to fit the criteria they had to register as a business here. That is just an assumption but it would tally with dates.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 8:19 pmI find it a little strange - given it's recent investments in UK based businesses

I would suggest they set up the name ALK for specific investments, nothing to suggest they have been in existence previous to 2020. No idea if that should be a concern or not, I'm guessing Garlic will do what's best though

Re: ALK Capital...
Americans are big in to that though. Very much part of sporting culture in the US. A good example would be Derby who were bought out by Americans (GSE) in 2008. They did fabulous things with community engagement and Derby is still seen as a trailblazer as far as their community scheme is concerned.Spiral wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 5:13 pmPeople can't truly believe in their community 'aspirations', can they? I mean, come on. Don't roll over for money making f.uckers so easily. Have a bit more self respect than that. Receive their money if you will, but don't be so gullible as to believe they actually give a pi$$ about the place. Council meetings? Ha! Box ticking exercise.
The story of GSE and Derby is worth researching. They look to be a similar type consortium and ALK. They were by no means a disaster for Derby but they failed in their states aim of establishing the club in the top flight. Aston Villa and Sunderland has negative experiences with US owners.

Aston Villa's American owner was also big on the work in the community - went as far as having a local charity on the shirt rather than a paid for sponsor if I remember he just got tired of spending big each year only to be outspent again by the big six and just missing out on the Champion's leagueCubanclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 9:11 pm

Re: ALK Capital...
The sensible side of me doesn’t like this
We are doing, steady, an established prem club (as much as that is possible), no debt, simple football.
My life is sensible. I have a sensible job, a fixed mortgage, I save and don’t make investments, I don’t like risk.
However, Burnley is my hobby, my vice. I want Burnley to be interesting, unpredictable, risk taking.
Let’s face it Burnley FC is boring and has been for a few years. I love the ups and downs we used to have. The terrible trips to Southend. It’s rubbish like that that makes you appreciate the highs.
I hope this comes off. I hope we gamble. Look at Portsmouth. Took a gamble and won an FA cup, played AC Milan at Portman rd. it then went t*ts up and they are back to the start rebuilding. I bet if you ask a Portsmouth fan if they would give up the highs they had for premier league stability without much excitement I bet they wouldn’t change anything.
Let’s get it done and go for it in the cups. Let’s go for Europe. Let’s have some fun before it inevitably goes horribly wrong and we are back to the bottom, building again. Starting the journey again

Generally you wouldn't see a level of wealth as they'll bring together different investors for different deals and those investors may be looking at different levels of exposure.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 8:19 pmI find it a little strange - given it's recent investments in UK based businesses
Alk may facilitate it but normally a vehicle would be set up for that deal (or Alk may be the vehicle).

I get all that - and I have often thought if any type of PE was going to take us over it would be a family - they tend to be the ones that have the longer term and integrated perspective that I am seeing here - I am assuming they have already done the Owners and Directors test - so the Premier League will know who it is and given it the nod (if it really is happening)aggi wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 9:30 pmGenerally you wouldn't see a level of wealth as they'll bring together different investors for different deals and those investors may be looking at different levels of exposure.

Re: ALK Capital...
I'm really not sure what these chancers could bring us that we don't already have. They are never in a million years going to get us into the top 6 as that requires stratospheric investment on the lines of Mr Mansoor or Mr Abramovich and that definitely ain't going to happen. And one reason that ain't ever going to happen is because by definition, unlike those 2 chaps, these people are looking to "invest" money, not fritter hundreds of millions away on an expensive hobby which brings absolutely no monetary return. We've already shown that with our shrewd (local) owners and our amazing manager and backroom staff we can get a top 10 finish in the best division in Europe by doing exactly what we're doing and selling out to this lot (or anyone similar) is simply fixing something the isn't broken, but pretty soon could be if we sell out! Once they realise that finishing above 7th really is an unattainable dream they'll cut and run and we'll be left picking up the pieces. (Maybe)
