Dean Jones (Aussie cricketer) dies
I read just yesterday that he'd got into an argument on social media re complaints about his commentating at the IPL. Today, he's passed away after a heart attack at the age of 59.
I'm sure he played in the Lancashire League at some time.

Re: Dean Jones (Aussie cricketer) dies
I've just found a scorecard for a Lancashire League game between Rishton & Church. I think Jones might have been sub pro but I certainly noticed the Rishton number 11.

Shocking news RIP Dean.
He was primarily known as a ODI player, but he boasted a test average of nearly 47, so he clearly could adapt to all forms of the game.

Re: Dean Jones (Aussie cricketer) dies
I remember that game very well and Jones was one of many sub pros that Rishton employed that season when Azharuddin went home injured.
He was a typical young Aussie and very enthusiastic in the field.
When he was out he walked back in the dressing room and said "ok lads if that's the best I can do against that s***e bowling I will put my match fee behind the bar after the game". And true to his word he did.
I notice that he was bowled by an Accy Clarets regular too.
RIP far too young to be taken from us.

" tybfc " , I notice that Colin Kuhn was in that Rishton XI that day ... He was much older than me, but I played a good few games at Blackburn Rugby Club with him, I believe he was a driver on " Blackburn Transport " ....tybfc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 9:53 pmI remember that game very well and Jones was one of many sub pros that Rishton employed that season when Azharuddin went home injured.

He was from Zimbabwe ( Rhodesia, back in the day ), and I remember a classic wind-up ( c. 1980 ), when the Blackburn Club Secretary presented him with fake " Call-up papers ", allegedly from the Embassy ... he wasn't happy !!
