Just seen this. Terrible.

Seen lots of comments online saying why wasn’t he searched. He would’ve been prior to arrival at custody.

We don’t know the circumstances of his arrest, what he was arrested for, and whether a strip search was authorised by the custody sergeant. It may well be that a strip search was authorised and the suspect, once handcuffs were removed, has then drawn his weapon.

Best to wait until the facts emerge.

RIP.

Horrible news.
Like Tsar has said better to wait for the news and show some respect before allowing this thread to go the way of so many others this year.

RIP and thoughts with his family, friends and colleagues.

With all due respect we know pretty much what there is to know already without going into the miniature details as it's all over the news, I'll definitely echo the sentiments, RIP & thoughts to everybody concerned with the fatality.

Echo the sentiments above. RIP. A guy just doing his job. However, it’s just been on the news, the guy who was arrested was still in cuffs when he drew the weapon. WTF??

Terribly sad news. A Kiwi who has served the people of London in the Met for 29 years and coached a local rugby team. Appears to have been a pillar of the community, which somehow makes it worse. RIP.

RIP to the desk Sgt who has so sadly and needlessly lost his life. I won't speculate on the circumstances of his death, but will only offer my most heartfelt and deepest condolences to this man, his family, his friends and colleagues. May he rest in piece, the thin blue line just got a little thinner 💙

This man appears to have been an exceptional human being, which makes his slaying even worse.

Can’t imagine what his loved ones and colleagues are going thru.

What is good to see tho is how this thread hasn’t been hijacked. I didn’t hold out much hope when it was started but I’m glad it’s become nothing more than a thread showing compassion and respect. Maybe we ARE learning after all...

RIP fella...

This is utterly shocking.

Can't see there being any complaints about stop and arrest here. In fact I would advocate the ulitmate punishment for murdering a police officer.

Thousands are, but they can't all be monitored 24 hours a day.

The circumstances here appear rather unusual and it's not clear at the moment whether the suspect was arrested somewhere outside the station or made his own way there. Best to wait for the enquiry instead of speculating.

He was detained & transported in the police vehicle to the station. The facts are there people just need to read the information.

Fine, I'm a little out of date then. That suggests that the people who 'Transported' him will be feeling a tad guilty today as they clearly didn't search him properly. I'm sure the enquiry will find out what happened.

Quite incredible that they appear to have found ammunition on him but didn't find the gun though.

It’s possible that he was checked thoroughly & the gun was found in the van unlikely but it’s a possibility the van wasn’t searched after last being used prior to detaining the suspect. Like you say the enquiry will find this out.

He didn't say he was arrested for terrorism only that he was known to anti-terrorism, which he is.

He was actually arrested for being in possession of a class A drug with the intent to supply if you want to be that picky..

Class B not A

Go have a lie down, you've managed to turn a statement of fact into some sort of crusade for some unknown reason. I'm not interested in arguing over a fact.

White Police officer shot dead in Britain by black gun man. Brace yourself for the protests, demonstrations, marches, celebrities jumping on the bandwagon, professional footballers making a stand before each game. Police lives matter.

Surely that's what is going to happen isn't it?

It pretty universally accepted that criminals (especially murderers) are the bad guys and wrong uns but when the people who are paid and entrusted to protects us abuse that trust and act criminally towards us then this is a real cause for concern (especially if large parts of society ignore and even defend this behaviour)

I could understand a schoolkid not getting the difference but it isnt that subtle or nuanced that it should need explaining to an adult but there you go

I have never carried a gun/ knife, dealt drugs nor lived off immoral earnings and strangely enough the police have never acted criminally towards me.

Even a schoolchild can possibly understand why.

Im not defending the criminals, Im explaining why the way society reacts to criminals being criminals is different to police acting criminally or even against their code of ethics

Also just because something hasnt happened to you doesnt mean it hasnt happened to anyone else. I never had any trouble off the police in Athens so dows that mean the coachload who got taken to the cells were themselves to blame?

I'll explain it for you seen as you are struggling and jumping to wrong conclusions.

Poster implied some hypocrisy that when a white policeman killed a black person there was mass protests yet when a black criminal killed a white policeman there is silence

I was explaining (what I thought was a pretty simple point) that there is a difference between criminals unlawfully killing and police unlawfully killing

Who are we meant to protest against for criminals killing people? Are we to have a mass protest against criminals being criminals? Please tell me what who we should protest against cos I think (or i thought) society was all on the same page that we have police and a criminal justice system set up to prevent, catch up and lock away criminals?

I think we should have a BLM protest due to the number of black males being killed by other black males.

The protests in the UK were about the disproportionate treatment of black people in the UK by the police rather than the unlawful killing that is seen in the US.

Whether their is racism in the UK police is another argument altogether as all I was highlighting is why society is more like to protest against the perceived wrongful actions of the police than they are against the actions of criminals.

Again I cant believe an adult cannot understand the difference between protests against police actions and reactions to crimes by criminals

Nice one, who are we going to protest against and what are we going to demand?
