The lack of fight and interest was staggering. What happened to maximum effort being the minimum requirement?

What changes could Dyche make with what is available - Peiters on for Brownhill or McNeill

You reckon Garlick enjoyed that?
What a flat, boring, waste of 90 minutes..
Southampton were awful and made us look even worse
The tarkowski situation needs sorting out sharpish and reinvesting in the team

Never minds fellow supporters, we have injuries to key players and there is nothing you can do about that. You know what, maybe the powers that be could introduce two points in the season where you could buy players to add to your squad to solve such issues ...... oh wait a minute !!

Plenty of effort imo, but an obvious lack of the quality required at this level. Looks like a long hard winter. Lockdown and being shut out of The turf was definitely a bonus tonight!

Look forward to a statement from the Chairman
I'm really surprised he actually puts himself out there at the games when he knows he is getting the rightful full blame

Mc Neill did not want to play tonight. Head down. Totally disinterested.
Look at Charlie or Josh. Looking for the ball. Me Neill was hiding tonight. And not for first time.

Dyche has pulled enough rabbits out of the hat of late for me to reserve judgement on the whole season outlook. But that was not good. Could play for another five hours and we wouldn’t look like scoring

It was pretty dire to watch, but we'll be ok when we get some of our players back. Tarks, Mee, Jay, JBG, Cork - even if we had spent money we'd be struggling a bit. There were times last season before Christmas even with a full side, where we looked hopeless. We must've learned by now not to count us out this early

We don't generally lose to the teams around us at home. We have an incredibly good home record against non big 6 teams. To lose to one of them like that is a major worry.

Just to say we have started seasons like this before.
All this talk of relegation. Lets wait and see how Dyche gets this team to respond to tonights display, it wasn't great tonight but alli is not lost after just one game.

Have to say, Stephens looked very limited. Always backwards or sideways. Hope he’s planned to be back up if we ever sign a right winger on that showing!

Tomorrow we'll have the analysis.
Monday we'll console that we've looked worse and still turned it around.

Pains me to say it, but with Tarkowski in the team we may very well have won both of the first 2 games.
That said, if he wants out then he should go, just hurry the f#ck up and don’t break your toe on the door on the way out

Re: BURNLEY. V. SAINTS
Dwight can’t carry us every game , our lack of attacking options is hardly his fault. He had a bad game tonight but he needs help, none of Vydra or Wood dropped into the hole to take a pass from him all gsme, which leads to him being surrounded by 3 players or him having to hoist it into the box - where by the way vestergaard won pretty much everything . For me we needed to move Dwight more central But with the options we had it was hardly possible .
I would however have taken off Stephens moved Brownhill central and put Pieters on for a bit more energy . That was a performance lacking in ideas - best player by far was Charlie Taylor.
Some good news in the transfer window desperately needed

Re: BURNLEY. V. SAINTS
3 shots on target between the 2 teams, that sums up how poor that game was, what's frustrating is Southampton were average, and yet we never really troubled them when they went ahead.
That said if the "offside" goal had have stood we could have taken a point, and a draw wouldn't have been unfair on either team.
We desperately need to get our regulars back, add Mee, Cork and Jay to this side, and those 3 alone will markedly improve us.
What's worrying is Dwight is badly out of form, and without him we lack a cutting edge, and what is the point of putting the likes of Benson on the bench, if he's never going to get on.
Trying to find some positives out of that, well we only conceded the 1 goal, and Dunne & Long grew into the match as time went on.
Charlie Taylor offered us an outlet, and Vydra looked lively.
Stephens didn't pull up any trees, but it's only his first game, so hopefully once he fully settles in he'll show his ability.

Re: BURNLEY. V. SAINTS
I watched the game and in the Underground bar in Benalmadena with about 15 clarets. I hate to sound like a broken record but our midfield has no creativity at all. If we don't get a cross in from the left wing from MacNeil or Taylor we do nothing. Also the ref was awful. Going to carry on with the lads over here for a few beers. Too much hopeful long balls knocked aimlessly forward from us as usual, can't fault Dyche for no subs, we had a poor bench.

Positives were that after their goal Dunne and Long did well and we dominated without showing any quality. Pope hardly had a save to make. We were possibly slightly unlucky with the pen/offside decisions, although both were correct. We have a lot of injuries and will be fine when (if) we get them back together.
On the negatives, Stephens did nothing wrong but also nothing right. Dwight was shocking. We need a new RB and a RW which we have known for YEARS and Garlick has done **** all about. After today I think we need a LW to give Dwight a break.

McNeill and Taylor did what was asked and lumped it into the box on a regular basis.
The outstanding thing today was the absolute lack of quality.

Re: BURNLEY. V. SAINTS
Throwing more money at a problem to find a solution doesn't always work. Hard work and talent are what is needed to make a difference. Relying upon the idea of spending more money to increase options is a lazy and unproductive route to a successful outcome.
We didn't need to spend a fortune in this window to effect change. It seems like we put together a target list of obvious high ticket players ( who were probably unlikely to be sold or come to us ) in the hope that their price would drop down to our financial level. Take away the financial price drop hope and It wasn't far off what we did last year, with equally poor results.
Had this window not seen the movement of a lot of players, for cheap prices, who could have done a job for us, then I would be pointing the finger of blame a Garlick.
However, we either weren't interested in all those players, we weren't aware of them or we stuck to our target list and we were to slow to re-act and change tact when the pattern of the market revealed itself.
We could have strengthened the team in any number of ways for very little money in this window, so not throwing all caution to the wind and spending everything we have ( putting the club at risk ) isn't the problem. The problem is that our recruitment team failed to find good value in a window that was filled with good value options.
Spending club record fees on single players who don't suit the way we play in the next few days won't change that. Our transfer strategy has been a stumbling joke in this window. The Chairman's reluctance not to bet the house on signings and the Gaffers desire for players that can make a difference now or in the future isn't the vehicle for our spluttering start to the season.
Lots of good players at good prices were available in this window, so spending big isn't the primary factor in terms of not getting the required signings done early to replenish the ranks. Our recruitment strategy sucked, our knowledge of the market ( along with perceptive judgements about player availability ) sucked and our target list seems to have be woefully misjudged.
Instead of navigating the shifting sands of the market we stood around and set course for a very dangerous patch of quicksand.

Wonder how many other teams starting their 1st home game in their 5th consecutive season in the EPL have done so with 5 of their 7 subs never having started (or appeared) in an EPL game before?
