Ashley Barnes

Post by Pearcey » Sat Sep 26, 2020 11:06 pm

Could he have played 20 minutes tonight instead of 90 yesterday? Desperate times, desperate measures and all that. Either way, I’m bloody glad he’ll be back next week.

Not sure Barnes would have changed much tonight. The lads upfront got no service whatsoever.

You're right he will feed off all the chances we create from our midfield.

Barnes doesn't need service. His backside creates chances his feet finish. Love the man.

Puts himself about, wins free kicks etc. Could’ve made a difference.

Barnes is a talisman, he'll get an extra few percent out of the rest just by being on the pitch because nobody likes to play against him.

We’ve just got to get the ball in the box as much as possible, whether through crosses, corners, long balls, speculative shots - anything will do. Barnes is excellent at holding up the play and winning free kicks to gain us territory. With the current regulations on handball you are one bounce of the ball away from a penalty.

You mean he may have lost his lightening speed?

Good bet to score v Newcastle. A class act who's been sadly missed
He also have a quiet word with his team mates who are not putting in a decent shift like several were yesterday

I'm more bothered about Jay Rod potentially being out for a few weeks tbh. Barnes coming back in makes our attacking play even more predictable.

He gives us something different and is technically better than some realise. Will be a massive boost to the squad when he’s back. I agree that Jay and Wood should start but it’s good to have him and Vyds on standby.

Barnes will be better if we continue to lump it up front.

Wood only wins headers he can score from in the box and Vydra needs it to feet.

Barnes is not our fastest or most talented player, but he makes things happen and fights when things are going against us.... he would be in my team most weeks, and never further away than the bench; when fit.

Barnes has the determination and will give 100% every game. He's basically a pain in the backside for the opposition.

It's not too long ago it was Wood-Barnes partnership that was easily the starters. A poster even made a thread about it and would bump it up after every match, as they were doing so well.

We improved massively as soon as Jay came in for Barnes last season. We actually started playing a bit of football. Barnes coming back forces us to pump it long constantly.
