Scotty Arfield
Scott getting plaudits today for a fantastic performance in Rangers 5-1 win against Motherwell today. Man of the match and quite rightly so...
He is just what we are missing now.his pace and accuracy of passing is really good.
Wish we had him back.

How many great players have we had that came from Northern Ireland league football. Were they all no good because they played for amateur teams or pub leagues?

In Law's and Dalglish's day and, to a lesser extent, Strachan's it was a good league. The Enclosure wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 2:22 pmReally? There has been quite a few decent players coming from the amateur level as you put it that didnt do too badly in English teams.
To name a few - Dennis Law. Kenny Dalglish.Gordon Strachan and hundreds of others.

Well done Scotty playing in the Scottish league its extended his career which would never have happened at Premier league Burnley
Great in the Championship but lacked the ability for the big time

Must be a good shout, cannot think of anyone close.... David Reeves way back because he brought a ray of sunshine to some very dark days; but Scotty has proved beyond reasonable doubt he would have been good for the two year extension he wanted from us... and some.

Re: Scotty Arfield
I watched the Rangers v Motherwell match today and irrespective of the fact some perceive the Scottish Premier as pub football ( which it most certainly is not) Scotty gave a fantastic performance today. I have to say his pace and his passing accuracy was better by far than several of our players yesterday.Passing accuracy and pace are there whatever the opposition standard.

Its great to see the way some fans endow Scottie with ability he never possessed
A reasonable player but to suggest he could have still played at our level is so wrong

Best free transfer to the Clarets? Surely has to be Martin Dobson from Bolton Wanderers.

Yes free transfers... I’d just been reading a loan thread when I mentioned Reeves..... my error.
My second point regarding Scotty proving he would have been good value for the two year extension he was looking for, would have been good value.

Burnley connections on both sides in the Motherwell vs Rangers game, with Burnley fanatic Liam Grimshaw playing for Motherwell.

Thought David Reeves was a loan and we couldn’t afford to buy him which is why we had bucket collections.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 4:48 pmMust be a good shout, cannot think of anyone close.... Arfield is good at shooting and has an incredible work rate. What he isn't good at is passing and nether is he fast.

Re: Scotty Arfield
Scotty was a decent squad player for us. but I believe we offered him a 2 year deal back in 2018, and he rebuffed us as Rangers offered him a 4 year contract, he's also nearly 32 so if we'd have offered him the 4 years which Rangers did, he'd be another ageing utility player, which we really don't need.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 4:48 pmMust be a good shout, cannot think of anyone close.... What we are badly lacking is invention and guile in the middle of the park, and we've lacked this ever since Defour, firstly had his injuries and then was rightly let go, this is why we struggled to break down an organised Saints defence, who knew if they nullified Dwight's threat we had no plan b, that's where we need to spend big in this window, whether it's Harry Wilson, or somebody else, we need a creative spark from our midfield, and we have needed this for sometime.

Re: Scotty Arfield
You may be right but I understand (and am pretty sure) Scotty WANTED a two year contract and offered a one year extension only by us. Not that it matters, today.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 12:00 amScotty was a decent squad player for us. but I believe we offered him a 2 year deal back in 2018, and he rebuffed us as Rangers offered him a 4 year contract, he's also nearly 32 so if we'd have offered him the 4 years which Rangers did, he'd be another ageing utility player, which we really don't need.

Looks like he wasn't the only ex-player who had a good game:
Re: Scotty Arfield
Very good player for us but probably left at the right time. That league is a lot easier to play in and a good place to wind down your career.

I still think it would have been handy if he’d stayed. He didn’t get injured as far as I can remember.

Less than Stephens that's for sure. Same age too.
Re: Scotty Arfield
We got Stephens for £1M rising to £2M?
So you think Scotty is worth less than that if Rangers were to sell him?

I reckon this thread could be UTCs equivalent of Brighton’s Ashley Barnes one....
Re: Scotty Arfield
One game.
How good are Hamilton, Livingston and Ross County ? I bet League 1 players would have a chance of scoring a hatful against that lot.
Re: Scotty Arfield
A shout for David Jones in the best free transfers debate. We got two excellent players really with the effect he had on Dean Marney.
What a summer of transfer business that was. Kightly on loan, too, who weighed in with some vital goals.

Re: Scotty Arfield
Scott Arfield did a really good job for us, particularly in the two promotion seasons. The Premier League always looked a bit of a stretch for him but what a contribution he made in his five years at Burnley. As for wishing him back, that really is stretching it.
