The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
well that was something to behold, embarrassing I think a fair assessment with no real winner coming out of that, in fact neither coming out with any real credibility, of course as always IMO.
Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Lots of shouting, name calling and avoided questions.
About as expected i suppose

How sweet of you, to try to deflect Donalds ineptitude, Bullying, and downright refusal to condemn white supremacism as a tie.
How shameful of you!.........Do you have ANY decency?...

What is a “bud fight”?
Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
As I have said before the Democrats should have been bolder and gone for the man that is Bernie Sanders. With Biden who has shown in the past that he is not a great debater, he just needs to make sure he doesn't make any mistakes, rather then perform well.

'Feelings' count for nothing in these debates. Not condemning white supremacy is abhorrent, but the purpose of the debate is to win votes and eventually beat your opponent to win the election.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 5:50 amHow sweet of you, to try to deflect Donalds ineptitude, Bullying, and downright refusal to condemn white supremacism as a tie.

Does Trumps refusal to condemn white supremacy damage him politically?
No, it doesn't. It would probably damaged him more if he condemned it. So politically and in the arena of winning the election, it was the right answer.
What's more worrying is that Biden is up against Trump and he's incapable of clearly winning a debate against someone who is not particularly intellectual and has made catastrophic failings during his time in office.
This is election is going to be close and it is going to be close because the opposition is poor on a horrific scale.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Absolutely no chance Bernie would win against Trump. Trump even came out numerous times during the race for the nomination and said he wanted to face Sanders. Many, many people, especially the powerful and influential people with wealth and media dislike Donald Trump, but they would dislike a socialist in the White House more.
https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/ ... -democrats
The right were already queuing up the same anti-semitism stuff they did with Corbyn during the primaries. Even though Sanders is Jewish, they were trying to say his Judaism was “gaslighting” and that he was a real Jew because of his criticism of Israel and trying to link him to ties with the Soviet Union, all the same tactics.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
He refused to denounce white supremacy because white supremacists make up a large portion of his voting base.
After the debate he tweeted this:
'Volunteer to be a Trump Election Poll Watcher. Sign up today! #MakeAmericaGreatAgain'
A trump poll watcher? He doesn't even disguise it as a 'government' poll watcher, even though that in itself would be a strange thing to tweet. He's being blatant in his intended use of voter intimidation.
Couple this with the suppression of the mail voting system, and the American election looks like it will take a very sinister turn.

A quote from the debate:
"Proud boys, stand back and stand by, but I'll tell you what, somebody's gotta do something about Antifa and the left."
It doesn't take a great leap of thought to read that as an incitement to violence. I suppose the next few weeks will bear that out or not.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Was indeed average so must go down as a defeat for Trump and his acolytes who were painting this as a debate where he’d wipe the floor with Biden.
That didn’t happen, and while Biden hardly hit it out of the park, Trump cane across as belligerent and annoying rather than in charge.
There’s always one main take away from these types of things and I think it will be Trump’s unwillingness to denounce white supremacists, which was astonishing.
Get used to that OP from Trump supporters over the next few days. “Both as bad as each other!” They’re really, really not.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Watching those two just underlined once more, to the world, how fractured USA has become.
I doubt American politics has ever been very gracious. That was just embarrassing.
As with anything regarding Trump, it just quickly descended into chaos.
It's always his default mode, its what he creates, when involved in anything that remotely questions him.
And it is simply astounding the Dems only had Biden to endorse and contest the presidency against the awful excuse for a human being that Trump is.
The USA has become a humiliatingly bad, third world global reality show, littered with too many frightening consequences to dwell on.

Poll watchers are always appointed by the parties. It's the same in the UK. Each party (yes, including Democrats) has volunteers watching various aspects of the poll - specifically the count, but other aspects as well - to ensure it's done above board.GandalfsBeard wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:38 amHe refused to denounce white supremacy because white supremacists make up a large portion of his voting base.

You can't win a debate if the other party does not engage with the concept.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:25 amWhat's more worrying is that Biden is up against Trump and he's incapable of clearly winning a debate against someone who is not particularly intellectual and has made catastrophic failings during his time in office.
That was clearly Trumps tactic, he knows he'll lose in any coherent debate so his aim was to make the exercise pointless so the small portion of swing voters get nothing from it.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Trump with a tactic many of us can relate to.
Will never beat Biden in the nicely dressed, nicely spoken, Ivy League debating club, but drag him down to a pub style argument and he has a chance. He knows very well that many white American men (i.e. not represented by any anti-discrimination pressure groups) feel very strongly that they are never given a chance in life by that upper middle class Ivy League group. That’s his base. His challenge is appealing beyond his base.
Biden is of course completely useless. Trump is dislikable because he is brash and different, but he was born into a tough neighbourhood in Queens and has had to deal with groups like the NY mafia all his life (and presumably his Dad, working in property development, would have done too, so even as a kid Trump would have seen some things the rest of us can’t even contemplate). His tenure as President has been a mix of big wins and crippling defeats, but it has been different. Biden, it will be same, same, same. Not sure with China trying to dominate the world that a Biden win will be in our interests (e.g. China trying to take over the Commonwealth like Barbados by bribing them with investment).
The next 30 years is going to make the Cold War seem like kids play fighting. We need tough leaders. (no, I don’t like Trump despite the above balanced view on him)

How about bidens refusal to condemn the far left thugs ANTIFA and BLM? People defending their property is not white supremacy. Also trump has millions of black supporters so that arguments also flawed. How about Joe Bidens racism "poor kids can be just as smart as white kids"? Loving the backing for Trump from exactly the same people who have spent years denying reality.
He's a fascist, and he's ready to make America burn to stay in power.
"We need tough leaders"
People say stuff like that if they either don't care how it looks to normal people or don't learn any lessons from history.

Aye, probably destined to end in disaster is this. But fascinating for history buffs, or just anyone really, wondering how fascism takes hold. You don't need a cunning mastermind. You don't even need nice uniforms. Just tap into human's base instincts, whip up your mob of 'us' against 'them' and you're there.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:14 amLoving the backing for Trump from exactly the same people who have spent years denying reality.

White supremacists, anti abortion, homophobic, pro guns, religious extremists and outright racists are virtually guaranteed to vote for Trump so will that be enough to secure him another 4 years?
For them Trump can do no wrong!
And here in the UK we think we have it bad with the incompetent Johnson and his equally incompetent colleagues

Trump having black supporters doesn't prove or disprove anything. He also has many female supporters, yet has been recorded speaking in a sexist way. The race or gender of the people who support him aren't evidence of trump's character.

And your theory of white supremacy is nonsense my friend. Easy to criticise trump on this board but how about looking at the other candidate and maybe watch some alternate media. Did you know trump has been nominated 3 Times for the nobel peace prize? No you probably didn't as its not being covered yet Obama starts dropping bombs and still gets awarded it. I'm fine for anyone having valid points but the left refuses to acknowledge anything. Oh and BTW black unemployment is at a record low under trump. Keep up the great work Mr PresidentGandalfsBeard wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:32 amIf you're going to compare the ideology behind white supremacy to the BLM movement I don't know what to tell you.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Trump is continually complaining about voter fraud through 'Mail in' ballots, yet is more than happy to accept them from the military where he believes his power base is.
The military have been using 'Mail in' votes for over 100 years and there has never been any real problems. (Even during war time.) Why does he think civilian votes, from people who can see first hand the effect of his policy's should be any different?
CBS and other news organisations say he interupted Joe Biden when he was speaking about 73 times. The man is a racist, a hypocrite and a bully. Joe Biden stood up well to all Trump's bullying tactics calling the 'President' a clown and telling hin to "Shut up" and "Keep yapping man." at intervals during the so called debate.
God help the world if Trump is re-elected.

Re: The Bud Fight, sorry Presidential Debate
Oh well. Another one bites the dust. An interesting thread about last night's debate, until the village idiot started spamming it.

I think this is actually the first time in many years that the Republicans will be allowed to have "poll watchers" due to previous voter intimidation.

If she did it she should be put in prison. I don’t think you’ll find any contrary ‘lefties views.DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 10:29 amLooking forward to the lefties view on this. He’s been nominated by a right wing Norwegian MP (who previously nominated him for his meeting with Kim Jong Un) for his role in UAE/Israel deal, by a Swedish MP for his role in normalising economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo and a group of Australian professors for not involving US in more wars!DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 10:07 amDid you know trump has been nominated 3 Times for the nobel peace prize? No you probably didn't as its not being covered yet Obama starts dropping bombs and still gets awarded it. I'm fine for anyone having valid points but the left refuses to acknowledge anything.
Biden, as well as being endorsed by 81 Nobel Prize Winners, has also been nominated by a UK MP!
I think it’s more of a reflection on the nomination system than anything else!!
