BENSON
Re: BENSON
No, but hopefully a loan and higher than league 2 this time.
He needs to step up in level from last season, and play mens football every week

Re: BENSON
He's going to be 5th choice when Cork returns, but that's how I like it... 4 midfielders going for 2 spots, with a youth player being the 5th.
As mentioned, get him to a good Championship side and who knows, next season he may be a lot nearer to more first team action.

Re: BENSON
Isn’t he about 23? He should be in the first team squad, maybe even the 11 if good enough, and Cork should be the one sat on the bench coming in as the old head when required.
Re: BENSON
I look OK for my age, and certainly not getting any younger, do you think I could get a game. I'm only 63

He is 20. Another loan season then he should be looking at pushing for first team.

I've always said we should be going in for players who instead are actually getting younger. It would be a sound investment.

Of late most our loans out have been to L2 or lower, not much use in my opinion.

Re: BENSON
Already referred to this on the other thread. Benson, last week, said how much he'd benefited from it and how he's returned a better player. Getting a young lad out to a League Two club as we did with him and Glennon to Grimsby is very beneficial. Not sure how anyone can suggest it is not much use when young lads are getting the opportunity to play first team football.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:19 amOf late most our loans out have been to L2 or lower, not much use in my opinion.

Totally accept what you say there, but if he's progressed as he says then L2 would no longer be any use. could be a backward step, don't you think?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:33 amAlready referred to this on the other thread. Re: BENSON
Not what I was saying. As I posted on the other thread he himself spoke about how much he’d benefited from going there yet people on this board at the time were suggesting it was a waste of time and probably a way of getting him out of the door. The truth is he’s gained a hell of a lot from going there and playing first team football.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:37 pmTotally accept what you say there, but if he's progressed as he says then L2 would no longer be any use. could be a backward step, don't you think?
Interesting that Holloway has tried to get him and Glennon back, so far without success.

I am saying that another loan at L2 level seems a bit low to aim for.
i would expect Holloway to want any of our 20ish year olds on loan. Especially those who have been in the 1st team squad.

Re: BENSON
No whatevers about it, just read my post on this thread and the other one. I've never suggested anything other than him benefiting from his loan last season at Grimsby which gave him his first opportunity of first team football. It's obvious to anyone that should he go out on loan again we'd be looking to get him higher up.
Re: BENSON
I get where both you & Tony are on this one, L2 is ok for a 1st loan but we need to be a bit more ambitious for our young players sometimes, for both their & the football club's sake.Benson & Glennon by all accounts both did well & more importantly got game time with Holloway. These relationships are what we should be fostering, so by all means offer him some players from the age level below those two but like you say Benson & Glennon need to step up to, ideally, lower Championship level this time to develop further.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 7:04 pmCT, you seem to be getting this a bit wrong, i said another L2 loan would be aiming low., not you. Personally I didn't understand the decision to send Phillips & Cooney back to Morecambe, they got good reports, Phillips got a few goals & assists-isn't he 22/23? So he's really in need of career progression......unless BFC & Morecambe had an agreement for them to return because of their curtailed season, it all seems a bit amateurish.
Re: BENSON
Benson hasn't looked out of place on the two occasions he's come on in the Cup.
And done enough to warrant being in the squad and possibly on the bench.
We don't quite know when Cork will be back or whether he'll be able to slot
straight back in contention for a start. He could be 4-6 weeks away.
Any injuries to Westwood, Brownhill or Stephens in the meantime would leave us
short so if Benson is to go out on loan it should be an immediate recall if necessary.
A higher division than last time would be beneficial but it probably doesn't matter
as long as he's getting game time.

It really is good fun and you will be encouraged to play as well as you can - however good, or not quite as good, that may be. I am playing 2 or 3 sessions a week here in Birmingham& Solihull (we started again back in August) and, as I never had much pace when I was younger, I find I am better now than then (at least I can keep up now) -despite being WAY, WAY overweight nowadays. There are some very good players out there, including some ex-pros but I have found them all to be very supportive, except for one, not to be named, individual (in my experience).

Re: BENSON
Benson looks like he could go the distance so I agree that his next loan (if any) should be at a level closer to ours. However, SD and his team have a good understanding of what is needed by these young players, they don't seem to have missed any future stars so far, so I trust them to do what is right for both the player and Burnley Football Club.

I would think any chance of him being loaned out is pretty slim with the amount of players we currently have fit and with the potential to lose a few more at any moment with the virus.

Re: BENSON
Nothing I’d heard but it was very quick. Both looked decent in the u23s last season but interestingly we’ve released one right back (Senior) and let two more go out on loan (Cooney & Cropper). Maybe they have high hopes for Elva-Fountaine who has just signed.
