Eric Pieters
Surely this guy is the perfect cover for Ben Mee?
An experienced leader and organiser, left footed, brave, quicker than the other options, understands the left back role and would compliment the Taylor/McNeil partnership.
The trouble with playing our other current CH options is that they are all right footed and Tarks is not as effective on the left.
I remember Ward filling in that position and playing a blinder - similar player and worth a shout?

Do like him but I’d sooner he be cover for our first 11 that can cover loads of positions.

Erik’s the reason I don’t see the desperate need to strengthen in a number of positions. Brilliant.

Would still have that option when Mee returns - or bring on Long and move EP forward mid-game.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 8:32 amDo like him but I’d sooner he be cover for our first 11 that can cover loads of positions.

Re: Eric Pieters
He can play there but Dyche seems to think Taylor is better suited if pre season is anything to go by.
I'm not sure he's quicker though. He's definitely slower than Taylor, Dunne and Long. Perhaps no slower than Mee or Tarkowski though.

I'd play Eric at left back put Charlie in front wide left, with instructions to push forward and attack .
Dwight I'd play on the right as hes been successful in this role

I agree Neil. Solves a lot of issues and really makes us solid defensively both left and right as we know Dwight is OK tracking back.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 9:06 amI'd play Eric at left back put Charlie in front wide left, with instructions to push forward and attack .

Re: Eric Pieters
I remember Pieters being a bit vulnerable defensively, when he had his run in the team and that is why so many were calling for Taylor to come back in.
That said his absolute professionalism to play anywhere on the pitch he has been needed is brilliant. Always gives you 100%.
I'd rather try Tarks and Dunne at CB.

Boo, i was hoping we had signalled our intent for him to become our new RW, with a new 3 year deal being signed.
Come on Mike let's get these players tied down now

For all his attributes, and considering his size, I don't think that Pieters is good enough in the air to be a PL Centre Back.

Re: Eric Pieters
Taylor is currently our standout player-needs to stay at LB when playing PL teams. Pieters was bought as LB cover and can also play wide left midfield at a push, or in an emergency
He is not a CH, but maybe playing 3 at the back he could play left of the 3 , but SD never plays that system. Think he did this for Stoke. He has no CH experience and is no where close to Mee , Tarks,Dunne or Long at heading, and sadly is slower than all four.
He will give you 100% wherever you play him but playing both him and McNeil in midfield, where we are already weak, just does not work. We now have the versatility of Brownhill and the emergence of Benson, plus the arrival of Stephens so MP should revert to being LB cover

Re: Eric Pieters
Taylor is that good at left back now why would you move him ? Keep the best players in their best positions. Pieters is a good player though. I prefer him wide than putting Brownhill wide.

Took me a few seconds to find this thread. Why can't others do the same? A million new threads created each time someone wants to discuss a player.
Anyway, I digress. Thought Pieters was excellent tonight and particularly loved his challenge on Salah around the 85th minute. It was the kind of challenge that sends a message. Salah spent a good minute on the floor after.
Taylor gets a lot of credit and deservedly too but Pieters is some ways is still the better player imo.

Been invaluable.
Plays anywhere he's asked to.
When he came on last night, he was at them first off. Played well.

Re: Eric Pieters
he was on comms cam last night looking very well indeed
Re: Eric Pieters
I saw him just before Xmas when I was talking my son to his under sevens football training. Made sure he saw my son’s full claret strip and we exchanged a cheery hello. I think coaching children is what he does now, although unfortunately not my son.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 12:59 pmhe was on comms cam last night looking very well indeed

Re: Eric Pieters
Whilst I quite like the idea of having an ongoing thread for each of our players, it may be confusing for some people to click unwittingly on a months-old thread after a game to read totally irrelevant comments.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 6:41 amTook me a few seconds to find this thread. Erik Pieters is a superb professional footballer, with great heart and commitment. He is the one bombing forward, at the death, if we are one down.
Against Liverpool he came on against Salah and won.

Re: Eric Pieters
I posted it a while back but its basic forum etiquette, you search for a thread before you make a new one. The forum is full of generic threads with players names, there's so many threads on the same topic its impossible to even find what's been said before about a player previously, and the same thing gets said again and again. The date is on the top of each post so it should be easy for people to see prior posts. I don't see what's so hard about searching for a previously topic by players names. Some people do it, so everyone can.

Its awful, it makes the place look amateur compared to most forums.

Re: Eric Pieters
Like I say, I’d have no problem with it - it’s a decent idea. But I can see why some people might find it difficult. If the thread was really long it may also be confusing for some people to navigate to the point when the thread had been most recently when the thread was most recently resurrected.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:53 pmI posted it a while back but its basic forum etiquette, you search for a thread before you make a new one. The difference between Burnley/football and the subject matter some of the other forums you frequent may be the constantly evolving nature of the topics. So the comments at the beginning of this thread are relating to Pieters filling in for Mee, which is now a totally redundant subject matter. I think you mentioned you moderate A/V forums - in which case I can see the benefit of only having one thread to discuss a particular model of television for example.

I know what you're saying but there's so many threads it's not possible really for there to be a considerable gap between comments if people stick to posting a single thread.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 6:45 pmLike I say, I’d have no problem with it - it’s a decent idea. I think a thread per player is a much better idea, and one you find on other football forums too. Don't see why it can't be done here but that's totally up to what the site decides.

Re: Eric Pieters
Agreed, Taylor is much better and pivotal to any prolonged run of form we ever have. PIeters is decent backup and never a starter with a fully fit squad (which is obviosly rare thesedays).Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:01 amI’ve got to admit, I’m amazed at that, each to their own though.

There might be a "Keiran trippier" thread that discussed his ban and betting activity, there might be a "Keiran trippier" thread that discussed signing him, two headings the same but content different. It doesn't really bother me and the mods usually do a good job of merging threads if too similar.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:53 pmI posted it a while back but its basic forum etiquette, you search for a thread before you make a new one. Ideally the threads would be named better but I'm not about to sit here and tell people they are using the message board wrong. Basic etiquette, please!

I just want the forum to be a better place, its impossible to find past info on whats been said about a player now because there's so many threads opened each time. I see no reason why people can't discuss Trippiers betting under a Trippier thread.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:52 amThere might be a "Keiran trippier" thread that discussed his ban and betting activity, there might be a "Keiran trippier" thread that discussed signing him, two headings the same but content different. You're right about one thing though, its up to Tony and the mods whether they want to do anything about it or not.
Certainly doesn't have the pace or dribbling skills that Taylor has, but Taylor's stats are pretty poor when it comes to assists. 89 games with only 3 assists. Pieters 209 with 11.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:01 amI’ve got to admit, I’m amazed at that, each to their own though.

Pieters also has a better shot on him, and his crossing isn't shabby either, seen one or two more peaches from Pieters in to the box compared to Taylor.

Re: Eric Pieters
Looked brilliant today, should have set up a goal with his marauding run forward and great assist for Wood.
He may not have the pace or dribbling skills as Taylor, but he can pick out a player in the opposing box and is astute generally in defence.

Think he stands off his winger far too much (probably a conservative move to avoid being beaten for pace ) and allows more crosses in.

I'm with Charlie ( not literally ) on pieters , he does get drawn to the middle sometimes which allows the winger far to much space . But , a great backup signing .
