Danni Welbeck available
Danni Welbeck available
As we have all ex premier league protégés having their own thread if they’re free, here’s another one.
Right footed I believe, might fill a hole on our right side...

Absolutely for me as long as he can fit in to our wage structure

Pointless. Unless he can play centre-back

Re: Danni Welbeck available
If we needed a centre forward I'd be all for it, but we don't and he doesn't fit in for us on the wing.
Re: Danni Welbeck available
Would absolutely walk into our side atm, runs his knackers off

Re: Danni Welbeck available
Watford fans of my acquaintance say he was , one overhead kick goal aside, a waste of space with them. Made of the same glass as JBG and Brady too.

Odd one really, never excelled on the wing or up front and has a habit of being injured...

Re: Danni Welbeck available
Why would we need an injury prone striker on megabucks who'd rarely if ever play.
And besides that Welbeck's record is hardly prolific, we don't need another wage stealer in the Danny Drinkwater vein.
If he's so sought after he'll have clubs queueing up to sign him surely.

Re: Danni Welbeck available
Would put him in same category as Daniel Sturridge-once great now close to retiring
The one bit of business that would have pleased me is Theo Walcott-gone to Saints on loan, Everton paying half his wages.Very quick, right sided(more direct than Lennon), who could play down the middle on his own or just behind the front man as an option.

Re: Danni Welbeck available
In the context of our window so far I’d take him if he’d be up for covering right wing on a pay as you play deal. Don’t think he’d get in our side up front.

McNeil has better stats for last season than Walcott....warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 8:42 pmWould put him in same category as Daniel Sturridge-once great now close to retiring

Re: Danni Welbeck available
I would not expect Walcott to have better stats than Dwight, as the latter is a better player and would command an infinitely bigger fee if soldGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 8:46 pmMcNeil has better stats for last season than Walcott....
Dwight played nearly 40% more games and played every minute last season, and is the most creative player in the current team. Theo is surrounded by better players and will have been subbed at times owing to the strength of their bench
The point I was making is that Walcott could turn out to be a strong acquisition for the Saints-a club he started at and then commanded a huge fee as a teenager. I dont know if you watch a lot of other teams in the PL. The Saints have had an incredible away record through breaking lightning quick. With Redmond injured I see Theos pace being a big assett for them, even if only from the bench. Time will tell

Re: Danni Welbeck available
I don’t think that’d be difficult he hardly featured did he? I should imagine odd starter appearances & substitute, he’s moved to Southampton because he was surplus at Everton.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 8:46 pmMcNeil has better stats for last season than Walcott....
Re: Danni Welbeck available
Peoples perception is very interesting, my Everton supporting mates would have gladly driven Walcott there. They've been massively underwhelmed.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 8:42 pm

Re: Danni Welbeck available
just like the Villa fans would have with Westwood. Just like the Huddersfield fans who could not believe we had signed Arfield. Just like the Bristol City fans re Heaton
I am sure if someone offered us good money for Dwight at least a few posters on here would be saying they were warming the car up

My point being we should be signing young and exciting players, not another Lennon...

Re: Danni Welbeck available
Was told once by an influential mentor "to do nothing is to do wrong". At least Saints did something to strengthen their team, and just maybe Walcott's contribution might make the difference. I might be wrong.I am certain the bulk of Saints fans will be happier than ours tonightGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:17 pm25 appearances.

Re: Danni Welbeck available
We seemingly can’t afford young and exciting players which is why people are mentioning older free transfers and loans.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:17 pm25 appearances.

OK agreed, So where are these "young exciting player loans".GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:57 pmWe can loan younger exciting players though.
The last older winger we signed from Everton didn't exactly pull up any trees.
We have had over 2 month of windows to get them, and they are about, As I say "to do nothing is to do wrong", and however you want to debate this, its what BFC has done. I am certain that after several months of not even getting close to a signature in the window (barring Stephens) that nothing will happen in the next EPL short window

Re: Danni Welbeck available
Maybe Mystic Mike Rigg has been pulling "young and exciting" players out of his top hat for months with the Manager tap-dancing with excitement in the background but Captain Smith won't sign the cheque?
or maybe the chequebook was dusted down but the Manager thinks they're a bit young and exciting so said no?
Or maybe Mystic Mike is still on the hunt?
Who knows?

Andy Carroll had it tooGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:10 pmI can recall 2 players being given that sort of deal, Terry at Chelsea and Owen Hargreaves at Utd.
It doesn't appear to be that common

Re: Danni Welbeck available
& you can count on 1 hand the full 90mins played I should imagine, he’s a step up to Lennon but that’s another debate for another day I don’t really like digressing away from DW on this thread but I felt the need to regarding the DM & TW stat comparisons.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:17 pm25 appearances.
