Re: ARTICLE: Boyd out in the cold at Posh
a very good player for us who was ‘typical’ Burnley with his tireless, relentless approach and ‘never-say-die’ attitude!
Unforgettable brilliant goal to beat champions City!
best of luck with your future George!

My very best wishes to George, for whatever comes next.
A Claret hero.

Surprising, but it doesn't seem to have worked out for him going back there. Wasn't much good when he played on the Turf again in January.

Struggled eventually at Sheffield Wednesday but was surprised to see he only started 17 league games last season, then I realised they'd only played 35. Going to be difficult for him now I would think getting a new club. Have to say he didn't look like the George Boyd we knew in that cup tie.

A good claret in his time with us, 90 minutes effort throughout and late equaliser in 3 all draw at St James Park will not be forgotten.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd out in the cold at Posh
reading Fry's quotes it seems more like they've released him because they can't afford his wages due to a wage cap rather than his ability

I always liked Boyd, put everything into it even if he wasn't the best player out there.
One person I know really doesn't like him and refuses to call him by name
I once photoshopped his face onto a match day pic of Boyd and someone else celebrating.
He wasn't amused

Bolton still desperate for a few players and he lives in Manchester area so may end up there
One of my favourites with Scott Arfield in their time together and complimented each other

Could be frustrating to watch at times but he didn’t half put a shift in which I like. You could tell he was always doing exactly what the manager had instructed him to do.

I watched "Boydie" starting out at Stevenage and thought he was great for Burnley in his time with us. If he takes a serious salary cut he could finish off back at Stevenage!!

Quite a few of our integral players seem to struggle once they’ve moved on from playing under Dyche.
Great signing for us and made a huge contribution during his time with us.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd out in the cold at Posh
He was playing at the very edge of his ability when we were top of the Championship and in the Premier League but he was able to do so because of his tremendous work ethic and attitude.
A man of lesser character might have opted to be a star player in the lower leagues.
Wish him all the best, a player I very much enjoyed watching in a Burnley shirt.
Good luck Boydy.

Age is against him for a return to Turf Moor i'd have thought and if he can't get a regular spot in the Posh side I would think not.

I was referring to the pay cut bit, (i.e. putting us on a par with Stevenage). Maybe I should have used a smiley?aclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 7:42 pmAge is against him for a return to Turf Moor i'd have thought and if he can't get a regular spot in the Posh side I would think not.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd out in the cold at Posh
True but this shows we move players on at the right time, Boyd was a great servant for us, and scored some important goals during his TM stint, none more so than the winner against City, but it was clear in his last season that he was struggling to maintain his standards at the elite level.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 7:14 pmQuite a few of our integral players seem to struggle once they’ve moved on from playing under Dyche.

And his lack of impact at Sheff Wed justified Sean's decision not to keep him on, I hope for his sake he finds a new club, or manages to get a role elsewhere within the game, maybe he'll take his coaching badges if he hasn't already done so.

Absolutely, players like Jones, Vokes, Ward, Boyd, Shackell we’ve improved on no doubt.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:00 pmTrue but this shows we move players on at the right time, Boyd was a great servant for us, and scored some important goals during his TM stint, none more so than the winner against City, but it was clear in his last season that he was struggling to maintain his standards at the elite level.

Strange to see how poor they are at their subsequent clubs though.
As I’ve said before it probably says a lot about the set up we have here as well, getting the absolute maximum out of players.

If you look back at Boyd's time with us and view the goal replays, 9 times out of 10 it is Boyd the first person there with the goalscorer celebrating, amazing team player.

An excellent player for us and I wish him all the best wherever his career takes him.
Agree with the above comments. SD certainly knows when he’s had all he can get from a player so moves him on. The science technology department will obviously have the facts that aid this decision.

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd out in the cold at Posh
That game he scored in against City really summed up Boyd and a Dyche team generally. I know we went down in the end as we just weren’t good enough but the work rate that night was ridiculous, literally ran themselves into the ground.
Also I passed him coming back from Sheffield a couple of years ago at the lights in Mottram and his hair was magnificent.

Never did anything wrong for us and always seemed to give his best. Isn't that what being a Burnley player is all about; doing your best?

Re: ARTICLE: Boyd out in the cold at Posh
I always got the impression he had to sacrifice a bit of his game to play for us. From the bits I saw of him before he joined us he seemed really creative and chipped in with plenty of goals and assists, which we never really saw from him at Burnley.
