That is really good news. Although it could mean he will be worth more in January.

Re: Dwight McNeil
Great news for us, hopefully this will relax him a bit, and he can rediscover last seasons form.
Wonder what the catch is, I suspect there's a release fee in there somewhere.

Suspect the catch is a much bigger salary.
Brilliant news though. Better than nothing on TDD2!

Re: Dwight McNeil
It makes sense to tie Dwight down to a longer deal, realistically I think we know the chances of him still being a BFC player in 2025 are slim to none, but this does mean if the big boys come calling we can play hard ball and demand top dollar for one of our prized assets, we've always been a selling club, even during our glory days of the 60's we sold on and then developed, and for the long term future of the club it's vital we continue to develop saleable assets, no matter what level we're competing at, this has to be a big part of our business model.

Re: Dwight McNeil
Not a bad transfer window after all. Tarkowski staying, McNeil signing a new contract, a solid midfielder joining the club.

Mental that people think this. Its been nothing short of an horrendous window.
To nick somebodies quote on twitter. We have more kits then premier league CB's with today's third kit announcement.

I am pretty happy with the window.
Got rid of loads of deadwood, Brady and gudmundsson fit again.
Arguably we have a stronger (fit squad) than we did last season.
Could have done with a RW but not the end of the world

Excuse me?
Brady? Fit again?
The same Brady who has missed two of our three league games through injury?

Re: Dwight McNeil
It's had its positives - retaining Tarky, Dwight and Pope but had any of them gone they would have needed to be replaced just as Hendrick, Hart, Gibson and Lennon were. Oh hang on, still waiting for two of those replacements. Total agreement, this has not been a good window, far from it.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 2:48 pmGood news but anyone who thinks this has been a good window has got to be taking the mick.

Sure we’ll get an interview from the chairman or Rigg in the coming days telling how tough it is and how it’ll be different in January.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 2:54 pmIt's had its positives - retaining Tarky, Dwight and Pope but had any of them gone they would have needed to be replaced just as Hendrick, Hart, Gibson and Lennon were. I don't agree with all Sean's public snipping, but he has been sold down the river a bit more than usual in another transfer window...

Re: Dwight McNeil
We went into the season last year with just Westwood and cork.
We now have 4 viable CM options with the option of Benson coming through.
We have lost Hendrick at RM who I think we should have replaced but now gudmundsson and Brady are fit it’s not the end of the world.
Let’s be honest we have lost nothing in defence because Gibson never featured and was a bad egg by all accounts. Dunne looks an adequate 4th choice.
Lowered our wage bill during an economic crisis and kept our best players. Not a bad window in my opinion and know where near as bad as some fans would have you believe.

Realistically Dyche should have sold one of his stars at peak price to get funds for himself.
He has obviously chose to keep them.
It's his decision.

To be fair since Hendrick played the majority of games at RM I didn’t class him as a CM.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 3:17 pmWe went into last season with Westwood, Cork, Hendrick and Drinkwater
Forgot about drink water as again never featured due to his poor attitude and fitness. So again I would say we are definitely stronger in this area now

Excellent news McNeil signing another deal, but I wonder why it's only a one year extension? (With another one year option.) Why not tie him down for anther three of four? Seems a strange one to me but welcome none the less.

Re: Dwight McNeil
Well actually five in total because Steven Defour was still with us for about three weeks after the window closed. We couldn't have known at the time that Drinkwater wasn't going to be involved either.
We had a strong squad when last summer's window closed and able to name two teams of experienced players. We can't do that now.

As said, we didn't know at the time what we were going to get from Drinkwater other than yourself who must have been the only person who knew he was going to get involved in a night club incident, but the fact is that when the window closed last summer we hadboatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 3:36 pmSure, but being able to name them and getting a shift out of them are poles apart

Yes, it would appear that I was correct inasmuch as I said DD would be a flop. Obviously I didn't know the night club incident would happen. Maybe I just have a thing against drink driving.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 3:42 pmAs said, we didn't know at the time what we were going to get from Drinkwater other than yourself who must have been the only person who knew he was going to get involved in a night club incident, but the fact is that when the window closed last summer we had

But, DD aside we didn't do too well out of Gibson, or the unfortunate Defour.

Not sure any players sign a contract keeping them at a club for 8 years.
That's the same as a joint facebook account, where your balls are kept inside your partner's purse.

Re: Dwight McNeil
McNeil signing an extension to his contract is the best news that we have had this window.
We all realise that we need new blood, but all have different opinions on how to go about introducing these new players.
For me, in our financial position, it would be sourcing players from the top half of the Championship and waiting for them to get an opportunity, such as Taylor and Tarks when we originally signed them.
Going to back to McNeil, that certainly makes Burnley stronger financially.

Re: Dwight McNeil
It’s excellent news Nonayforever but it’s been dressed up a bit when it’s only one year longer than the deal he was already on. He’s had a very quiet start to the season but I rate Dwight highly and so the longer he’s here, the better. If we do go on to sell him then every year remaining on the contract helps financially.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 7:04 pmMcNeil signing an extension to his contract is the best news that we have had this window.
