Anthony Higginbotham
One of the 322 MP's who voted to help the poorest children in society become even hungrier this winter. Hope all the local Burnley Tory voters are proud of him.

I do think in the current climate this really needs sorting, children will starve, we are not a third world country. Terrible to imagine young children living local to me starving whilst I throw food away every week.
Re: Anthony Higginbotham
I doubt he actually voted for that.
I think he's saying it should be a short term last resort option, however it's quite clear they are parents out there that expect the state to raise their children for them.
No child should ever go hungry, but also their parents should so everything in their power to make sure that doesnt happen, sadly there are way too many that put themselves before their children.
When does the chain ever break if the plan is to continue to throw money at the parents hoping some trickles down?
Its heartbreaking

To right, churning children out for some is down to a fine art every 9mths as sure as eggs, the practicalities of how to raise a large family responsibly isn’t even a consideration, I’d personally cap all benefits exceeding 2 children to discourage abusing the system. Not the children’s fault I feel sorry for them.MACCA wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2020 9:43 pmI doubt he actually voted for that.

We live in the 21st Century, seriously, nobody in the UK should be going hungry... food and shelter should be a given. No matter what your circumstances, poor, homeless, smackhead or whatever.... especially children, even if you think the parents are to blame, it’s still not the children’s fault.
I don’t know how anyone can justify choosing to see people starve.

I don’t know how anyone can justify choosing to see people starve.
I see the argument is to give childrens parents the money equivalent of what the usual school meal costs, which is a great idea, but what if the parent STILL decides not to buy or fees that child a meal?
Then surely the system wouldn't be working.
In my opinion, I'd open up certain schools / community centres through the holidays to guarantee ANY hungry family can get a meal.
Throwing hundreds of pounds at a person hoping something trickles down to their child(ren) clearly doesnt work, we can see evidence of that already with current benefit system, as houses are still without heating, hot water, food not in cupboards, and children are still walking around with inappropriate or substandard clothing etc.
But politicians or members of the public scoring points by saying there's people out their choosing to watch children starve depending on who you voted for is pretty low.
It tkes a special kind of person to try and points score with serious matters like this.

But at present there about 3 million people (freelancers and many self-employed), who haven't been able to earn a penny since March and have not been entitled to a penny in support from the govt.
They are getting by on minimal level benefits.
Not their fault that they are prevented from working by a virus.

I wouldn’t wish to prevent anyone, rich or poor, from having a child, who wishes to do so, and no children should be going hungry.
Where I do struggle is with those that choose to have multiple children with no means to care for them, either financially or responsibly as a parent and caring role model.
I can see the argument for not funding above one child but that just won’t help the children that are second, third or fourth, why should they suffer for the parents that they’re saddled with?
It’s a cycle that won’t be resolved. There’s no education programme that will change what has been engrained across generations.

No but its in his and his fellow MPs grasp to make a difference now and help these children in the current crisis.
The criticism isnt that they are responsible for the cause but are rejecting the opportunity to help and when you look at all the money they have wasted over the last 6 months it just adds to the discgrace

That’s basically how I see things, you bring children into this world you need to provide for them or wear contraception, people can blame the virus but you need to plan & think ahead & prepare yourself for all eventualities being a responsible parent, it’s only the same as being off work on long term sick you cover yourself with insurance or dip into your savings or find alternative employment unaffected by the virus.
