The next American President?
The next American President?
Trump or Biden?
Trump all the way.
He's a bit eccentric but pre pandemic Americas economy were the best it's been for decades and he has made ore moves for peace in the middle East than any president for decades.

Biden, then when he pops his clogs in office they end up with a Black female president and let's be honest that would be amusing to watch large numbers of their population have a meltdown.

Is Trump more likely to lead us into a major conflict than Biden?
I despise Donald Trump with every fibre of my being but I understand that he's the first President since Regan to not start a war. He might just be the best of these two bad uns.
Voting for the least **** is typical of todays politics mind.

Re: The next American President?
I don't get it when people have this kind of sentiment, as if Biden is somehow tied with Trump on any metric tangible or intangible. Is there someone in the USA who would make a better president, most probably, but they were not in the position to get nominated so lets not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Is Biden inspiring or represent any great shift from President's we've seen in the past? No not really, he's a statesman as opposed to a personality like the current Whitehouse or No10 resident, but I'd much prefer a statesman in charge of a state.
He's a career politician with a long list of achievements plus the experience of being VP.
With one in for UK citizens now believing in some kind of global conspiracy nonsense I'm sure someone will pipe up with dementia or child molestation claims
Biden to me represents a seemingly honest if not boring pair of hands and I for one cannot wait for a boring statesman to be in charge. Reminds me a bit of Starmer

Biden, for the sake of the planet, the most under discussed issue confronting mankind is the climate crisis and Trump doesn't think it's a problem.

Any specific reasons again Biden (I can understand Trump) or just general political apathy and a feeling that someone in public service for 50 years must have ill motives?
And If not one of those two who specifically in the US political sphere would you rather see in the Whitehouse?

Re: The next American President?
It should be Biden, and although by no means perfect his presidency might (and I stress might) lead to more bi-partisanship in both houses.
I long for the good old days when politics was dull, and it'd also be good to see Kamala Harris in such a prominent role, and the likely next president of the USA.
This video from Utah shows that there is some politicians who want to work together despite being in opposite camps, and this is desperately needed in the US right now, people are bored of the tribalism, and are crying out for leadership and consensus.

I don't know why folk are so bothered either way, every US President in the last 20/30 years has been f***ing mental.
Apart from the black one obviously, he was groovy and didn't put a foot wrong.
Anyway, we had Boff Johnson and the scruffy immigrant lover to choose from last time out. Hardly ideal.

Where has he express that all property should be owned by the community and that US citizens should contribute and receive according to their ability and needs?
He supports some socialist ideas but he is not a communist by any stretch of the meaning.

Re: The next American President?
Trump is frightening, if Nixon were still alive and had Trump as advisor he'd never have been impeached, what he (Trump) has gotten away with defies belief. Mind you it's the same over here. In the good old days if a Minister's department made a balls up the Minister resigned, now the minister or even an MP can make their own mega balls up and completely get away with it, sod accountability. So, re-elect the sociopath or his septuagenerian democratic democratic opponent? I'm not ageist, being 67, but surely they could have come up with a better option. After all that, hopefully Biden.

As I said , glean whatever you want from it. I gleaned from your reply that , for your you, living beyond the average life expectancy of the average US citizen, was for both candidates, something of an achievement. You may not find it relevant that a former president who's been out of politics for 20 years is younger than both candidates. I can live with that.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 12:03 amI'm not the one who brought up their age, you did

This is the level of craziness we're dealing with from the right. Biden is a "communist" to these nut jobs.
There's literally nothing about Biden that has ever signalled that he's a communist, but because he isn't an unfettered-capitalism capitalist then to these guys he's a "communist".
Anyone calling him a communist just shouldn't be listened to. They've signalled their utter irrelevance.

Re: The next American President?
I'm hoping Biden will win so that the left can start going on the offensive again with a leftist agenda rather than just having to defend the basic freedoms they enjoy, and which have been attacked and diminished over the last 4 years.
And the potential for a presidential crimes commission is just too popcorn worthy because Trump has committed so many crimes in broad daylight and right in front of us that I can't even imagine everything he'll have been upto in secret.
But there's about 30% of me that thinks he's going to successfully steal the election, or have his Russian handlers steal it for him since we already know they had that capability in 2016 (but were supposed to believe they didn't change vote totals that time).
The next 11 days, and the post election day days should be a lot of fun for those of us who enjoy being proven right about bad people.
When Hitler knew he had lost he retreated to a bunker and did the right thing. We know Trump admires Hitler, and he has a bunker, so maybe it'll be Mike Pence who hands over the Presidency.
