OLED v QLED
OLED v QLED
Apologies as I know there are lots of TV threads already, but i didnt want to hijack a thread.
From what I can work out OLED is better quality then QLED due to individual pixels being lit over back panel lit. But is it an extra £1k better quality? Take the 2 sets below. is the LG really worth another grand over the Samsung, before I go parting with my hard earned cash?

Re: OLED v QLED
First problem here is 65" is very large for an OLED, hence the massive price difference. Scaling up an LCD panel is far far cheaper. I bet if you were looking at the same models but 55" the price difference would be much smaller.
Is it an extra 1k better? Depends what a grand is worth to you. About 4 years back I bought a 55" Samsung KS9500 for about £1800 instead of the £2400 LG OLED that was the flagship LG at the time. I could afford it but it just seemed too much at the time, £1800 (on sale at that)
for the next best thing was enough I convinced myself, I wouldn't tell the difference anyway.
I regret that decision still. OLED is so much better when you watch something side by side. Every time I see the slightest bit of "light bleed" I kick myself. Nobody else notices it, but they haven't read up on the difference or what light bleed is. But I have. I see it. You have and so will you
Besides QLED is just marketing speak to cause confusion and make people think it's comparable to OLED because it sound similar. Samsung have the monopoly on LCD panels and why would they want to move onto a new technology when LED is still so profitable. Bang a Q on the front and you can allllmost charge as much.
Buy the OLED if you can afford it. You're future proofing yourself. Why are all phone screens OLED? It's just miles better. You couldn't sell a flagship Samsung or apple phone with an led screen, it would look crap.
So, if the extra grand won't bankrupt you get the OLED.
Weirdly, I only write long posts when it's about TV's.

I have 65 LG OLed and whilst it’s great, I am now on my 3rd new screen, as mine as has developed screen burn from the banners that run along the bottom of news and sports channels, which leaves a green banner across the bottom of the tele.
Worth buying from somewhere like John Lewis who give you a 5 year warranty.

Re: OLED v QLED
There's no such thing as QLED. They are just LCD TVs.
Clever marketing to make an older display technology seem a rival to OLED. All QLED means it's a way for an LCD TV to display colour. It's nothing special, or particularly better than other LCD tvs without the QLED marketing.
Consider buying at a better time than now. Prices are high. Not unreasonable to pay 1500 for a tv like the LG BX but only if you buy at the right time.
TV's right now can cost more than 40% then they will in sales. Black Friday being the first time each year where you may see a good deal. Spring is bargain time as old stock makes way for new.
Regarding LCD or OLED beware that the higher you go in size the better value an LCD TV will be. That doesn't mean it's not worth the premium though. All depends on your usage. Your viewing conditions and what you value in picture quality.
For example, if you want to avoid motion blur oled is perfect. On the other hand if you watch news channels it's best avoided.
If you watch in bright conditions or with lights on, an lcd is better suited, but if you like to watch tv in the dark or with dim lighting oled is better.
Regarding your links really you should compare the higher tier Q90T or Q900T to the CX. The Q80T is more of a low tier model lacking picture quality compared to more expensive LCD TVs.

How do you even have Black Friday when it’s the traditional shopping day after Thanksgiving. Which you don’t even have?

Great reading, this, as I've promised myself a nice big telly when we convert the garage into a cinema room next year.
Until then, it's a reconditioned £280 Hisense for the living room.

Re: OLED v QLED
I always smile when I see TV adverts for improved standard screen definition when it is shown through my TV which has a lesser standard of screen quality. If my screen can discern the difference then it must surely be as good.

So that's why CT has nipped in for a new mouse!

Good knowledge shared.
I don’t need a new TV but great info.
Cheers

What do people think of the ambilight TVs from Phillips? Is it just a gimmick or is it as good as it looks?

AL, are you using it to just watch TV or are you planning to use it with a next gen console ?ClaretAL wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 6:48 pmApologies as I know there are lots of TV threads already, but i didnt want to hijack a thread.

If you’re in the market for a new TV, definitely consider the Philips OLEDs as they are as good as the competition and actually better in some ways because of the uniqueness of Ambilight.

Re: OLED v QLED
in which case you can't just pick any random TV - to get the best out of the new gen consoles you need HDMI 2.1 from everything I've read and researched - it's the reason I'm holding off on getting a new TV this year as there just aren't that many about. We are right on the cusp of technology change, my advice would be to wait until the new tv's early next year - personally I'll be waiting until next Black Friday

Re: OLED v QLED
Philips oleds are good but lack the HDMI 2.1 ports LG do.
Their motion is their strong point compared to LG but only motion in video, not computer games.
You can set ambilight to static white to help enhance the picture and reduce eye strain. But you can also fit USB led strips behind any TV do this. The flashy colour ambilight you may enjoy if you use the TV in darkness or you plan to sync it with other Philips lighting.

There is a law about that!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 10:36 amAnd it duly arrived, and the old mouse has worked perfectly since.
Always happens.
I had an opposite experience with the flasher unit on the tubelight in my garage. Didn't work for ages. Decided to try and see what I needed to order on the Internet, so fiddled about to see. Got off step ladder, by chance flicked the switch....yes worked ever since!
You now have a reserve. I bet the hew one is good!
