Wood and Jay were on fire last year, not sure why with the direct style we play, you wouldn't start your best header of the ball 🤷🏻‍♂️

As soon as Barmes starts, you can predict the style and tactics and it's been very ineffective thus far.

Why or (oh) why do we always have to have a negative thread about a player?

I don't read it that way. It's negative about our tactics not the individual.

Jayrod is a better footballer than Barnes and, in my opinion, should start every game before him. We simply play better football when Jayrod is in he team. But, Dyche prefers Barnes for some reason.

I don't think you will find any evidence of that. I am absolutely certain I have never started a thread criticising a player although I will reserve the right to make critical comment after a poor performance.

I agree that Jay Rod is a better baller, but Dyche plays percentages and Barnes is better for us winning second balls from the long pass out from the back. It’s as simple as that.

When Jayrod plays we don't play as many long balls out from the back, he is a much better link up player than Barnes. I prefer football to someone winning second balls.

Thought Barnes and Wood were outstanding tonight. Targeted the useless Alderweireld in the air (sadly he is brilliant on the deck). Wood held up the ball so many times. Barnes buzzed around him. Let’s not forget Spurs had two holding midfielders and four solid defenders, so hard for our attackers to find space. I felt Jay and Vyds wouldn’t have had a sniff.

The weakness tonight was on the left - nowhere near as good as we are used to.

No we didn't but I'm not sure that corresponds in any way at all with this thread title.

We've had a hell of a lot of good results when Wood & Barnes have played together and they've scored a lot of goals between them too when they've both been on the pitch.

So what has Barnes done to warrant waltzing straight back in? Jay will have to work his nuts off now to get his place back. One rule for his favourites another for others.

Have not got a problem him starting after all Jay was injured, and with Dyche you have to win the shirt back. The one thing with SD though he leaves the subs too late. Jay should have got 30 minutes as Wood and Barnes were living off scraps

What worries me more is that we get a lot of free kicks (largely through Barnes) in dangerous positions and we have not got a player who can hit it a deadly free kick on target. When did we last score directly from a free kick

Barnes played because we don't have much of the ball - he wins free kicks and enables us to get set pieces - pretty basic

I disagree. I was having this conversation with my brothers and I suggested bringing Jay on at around the 60 min mark. But we then had a really good 10/15 minute spell where we were well on top, culminating in Tarks' chance which was cleared off the line. They then scored quite out of the blue a couple of minutes later. It's easy to look back and say we should have made the change earlier but I don't think doing so when we were on top would have been the right move.

the way we set out to play, Barnes when fully fit does a remarkable job. I thought the same prior to promotion, and think the same now.
He is far more than nuisance value. Given time his goals will come. Also, he does so much more on the pitch when those around him are doing their job properly.
People talk of our solid defence, and lack of quality in attack. How about the sloppy defending against Son, it happened more than a few times even before he scored. Why single Barnes out as a weak link ?

Can see both sides of this argument.

Barnes is effective. Feel he works the back four hard. Physical and gets in to the channels. Last few weeks has brought good saves from the keeper and looked a bigger threat than Wood. Scored his (offside) goal.

Think we look far more sophisticated with JRod in the team and love him generally. Wonder if we’d have won with him on the end of a few of those long range chances.

Don’t mind Dyche starting Barnes but think JRod deserves more than 10 minutes.

Best I’ve seen us play this season but not happy with Dyche not getting Jay on earlier . Game as Wood and Barnes are JR is a far better option for snatching a goal in a close game . Wood at times looks almost devoid of anything but brawn

I thought exactly same. Thought at 65 was time for jay. But equally didn’t think we could justify bringing either of the front men off.

That said Barnes does has his limitations.

Although his offside left foot finish suggests otherwise.
