Well these clubs and people can't all be mistaken. Not heard one positive word about him, and the negatives aren't just little issues - they're pretty huge.
I think we can safely conclude that we don't want this bloke anywhere near our club, whether that's limited to brokering a deal between parties or taking a larger role in the running of the club. If Garlick really does sell up to this pair then I despair with Burnley FC.

Chris Farnell is the man brought in by Bury when they were already going under, that's what he does, he's a football lawyer.Charlton Boy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 9:11 pmThose of you still thinking and hoping this could turn out ok.
Chris Farnell was the man at bury when they went under.
The same man who failed the fit and proper persons test just months ago at Charlton. Next to no one ever fails that test.
Chaps please listen to Swansea, bury, Charlton, Salisbury fans. This will not end well.

Re: ALK Capital...
Being someone who loves football and Particularly loves Burnley , it would hurt very much to see the club I’ve invested into my life so heavily to be destroyed by someone like Farnell. Hearing the history of this man it is a horror show at best in my opinion! With ALK we were seemingly stepping into the unknown , with Farnell we are flirting with an entity which is highly familiar with disaster zones! Scary times !

Re: ALK Capital...
I said this earlier on the thread
Buying Burnley to asset strip isn't really worth it.
The club is operating perfectly well at the moment, whoever buys it won't be picking it up for a bargain price. Our training ground and stadium aren't worth much because they don't really have value beyond a training ground and stadium.
We have a few players who could be sold for big money but not really enough to make up the purchase amount. You could in theory sell off all of our players to get a hugely reduced wage bill, get the money in for the players and bank the Premier League money but the kind of firesale to do that is going to depress the transfer values.

Re: ALK Capital...
Depressing.
I've not been keen on the mooted ALK takeover from the off. That may be because I'm naive and don't know much about these things and I'm not savvy enough to know why it was necessary, but regardless I was making peace with it. Been dissatisfied with the spending and am not particularly fussed about Garlick either way, but I have to say the one thing that allowed me to talk myself around to it was the posts from some pretty sensible folk on here who seemed confident in the takeover and even some suggestion they may see genuinely be buying the club as part of a plan to invest in the area. I took some comfort in seeing the sensible folk being comfortable with the names of local businessmen being attached, too.
Then one day it turns out a restaurant owner with an unknown source of money who just happens to fancy owning a Premier League football team is taking over, using a lawyer linked to some of the biggest disasters in modern English football to help. A lawyer whose name inspired multiple Charlton fans to come to the forum with dire warnings.
Feels pretty much like my worst nightmare. We'll see.
My praise and respect to those such as CT who will do what they can in support/defence of the football club.

Re: ALK Capital...
There’s certainly a lot of negativity around this bloke. But I asked a couple of hours ago if anyone could provide any substantial information to back up the claims. There seems like a lot of hot air. That’s not to say there’s nothing in it, as they say there’s no smoke without fire. But I think the reaction to this has been over the top and based on gut instinct.
I also wonder what role he played with his involvement at various clubs. He’s a sports lawyer so is unlikely to be the man fronting anything up and could well just be a conduit. It’s quite likely that he’s had dealings with the club in the past.
Definite reasons for concern, don’t get me wrong. But that’s why I always say be careful what you wish for.

If people really think that they are good enough businessmen to have planned taking over a loss-making championship club, getting it promoted to the premier league and selling it for £200m then they must realise there are dozens of other football clubs who'd pay millions for those services.

Re: ALK Capital...
1. If an SPA has been signed, it’s binding. Done deal. If that is true, how can ALK’s proposal still be given consideration? Very bad reporting.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 8:52 pmBurnley in takeover talks after suitor Chris Farnell’s EFL ownership ban is lifted
Jonathan Northcroft, Wednesday October 28 2020, 5.00pm, The Times
A source close to the pair claims they are closing in on a deal, having provided proof of funding and concluded a sale-and-purchase agreement with Mike Garlick, Burnley’s chairman and main stakeholder, who owns 49.24 per cent of the club’s shares, after negotiations that have been underway for almost 12 months.
Farnell was cleared to pursue his bid for Burnley by an independent arbitration panel today, which ruled that an EFL ban on him owning a football club should be limited to five weeks, backdated to September 14.
Burnley declined to comment. However, it is understood that both the Elkashashy/Farnell bid and ALK Capital’s proposal are being given consideration.
2. Worrying if release of this news has coincided with Farnell’s EFL ban being overturned!! But just would not tie in with Garlick’s previous “right fit” comments.
Very Confusing.

Maybe this is jus the next step in our progression and Garlick would still be at the helm regardless

What does a 'football lawyer' do? It's a made up term. He's a lawyer who works for whoever is paying him - usually someone dodgy going by his track record.
There are massive red flags over his involvement, it would be very naive to ignore them.

In response to Daveisaclaret: Me neither, but it’s not going to last forever without a huge change in our financial backing. I reckon we should be a mid table championship side based on fan base and demographic. Maybe that’s where we will end up. Like is I said, at least some sort of change at the top will give us a bit more interest. Obviously I would hate to drop down and down the leagues and would never want that but we do have to be realistic.

This group seems to fit in more with Daniel’s comments pre-ALK, with reference to Egyptian interest. At that point he mentioned big money backing and interest in wider community links.
So, is this necessarily the bad outcome many seem to be portraying? There must be a reason this appears to be Garlick’s favoured deal, other than remaining at the helm.
I appreciate it’s human nature to worry, but let’s wait to see what the full story is.

I take your point , but I think its inevitable that whoever takes over will be heavily scrutinised and criticised by our fans.
Had it been other names mentioned, I rather doubt we would be whooping it up with party poppers.
Not long ago when supporters posted about potential takeover, it clearly divided opinion. Some were thinking we might be able to acquire better players if there was an influx of cash into the coffers. Others were sceptical based on shenanigans elsewhere in the leagues.I'm like you, I don't understand the finances at all, so I find it difficult to know whether this is potentially beneficial, or a recipe for disaster. One thing is, we had no say in affairs when the current regime took charge, we as fans just look on from afar at boardroom matters. And for all the flak flying about now, the club have progressed beyond our expectations despite control being in the hands of owners being vilified on here and other forums. We'll just have to sit this one out and pray we still have a club to follow in the seasons to come.

Perhaps hot air was the wrong phrase. I have only read fairly unsubstantiated stories where he is tenuously linked with clubs that have since declined. I haven’t really seen what his actual involvement has been. He’s also had involvement with Ronaldo and Martinez, and by the same token I won’t accredit their successful careers with him.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 10:07 pmThere’s more than hot air I can assure you. I presume you’re privy to more information than me so I’m happy to trust your word that his involvement is not good news. I would just like to know a little more information, particularly in what his role is in this potential takeover. For all I know he could be acting as an intermediary.

Can't believe anyone who thinks this is hot air or plays it down. Supporters from so many other clubs coming forward to us to proactively warn how dodgy this guy is and still people want to find our more facts and think it might just be stories.
Burnley FC is a huge part of all of our lives - why would we even consider getting into bed with someone like this. Even if his intentions this sixth or seventh time round were good, why on earth would we want to take that chance with that kind of track record.
Sad times.
