Mick McCarthy
Appointed manager of Cypriot club APOELhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54778793
How long he'll last there is another matter, they've had 12 permanent coaches since 2015, they make Watford look stable with that turnover.

What an absolute doozy of a job that is!
Top man is Mick - entertaining on commentary, what you see is what you get and an absolute gent when I met him at a do a while back.

You can understand why him and Roy Keane had a falling out do. Both say it how it is.

Not a bad job. Working in Cyprus managing a football team.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:08 pmWhat an absolute doozy of a job that is!

I met him once before we played Wolves some time back. He was at The Dunkenhalgh night before the game. I always liked Mick McCarthy. But he was very rude that evening and particularly about Burnley.
He was in the bar with his coaching team. Think Terry Connor was one of those with him. I took it as him not wanting to be disturbed night before we played them. But I was surprised at how unnecessarily arsey he was.
Still don't mind him per se. But saw a side to him you dont see in the media.

Surprised I have to say but maybe he was just in a bit of a mood, we all have those moments I guess.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:17 pmNot a bad job. Working in Cyprus managing a football team.

Re: Mick McCarthy
Absolutely. He was particularly uncomplimentary about Burnley as a place and as a club. Perhaps he was in a mood / winding up.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:22 pmSurprised I have to say but maybe he was just in a bit of a mood, we all have those moments I guess.
Ordinarily I like his opinion on things.
Re: Mick McCarthy
I can just imagine him, feet up on the beach, pina colada in his hand with a little brolly in, red as a beetroot

Re: Mick McCarthy
I used to attend post-match press conferences and you get an idea of what football managers are really like, people such as Ian Holloway, Warnock, Fergie, Big Sam, Wenger - all brilliant, even when they were beaten. They were a credit to the game. McCarthy on the other hand was an obnoxious pick, and I don't understand why - because his team played well. He was just dismissive of everyone in the room and just plain rude. When he left, everyone just looked at each others trying to figure why he behaved the way he did.
I take people as they come, and I think Mick McCarthy is a cock.

Re: Mick McCarthy
Isn't this the same Mick McCarthy who deliberately played a mainly reserve team against Man U (which he predictably lost,) so he could have a full strength team to play relegation threatened Burnley in the following fixture ? I think the Clarets were relegated and the rules were changed to prevent a reoccurrence of this kind of meddling. Even the Wolves fans at Old Trafford booed their own team when the saw that it was mainly a reserve team that had been put out. McCarthy's actions influenced both top and bottom of the table so all clarets should be slow to praise him as a 'top man.'

Re: Mick McCarthy
Pretty much exactly how he was with us. For no reason at all. We were at a family wedding and the wolves team just happened to be at the same hotelclaptrappers_union wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 4:29 pmI used to attend post-match press conferences and you get an idea of what football managers are really like, people such as Ian Holloway, Warnock, Fergie, Big Sam, Wenger - all brilliant, even when they were beaten. Re: Mick McCarthy
I think this is why he got so arsey and dismissive about Burnley with cricketfield....who I'm sure wouldn't have welcomed him with open arms! Basically embarrassed at the stunt hed pulled.claret59 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 8:03 pmIsn't this the same Mick McCarthy who deliberately played a mainly reserve team against Man U (which he predictably lost,) so he could have a full strength team to play relegation threatened Burnley in the following fixture ? Re: Mick McCarthy
No you’d think it was. But this was 2006 which is well before that game.
We had actually just tried to have general football chat with him. But he was totally rude. Only made a bit of small talk about the game and both clubs and comparing similarities between them and us. And he properly slagged us off as a no Mark town and club.
We got beat next day. Typically Jamal Johnson who they had just signed off rovers scored the goal.
We had woke some of the team up after McCarthy annoyed us. Remember banging on the door and waking up their left back Lee Naylor. But that didn’t work. They beat us 1-0.
