The club and ground are one entity, it was purchased back a couple of years ago from the company created by Kilby etc.

Why, want to buy it?

From Turf Moor amusingly.

Someone on here complained about the cost of a Twix on matchday, it then passed info folklore and became the financial level by which all other things are compared.

Ah, fair enough. I just started reading about it and wondered about the origin. Have we tracked it back to the poster who started it? As I'd like to bring my ham sandwich to the table.

Who owns the ground?
It's owned by Longside Properties. This is a company that was set up in 2004 and included Barry Kilby. It was set up with the specific purpose of buying Turf Moor and the training ground at Gawthorpe.

In early 2014, John B set up a fundraiser of kinds to raise money to buy them back. It was successful and you will see a list of those who contributed in the club programme. What happened was that a new company was set up called Burnley FC Holdings Ltd and that company now fully owns Burnley Football & Athletic Co. Ltd and Longside Properties. So in effect, the ground and the training ground are now owned again by the club.

For interest, the people who loaned the money to enable the club to re-purchase both the ground and the training ground are:

Ann Maitland
Brian & Sandra Nelson
David Sunter
Geoff Westmore
Harry Brooks
Jason Bannister
John Banaszkiewicz
Jon Ratcliffe
Mark Griffiths & Heather Brown
Martin Hobbs
Richard Sutton
Terry Crabb

It was only owned by Longside Properties until 2009 at which point Barry Kilby and John Sullivan sold the ground on to Lionbridge, an offshore registered company. In his own words Barry said he was "uncomfortable being landlord and tenant". I thought the Turf and Gawthorpe then returned to it's rightful ownership in 2013 after not inconsiderable problems.

Turf Moor forever!
So many grounds now have sponsors names but they are largely ignored by the supporters, provided the ground already had a name. As an example, despite having had countless different names, the Bradford City ground is still known as Valley Parade.

The problem only arises when new ground are built and immediately given a sponsors name such as we have at Bolton, Huddersfield and Stoke. The sensible clubs who did that included a name such as the Cellnet Riverside at Middlesbrough which just became the Riverside and Friends Provident St. Mary's which just became St. Mary's.

So anyone can come in and call it what they want for me, more so if it brings in big money, but I know what I will always call it and what it will always be to me and that's TURF MOOR.

Plus look at the demise of York City ever since they changed it to the Kit Kat stadium.
Rumours are they had big plans to go through the leagues and reach the Premier League where they would double the capacity of their ground and change its name to The Chunky Kit Kat Stadium....probably !!

The current badge is definitely not the old one. We have, in our history, had two club badges. The old one was from 1973 until 2010 and the current one has been the club badge since 2010.

No - it is a change to the old County Borough Coat of Arms which we wore on our shirts from 1960/61 until 1968/69 and then, for a one off, in 2009/10.

The first ever club badge was created in 1973 and the current one was adopted ahead of the 2010/11 season. They are the only two official club badges as far as I am aware.

So there was no badge prior to 1973?

The first official club badge was in 1973 although we had previously, in some years, worn the County Borough of Burnley Coat of Arms on our shirts - we definitely did that from 1960/61 until 1968/69. We did not have a badge on the home shirt then for a number of years, opting just for a BFC in one form or another. The club badge was first worn on a yellow away shirt and the first time it was worn at home was 1979/80.

The last time we wore the first club badge was in 2008/09. In the following season, because it was an anniversary kit, we wore the old County Borough Coat of Arms and then introduced the new club badge, the current one, which is very similar to the coat of arms, for the 2010/11 season.

The pics that Sid posted don't indicate otherwise at all, some of them are the old coat of arms, some of them are just BFC, the two club badges are as indicated in this post.

Longside Properties was sold to Lionbridge (a BVI company from what I remember), not just the ground (although the ground was owned by Longside).

I don't think the ownership of Lionbridge has ever been confirmed which is a little surprising.

Not really, if you look at the details you can see that it's owned by Burnley FC Holdings which is the club

Longside Properties was sold to Lionbridge (a BVI company from what I remember), not just the ground (although the ground was owned by Longside).

I don't think the ownership of Lionbridge has ever been confirmed which is a little surprising.
The directors of the company called Longside Properties today are:

Clive Holt
Mike Garlick
Barry Kilby
John Banaszkiewicz
Brian Nelson
Terry Crabb
Brendan Flood
Matt Williams

The most recent addition was that of Matt Williams (Company Secretary) in July 2016.

Yes, that's just the same as the parent.

The unknown spell is when, as Royboy refers to above, Barry Kilby and John Sullivan sold their shares to an overseas company with very opaque ownership called Lionbridge.

I’ve never understood the Lionbridge. I’ll see what I can find because one of my neighbours is listed as a previous director of Longside Properties.

Matt, the latest addition, is also the club’s company secretary.
