I'm assuming it is his first game back - just over 11 months since he suffered the injury

As said, the player who was at West Brom but left for Barcelona and then joined Villa in the next window meaning Villa didn't have to pay the compensation feel West Brom would have been entitled to had he gone straight there.Marney&Mee wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:22 pmsome great names in that Villa side !

Hmm sneaky move by Villa that one, they did have to pay Barcelona almost 900k for young Louie's services though, the best part of a million quid for an under 23 signing the world has truly goneClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:29 pmAs said, the player who was at West Brom but left for Barcelona and then joined Villa in the next window meaning Villa didn't have to pay the compensation feel West Brom would have been entitled to had he gone straight there.

The trialist at centre-back looks handy.
Until he scored I thought the 11 looked a bit lost. He did well for his goal.
Bobby Thomas looks a player.

Re: U23s v Villa
Got into the u23s in the second half of the 2018/19 season because of injuries. He'd been out on loan previously at a local non-league club and I didn't see much of a future for him. But he stepped up and really took his chance and the improvement in him over the next 12 months was outstanding.
I've only seen him play the once since last March and that was at Millwall in the League Cup. Alongside Jimmy Dunne and coming up against the likes of Matt Smith, I was worried for him. I didn't need to be, I thought he had an excellent game.
So, other than that, I've not see him play this season at all for the obvious reasons but delighted to hear he's playing well.

I thought he looked a better player than Dunne in the Millwall gameClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:56 pmGot into the u23s in the second half of the 2018/19 season because of injuries. Re: U23s v Villa
I've no doubt they would, still a crazy market for effectively an untried kid, I suppose the logic from the bigger clubs in particular is if they buy up enough young talent at least 1 or 2 will make it to their 1st team, so it's a percentage game they're playing, and if a majority fall by the wayside then so be it, there's always a chance if they don't make the grade at somewhere like Villa, then a lower league club will take a punt on them, we of course picked up Dwight from United, and Benson & Diallo from Arsenal.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:48 pmThey would have to pay West Brom a hell of a lot more for him though

Re: U23s v Villa
Bobby Thomas is one we need to tie down to a long contact if we can, his present deal runs out next summer, it's important we keep him beyond that, he's one that could breakthrough into the 1st team squad next season, especially if Kev Long finally decides to move on for regular footy.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:53 pmThe trialist at centre-back looks handy.

Re: U23s v Villa
Good comeback twice against a strong Villa side, it's always great when you score a goal in IT, feels like a victory almost, well done to the young Clarets on a hard earned point.

I'd say, on average, Villa players were slightly physically stronger and a bit faster on the ball but we showed spirit.
Some potential out there. Harker worked very hard up front. our 2 cbs were very good.
Much as I bemoan the loan system Benson and Glennon looked as if they've benefitted from their time at Grimsby.

Re: U23s v Villa
According to LiveScore the trialist who got the first was Owen Dodgson. Joined last month from Man U Academy, until Jun 2021.
Only 17 years old, so a big step for him.
Any idea why he's listed as a trialist on the match sheet, when he appears to be with us for 6 months at least. Or is it just my lack of knowledge as to how the trial period is run?

Other one I believe was Lewis Earl from PNE
