Re: RIP Tony Waiters
After a shaky start did a good job for us coming out of retirement to replace an injured Mellor. RIP.

RIP Tony.
A top class goalkeeper who played five times for England whilst at Blackpool. He was kind enough to answer an emergency call from us when Peter Mellor was injured and came out of retirement and played 38 league games for us.

As an autograph hunter way back in the day at Gawthorpe I can tell you that he drove a Ford Escort Campervan.

Re: RIP Tony Waiters
This is sad news. I saw him perform one of the best saves I have ever seen against Coventry city from an Ernie Hunt shot. RIP.

Re: RIP Tony Waiters
Great keeper. Magnificent after settling for us but I do remember him struggling to shift his goal kicks far enough. First saw him on The Turf 62/3 - one of a very few keepers to wear yellow ipv green.

Not quite an emergency call - he was already at Burnley.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:59 amRIP Tony.

Here's a short interview with Tony Waiters from a documentary which I came across a while back when he was manager of Plymouth Argyle.

He came over to Bowen Island to do a coaching school for us parents, a good man, great sense of humour. Also first keeper I saw when I started following the Clarets. RIP.

Re: RIP Tony Waiters
It would never happen in this day and age coming out of retierment at 34 to play in the top division.
I bought a bag that season with the Logo 25 years in Division One I had to throw it away as my work mates gave me stick every time I used it.Loved the footage in that Plymouth video some real footie on show.
R.I.P Tony.
