Re: Danny Drinkwater
It says a lot that no-one has apparently expressed an interest in Danny Drinkwater, he had a chance at Burnley, and then at Villa last season, and he flopped at both, TBH I'd actually forgotten he was still at Chelsea collecting his 100k a week, I'm sure Frank would like to see the back of him, but sadly for him DD is contracted until 2022, so it looks like Chelsea will be forking out for sometime yet.

These contracts are unbelievable. In most walks of life, if someone doesn’t cut the mustard, they would just have to go. Footballers seem to be in a class of their own. To be able to draw down that sort of wage and do nothing is absurd.

A 3 minute video is all he has left. Very sad actually and such a shame for an undoubted talent when he wants it.
Re: Danny Drinkwater
If he had any sense he’d offer to play for free for a smaller club to prove his worth

I should imagine when he hangs up his boots, he will be one of those characters that is suffering from demons.
He hasn't done himself any favours, and time must have run out for him to put things right.
From a football point of view it's quite funny, but on a humanitarian level its rather sad.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
He'll still have a PL winners medal to display, it's interesting to compare Drinkwater and Kante, the former has done little since that title win, well the latter has played a major role in another title triumph with Chelsea, and is still being linked to the major European teams, this highlights the difference in their mentalities, one was content with winning the PL, the other wanted to prove himself on a bigger stage, both of course ended up at Stamford Bridge, but that's where the similarities end.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:30 pmI should imagine when he hangs up his boots, he will be one of those characters that is suffering from demons.

Drinkwater hasn't done himself any favours, and like you CC, I can't see another club taking a punt on him, he's shown little to suggest he's up to the task of playing in the PL now. It's a pity but he won't be the first or the last to throw his career away after a promising start, I'm just glad that we only got him on a 6 month loan, if we'd have signed him to a 2/3 year deal, we'd have been saddled with a high earner who was bleeding our club dry.
Re: Danny Drinkwater
Dont blame the player although hes a waste of space. The club and whoever hired him within it. Agent did a great job.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:49 pmThese contracts are unbelievable. Re: Danny Drinkwater
Yep that's fair the clubs aren't forced to offer these 5 year contracts, or pay silly wages, fortunately for Chelsea they can absorb DD salary even if he's not offering them anything on the pitch.
I'll see DD and raise you Mesut Özil, another who's leeching from his club, but again they gave him the contract.
Re: Danny Drinkwater
‘Highlights’ video except there aren’t any highlights in the last 2 years. Loads of players can say they were once good. Loads of people in all sorts of walks of like can say the same. Clubs and employers need someone who is currently good ( and of course someone who can be ars*d)

Of course he can't play for anyone until January when the next window opens. But he's going to have to find a club sooner rather than later or his career will have well and truly gone down the pan.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
To be fair, he's probably made money at sitting in Chelsea's stand than he would've done having a more active playing career. He probably still thinks he is worth £100,000 a week though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 11:40 amOf course he can't play for anyone until January when the next window opens. Re: Danny Drinkwater
He’s not right in the head and is about League 1/2 level now.
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but it’s flabbergasting that both us and Aston Villa gave him another chance in the Premier League only last year. He was so far off the standard required it’s almost comical.

It wokrs both ways and the club offered that contract. Why should he walk away from it.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:49 pmThese contracts are unbelievable. On the subject of Danny Drinkwater. For all the negative press he gets I saw him recently at Chester Aquarium (queue joke of feeding him to the sharks). I didnt go over (social distancing and given he was with his family) but to me he looked like a normal guy, spending time with his family and being a decent dad with his little one.
Granted he has had some off the field issues.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
On the flip side I don't think many clubs would be happy to sign rolling contracts where players could leave and sign for another club on a free when they were playing well. You can't have it both ways.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:49 pmThese contracts are unbelievable. In most walks of life, if someone doesn’t cut the mustard, they would just have to go. It's such a shame. When we signed him I was so genuinely excited. That kind of excitement where my wife gets annoyed because nothing else makes me that happy. (not since the joey Barton signing).

DD returned to the Chelsea fold as their under-21 side lost 4-3 at Bristol Rovers tonight, how much has the mighty fallen, he won't be playing in the Papa John's Trophy again this season though, as defeat tonight sent Chelsea out, Billy Gilmour also played for Chelsea tonight, glad he's returning to action I really rate this kid.

I’ll forever be grateful to him for putting a shot wide of the target against us at Watford in 2011. That was the day jdrobbo challenged me to get as many Elton John song titles as I could into my match report.
So thank you DANIEL.

Grant 4 - should have saved the shot in the first minute (the one that went wide)

Shocker of a challenge, lucky he didn't snap his ankle. I'd say most players would have reacted if they could get up, I know I would.
