Haven't they just been bought by a mega rich consortium, they should be looking at howe who they wouldn't have to pay compensation for or as I think they will do is just give the job to Rooney

Derby have money to burn. They in that East Midlands area and have Plenty of time to turn their season around aswell.

I had the same conversation with a work colleague last week saying Dyche may abandon ship to a top or rich championship club if they match his wages.

If he were to go, I doubt he'd go mid season.

He'd be tasked with keeping them up, not sending them up and I don't think he'd want that right now.

If he goes to a Championship club it will be to take them up, not avoid relegation.

Derby fans would love him to go there. Fact. They are in takeover talks.

It’s been mentioned before whether true or not I’m not sure is that he qualifies for a bonus in January so I can’t see him going anywhere this year unless a really big offer came in.

With talk of a big takeover going through it's not as daft as it sounds. Has the appeal of being a lot closer to the family home as well.

1. I would doubt Dyche would consider a relegation battle at the bottom of the Championship

2. Isn't Rooney stepping up?

Would Dyche walk away from a Premier League job worth nearly £4m per year to join a team rock bottom of the Championship? Yeah, sure, why wouldn’t he?

I'd also be surprised if they don't give the job to Rooney. However I feel it would be a mistake.

Because perhaps he might feel the board aren’t giving him the support he desires & he doesn’t feel reassured about his future as he once did & fears staying could stamp relegation on his CV & the idea of a fresh opportunity excites him potentially with more promises & backing to fund a promotion charge.

Arn't Derby a so called sleeping giant?.....Dyche wont walk into another Premier League club but he could certainly take Derby places, many a club in the Championshipwho could offer Dyche a chance to take a big club up and thrive there,i think thats his route out of Burnley we will see.

I 'm pretty sure that now we're in a postion to actually start competing again in this league, Dyche would not contemplate going anywhere.
Derby would love him, sure enough, they have a poor squad but he would be the man to get them up.

Hypothetically speaking if Dyche went to Derby and we got relegated they never he would be in a much stronger position in 7/8 months time than he would be if he stayed here.

It’s not actually a bad team on paper, cocu wasn’t getting a tune out of them, that side should be nowhere near the bottom, sometimes you can look at a situation & think that’s deserved the only thing deserving is cocu getting sacked.

There are no jobs in the PL to walk into currently.

Wasn’t good enough for us according to a thread on here a few weeks ago so a move to a Championship relegation contender would make sense...

Not a Cocu fan but he had Bogle & Lowe sold out from under him then lost Waghorn to injury at start of this season. Probably inevitable with their league position.
I’d be amazed if SD went there. They are a minimum of two windows away from an average side. With no guarantees then.

I'll give you Derby, Forest, Sheff Wed & Stoke from that list, but the others no.

Boro- had a good run in the 90's and early 2000's, apart from one season at the top table since, when they were poor, they've done nothing of note for about a decade.

Birmingham- ditto Boro they had a few seasons at the top level, and won the League Cup I think, but since their relegation they've struggled big time in the Champ, on paper they should be a PL mainstay, but their finances are in a mess, and I doubt Sean would go there, unless they got major investment.

Norwich- similar in size to us I'd say, they regularly yo-yo between the Prem and the Champ, but they looked totally out of their depth last season, they do have a good youth system though, which should stand them in good stead for a few years.

Reading, Swansea & Watford no way are even of those 3 bigger than us, roughly equal maybe, but bigger no chance.

Surprised nobody's mentioned cardiff there average attendances are quite high & also had a stint in prem & usually in & around the playoffs, I'd say there are bigger than some of the clubs mentioned already.

Boro - used to throw money around but so what.
Stoke - not really.
Brum- unless you can explain why
Forest - living in the past, a long way back, I'd have to Google their last PL visit, was it even this century?
Derby - see above, but lowest PL points tally is amusing plus they annually bottle promotion from the championship.
Weds - Past again, but with a stadium in need of knocking down, I also can't remember when they last appeared in PL without googling.
Norwich - , nothing special about the Canaries
Reading - ah the premature pitch invasion specialists and that awful promo video when the Thais took over, truly embarrassing.
Watford - great at firing managers but that's it, not even sure their capacity is much bigger than ours, if at all, never finished above 10th in the PL, certainly never reached 7th.
Swansea - again nothing special

You're probably going to need to expand on what your workings are for all of the above being bigger than Burnley because there really isn't any justification that I can see.

I agree it's a poisoned chalice for whoever takes the reins, why would SD would go there when they're propping up the division, and in a financial mess, when he's already in a PL job which he's worked wonders in, if he went to Derby I would be genuinely staggered, doesn't mean he won't go somewhere, and it might even be this season, but Derby no I don't see the attraction for him, he's already proven he can manage at that level, so even if he eventually got them up, he wouldn't add to his standing in the eyes of most pundits.

And going to Derby isn't without risk for Sean, if he flops in his early months, they might not be as patient as the Burnley board was, remember it took SD about 8/9 months, and a proper pre-season to turn us around, with Derby's track record in hiring and firing, he might not be given that luxury there.

Sunderland are bigger than all of those mentioned, however I note they lost at home today in League 1 to MK Dons, and they are struggling for a 3rd/4th season to gain promotion, bigger is a relative term, history means nothing if your not doing the business on the park, how many years were we and Wolves pottering about the old Division 4, and reminiscing about the glory days of the 60's, well we lost at places like Crewe, Hereford, Rochdale & Torquay among others.

It's how you measure the term "bigger" historical success or present or simply the catchment area, the northeast isn't as saturated as the northwest, you've got newcastle, sunderland & boro really without disrespecting darlo & the pools, I know you are only using sunderland as an example, you are just simply stating how size is interpreted can be ambiguous & not definitive & I agree.

Just done some checking.

Forest dropped out the PL in 99
Sheff Wed in 2000.

So much bigger than Burnley that my eldest lad who's 18 has never seen these two play in top flight.

In fact the first time my 2 boys watched us play was against Forest was a season opener that finished in a draw

Has any manager ever left a club voluntarily that finished 10th in the premier league to go to a club who's bottom of the championship?

Dyche could make history here?

Yeah right.

Depends how you define a "big" club. Is it history, support, potential? I'd personally say both those two are still bigger clubs than us. Forest won the European cup as recently as the 80s and they both have bigger followings than us, despite struggling.

A whole generation has passed since they were last in the top flight.

Forest - those European cups are about the only things that separate them from Burnley, they've won less top flight titles, their purple patch was the 70's - 80's.

Weds - won a league Cup in 91, then you have to go back to 1935 for their previous silverware.

Attendance wise, Sheff Wed capacity is just under 40k, but they average mid 20k ish.

Forest can hold 30k, they do better in regards to retaining fans.

They don't have much competition do they in regards to locality of other similar sized clubs in similar leagues?

Weds do with Utd obviously, but after that it's what?

If he were to go, I doubt he'd go mid season.

He'd be tasked with keeping them up, not sending them up and I don't think he'd want that right now.
That would buy him another season. It would be similar to his early time at Burnley. Keep them up, then build on that. I can't see him being interested, though, but if he is it means he's really p1ssed off.
