The only way they are bigger is in fan base.
Financially he will have a smaller budget, most likely coaching worst players. Eddie has managed in the prem for 6 years, this is a step down in my opinion, he could probably end up somewhere like Leicester if he bides his time. Could see Rodgers moving to Man United or Arsenal soon

He’d get away with not coaching defence up there. I think they’d love him.

He'd be a success up there. They would score plenty and even with his defensive deficiencies they wouldn't be outscored by anyone other than Rangers at most.

If what we heard at the time of his departure from the Turf was right, the only way his wife will travel further north than Watford again would be with a pistol to her head.
Unless he commutes up there on his own.

Is being too pragmatic even worse?
If you need steady hands that is what I would be looking for. Pragmatic, listed in the dictionary as the opposite of Paolo Di Canio.

He will need to check that his passport is up to date when Scotland becomes independent. At least he will be able to sign players from the EU when Scotland rejoins the EU. Still a long way from sunny Bournemouth.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
Far be it from me to jump onto another Eddie Howe thread but for once I'll defend him and his wife. His return to Bournemouth was because of a family matter, nothing to do with his wife whatsoever.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 12:40 pmIf what we heard at the time of his departure from the Turf was right, the only way his wife will travel further north than Watford again would be with a pistol to her head.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
I would be surprised if he took this. That said it’s done other managers good in the past. A lot of reasons it may appeal. But I think he’s better than that. And I think the Celtic job is nothing to gain and everything to lose at present.
Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
He doesn’t need defending. Even if it was true and is wife didn’t want to move further north than “Watford”. He put is family and their happiness first. Which is far more important than football.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 2:52 pmFar be it from me to jump onto another Eddie Howe thread but for once I'll defend him and his wife. Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
I wasn't defending him really, merely pointing out that some theories are far from the truth. It wasn't anything to do with her and he was the one who wanted/needed to return south.
Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
I don't know for sure, but I doubt this specific family issue has gone away unless new provision has been made for it.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
I agree with Cricketfield, he has nothing to gain from going to Celtic.
He is far to good for them, and will fail in Europe because they are no where near good enough to compete.
Rodgers only took the job as a passport to Europe. He thought he was going to do a Jose ( Porto ) but isn't in the same league as Jose.
All in all, a job to give a wide berth to. He will land a far better job than Celtic come next season.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
I think his options will be limited to be honest. A top 6 club won't have a look at him, Everton will have Ancelotti. Then you're looking at teams like West Ham, Palace (if Roy retires).Nonayforever wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:17 pmI agree with Cricketfield, he has nothing to gain from going to Celtic.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
If Eddie goes to Celtic he'll have to win the title this season, with their present squad and the current form of Rangers that's looking a big ask.
If he comes up here and they don't complete the blessed 10 in a row he'll never be forgiven by the Celtic fans, might not be fair but that's the way it is in the Glasgow goldfish bowl, funnily enough plenty of Rangers fans wanted rid of Gerrard in the summer, and now he's being idolised, it's a fickle game to say the least.
If Eddie wants to stay in the South of England there's not many choices right now, maybe Palace at the end of the season, but I don't know if his style would suit them, West Ham would probably be a better fit, but if Davie Moyes keeps churning out the results they'll surely have to keep him, so Eddie doesn't have an obvious destination, a real break from the game well likely do him a world of good, and there's always the chance that the England job will become available after the Euro's.

England jobs definitely a possibility. I also think plenty of clubs in the premier league would take him and he’d go there.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
Good luck Celtic.
I’d far rather he hung around for the next premier league job though. Keeps SD at Burnley and pretty much guarantees us a 6 pointer.
Also, wonder how many of his coaching staff will join him or stay at Bournemouth.

In the south, he would be welcome at Portsmouth and Yeovil!
Salisbury wouldn't say no.
A shoo in at Poole!

That’s cos they never played us , ask Newcastle , Sunderland , Seville etc what rangers are like, no different .
I loved that Celtic game by the way . What a night. The return leg was great too, plenty went up there and the Celtic fans couldn’t have been friendlier .

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
8 years on & perhaps Eddie & his family could be at a place in their lives where they would consider another move away from their life on the south coast. Not sure if it would be a good move for him though. The balance of power maybe shifting in Glasgow & he wouldn't last long if he doesn't look like delivering a title.
I think he will stay put & go to a commutable club. Palace, Fulham, West Ham, Brighton, maybe Watford.

Watford might be a good call seeing as he's lost his backroom staff.

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
I can't see Lennon lasting long after tonight's shambles, Celtic have just crashed out of the EL with a 4-1 loss at Sparta Prague, and reading the updates they where lucky it was only 4, Eddie would be crazy to go there now, they have a big rebuilding job on their hands who ever takes charge, it'd be a poisoned chalice, and Rangers are going like a train, so even the league is looking out of Celtic's reach ATM.

If Lennon gets the push, which after yesterday is surely only a matter of time, then Gordon Strachan is being lined up to return according to the Scottish media. Out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind.

You loved it????? I was in the middle of the Longside with my dad. It was absolutely terrifying. People were being hit by thrown whisky bottles, and there was a lot of blood. Our lives were in danger. I'm not joking.Dixie Normous wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 2:15 amThat’s cos they never played us , ask Newcastle , Sunderland , Seville etc what rangers are like, no different .

Re: Eddie Howe linked with Celtic
Well I’m Scottish so got away with a lot that night , I’d been Burnley since age 8 so I had to put on my accent just to get through the bee hole to the long side . It was rough yes but pretty normal for a Scots lad . Whittlefield was a rough area but they had never seen wee boys like us with knives and axes . Tiny Toddy rule ya bass !
