Bene n Hot Chocolate for Supper - Recipe Here

Post by Rowls » Sat Dec 12, 2020 12:31 am

Take half a measure of benedictine and pour into a mug.

Mix in 1 heaped teaspoon of good quality cocoa powder.

Stir together the Bene and cocoa powder.

Fill the mug up to two sips below being full with full fat milk (you can use skimmed milk if you must). I highly recommend gold top if you can get it.

Place in the mee-cro-wav-eh for 1min 30 seconds or until piping hot.

Drop two squares of chocolate into the hot mug and stir until dissolved. Dark chocolate works best but I'm looking forward to trying it with the new(ish) Cadburys "darkmilk" variety when I get back to the UK.

Top up with the second half measure of Benedictine.

Also works wonderfully with brandy, which is how I take it, but I thought that Bene would get more attention on a Burnley website.

Enjoy on a cold night in front of the dying embers of a Winter fire.

Good night everybody, God Bless!

That sounds nice and healthy for a diabetic like me - and I find Bene too sweet. :D

No added sugar whatsoever if you substitute the brandy in for the Bene, Tony.

edit - except for the chocolate of course but dark chocolate is relatively low in sugar ...

Are you making these at the bar? I wouldn’t fancy it with a Scotch Egg!

You lost me at Benedictine I'm afraid.

Sticking cocoa powder in it doesn't appeal either. :)

Just tried out your recipe, Rowls.

I wasn't convinced after the first. Tried a second: better. By the third I was singing at the top of my voice

"Every One's A Winner (That's The truth)".

Mrs Sarum has since put the bottle of Benny in a safe place.

Doesn't heating it in the microwave after the first Bene shot's gone in evaporate the alcohol out of it?

You’ll lose a small amount of alcohol, yes. That’s why you put in two half measures rather than one.

Imagine how much that would cost at the Bene Bar on the Turf ?
May nearly eclipse the price of a Twix.

You need a full on winters day Steve, the kind where you snot does not just run from the cold but is threatening to freeze before it drips...

That is when you discover the magic that is Beni and hot water. After that Beni is king... and you can. Experiment with things like holy brandies and beni and black. Lovely. Cannot wait for my annual Christmas bottle.

It is beginning to feel a lot like Beni....

My Recipe

Throw the milk away
Throw the chocolate away
Throw the sugar away

Pour Bene in a glass, add a shot of almost boiled water, and drink, no need to mess about with it.

I love my whiskey and whisky but for the real winter chill the warmth of Beni is beyond compare. No wonder the Tommies kicked the huns ass :D

My Dad’s mate David Cooper always used to make the second half more interesting than the first with his little hip flask. Sadly left us many years ago, along with a chunk of the match day fun. Great times.

I'm another one who doesn't get the love for Bene'n'hot. It's far too sweet for me, a bit like cough medicine.

If you want a Christmas treat, add a few glugs of Bene to a mug of mulled wine. It tastes sublime!

Exactly! I've never touched Benedictine outside of Turf Moor and for the most part they've been drunk at half time, during mid-week matches in January and February; those are the ones most often designated as being a 'Bene Game'

Never really been tempted!

I imagine it tasting like Mulled wine or something similar?
