Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
A bit like Leicester, you don't take on the senior players. He left Deeney out today for disciplinary reasons, apparently left him as an unused sub.

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
How on earth can they justify a bonkers decision like this ? I suspected it had to be a disciplinary matter because it's definitely not a football one.
Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
You absolutely should take on the senior players if they're not doing it right. What's the alternative? Just let them get away with murder?
What you need is the backing of the board if you're taking on lazy senior players with over-sized egos. Watford's board don't exactly have a history of backing their manager though.

I wasn't saying you shouldn't take on the senior players, just that at some clubs it inevitably leads to your departure.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 7:58 pmYou absolutely should take on the senior players if they're not doing it right. Yes, sorry, I knew what you were saying, I didn't mean it to come across as having a go there.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 8:00 pmI wasn't saying you shouldn't take on the senior players, just that at some clubs it inevitably leads to your departure.
What chance does a manager have at a club like that though. They'll never have authority over the group if the senior players know they can get the manager sacked should they take a disliking to something. Any manager looking to go in there now would have to be daft or desperate. Mind you, the pay-off wouldn't be so bad.

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
Telegraph has a piece on this timed about half past 7 this evening https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/20 ... hs-charge/
"Watford manager Vladimir Ivic is facing the sack after just four months in charge, following the 2–0 defeat at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, their fourth loss of the season.
Appointed in August on an initial one-year contract, the Serbian was charged with the task of guiding Watford straight back to the Premier League following their relegation last season.
Ivic was the 12th permanent head coach owner Gino Pazzo has hired in the last eight years, following the dismissal of Nigel Pearson before the end of the last campaign.
Yet there have been frequent rumours of friction with the squad and it now appears the 43-year-old will leave Watford in the next 48 hours.
Ivic took the decision to drop skipper Troy Deeney for alleged discipline issues ahead of the game at Huddersfield.
When asked on Deeney's absence from the starting 11 Ivic said: “He didn’t start because he played a lot of full games recently.
“I believe that he wasn’t ready to play from the beginning but the reason he wasn’t able to come on was a discipline issue.”
When asked if Deeney had a future at the club, Ivic added: “I don’t know, we will see.
“It’s between us and I don’t want to speak about this. I’m the coach and I know what is my responsibility.”

One of the horses I own is in partnership with a few people who are Watford fans. Messaged them tonight, they say that the football is terrible, anti football at best, and they think he should have been sacked a month ago.
Maybe the chairman, fans and club are well suited,.

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
Like Arteta at Arsenal right now, had a fight with Luiz, frozen out Ozil and treated Pepe differently to Xhaka. Didn’t Laws have the same problem here?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 8:00 pmI wasn't saying you shouldn't take on the senior players, just that at some clubs it inevitably leads to your departure.
Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
Surely the problem lies with the Board or the Owners if they do the hiring. I nearly said they are "fast becoming" but I'll change that to "they are" a laughing stock.

yep, reported on The Athletic 10 minutes ago now https://theathletic.com/news/vladimir-i ... kaPtxaYgvW
An official statement on the club website read: “Watford FC confirms the departure of Head Coach Vladimir Ivić with immediate effect. Ivic’s coaching staff will also be leaving Vicarage Road.
“The Hornets thank Ivić and his staff for their efforts this season and wish them well for future success elsewhere.
“No further comment is available from the club.”

Lengthy statement from Watford on the matter, it reads:

Ivic’s coaching staff will also be leaving Vicarage Road.
The Hornets thank Ivić and his staff for their efforts this season and wish them well for future success elsewhere.
No further comment is available from the club.

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
When Everton approached Watford for Marco Silva in late 2017, they refused them permission to speak to him and said at the time that they never changed manager during a season. Since then all of Marco Silva, Javier Gracia, Quique Sanchez Flores, Nigel Pearson and now Vladimir Ivic have departed during a season.

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
It is players that get managers sacked though if we are honest. Fans may not like what is happening, however, once the players start to kick up the manager is on a loser ---unless he sorts the bad eggs out before they sort him!

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
I did laugh at this in the Watford Observer tonight. It referred to the issues with Deeney and then said of the sacking.
"Whether or not those "discipline issues" played their part in him losing his job remains to be seen, but performances, particularly this afternoon's, will have certainly played their part. While Watford are in the playoff places, more was expected from the head coach, with the club hoping to avoid the uncertainty of the playoffs and be promoted automatically this season.
The news comes just over a week after he was named Championship manager of the month for November."

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
It didn't really work for Watford.
Highest PL finish was 11th.
They've ended up going down and have just sacked a manager who seemed to be doing OK.
Side note, I'm not really sure why the media bother labelling the man in the hotseat as a permanent appointment...
Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
Shock news from Watford would be the manager keeps his job.

Re: Big shock news set to come out of Watford
Been reading a Watford forum thread about Ivic’s time there. It all starts with a joke thread called ‘Ivic out’ on the day of his appointment... but it’s clear the fans felt the guy was out of his depth.
They comment on the same tired tactics, questionable substitutions, poor performances but mainly how he was constantly blaming players in post-match press conferences.
There’s a lot of player power involved, but they’re not keen on Deeny’s part in the whole situation either.
All that said, 5th in the League and Manager of the Month... then sacked.
