The BBC who have lost the rights to basically every sport

But Hamilton, as far as I can see, has no discernible personality.

I'm a massive fan of Ronnie but was surprised when he was in the mix. Him winning it is like shelling peas. I think it has to be someone who had done something for the first time.

Re: Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton
I think I need to look into the history of this and it's something I've not really done.
What is the actual definition of this award? Because Ronnie is a great snooker player but has feck all personality. I've seen enough of Lewis Hamilton to know he's a few brain cells short as well. So what actually makes the winning personality part of the sport?
Or is it somthing that's lost its meaning over the years and any bugger can win it?

The word ‘personality’ in this context is not referring to the person’s character.

The guy with the biggest achievement of the year wins it. He was the obvious winner. A very talented sportsman and a fantastic driver..albeit in a car streets ahead of the rest.
The one with the least personality however.

Re: Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton
Programme has got gradually worse every single year - despite the fact the budget and number of presenters seems to going up at a similar rate to Covid cases in Kent !
It’s nothing to do with personality - never has been. It’s supposed to be about the person who has achieved the most in sport in the year. Many times in the past the winner has been in the more ‘popular’ sports rather than actual remarkable sporting achievements.
At the end of the day it’s the British public voting - who knows how many of them are real sporting fans who take this seriously in terms of weighing up the actual candidates ? Probably a small fraction.
I love most sports - so used to watch it just to see some of the highlights of the year rather than who was going to win it. I don’t do that anymore because it’s outweighed by how annoying the presenters are and their ridiculous banter / segways.
So it is what it is - entertainment....or not as the case in the last few years.
As for Lewis Hamilton winning it - I couldn’t be less interested. Holly Doyle or Ronnie winning it would have at least been a breakthrough for the former and deserved recognition for a genius for the latter....but neither were ever going to win it.

Cheers Riley. I couldn't be arsed looking it up and I know it's something I should know, but it just passed me by.

Re: Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton
I agree with a lot of that. It did used to be a lot better as a show and seems a bit awkward these days. The popular sports dominate probably as they are the sports in the public eye..naturally. Which is a shame as some of the achievements in less popular sports are often as impressive. I like to think i have a passing interest in horse racing but i have to admit not knowing who Holly Doyle was. She must have had a very quick rise to fame. I know of Hayley Turner and Bryony Frost but her name is new to me. Then again i have taken my eye off the sport this last year.TVC15 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 11:06 pmProgramme has got gradually worse every single year - despite the fact the budget and number of presenters seems to going up at a similar rate to Covid cases in Kent !

A sad , tired and dated programme gives some people the opportunity to preen their high horse, holier than thou whiskers!
At least it still serves a purpose for some.. Fair play......

I guess it depends on your own opinions.
The only way your point stands true is if you believe he faked his depression. Which would of course open a small can of worms.

As per my post above, I like Fury and I admire his achievements in boxing. I am also capable of judging Hamilton (the most successful F1 driver of all time) by the same merits, unlike some other people. I just wonder what makes Fury more of a ‘real man’ than Fury.
