Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
I often wonder who benefits from all the fines. For example, I think the Lancashire Football Association is able to pay all or most of their salaries from fines paid by amateur footballers for yellow/red cards.....

Couldn't he have just sent someone else into the bookies with the money like I did when I was a kid?

Can the FA ban him from playing for Atletico and if so, won’t Atletico just appeal?

I'd clam I'd been brainwashed into it by the 24/7 assault on my hearing and vision by these companies
It's bad enough at home, imagine all the corporate/sponsor events and **** centering around it at work if you're a footballer

Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
There was an Oliver Kay article in The Athletic about it when the news first broke in May.
He makes a good point
He makes a good point
It not as though he couldn’t tell anybody he was moving to Madrid. If they then place a bet surely that isn’t on TripperHe told a small group of friends, informally, that it looked more and more likely that he would be heading for Madrid. If some of those friends then put money on him joining Atletico, does that merit an FA disciplinary charge? Isn’t it an issue between bookmaker and customer, rather than between footballer and Football Association?
Just like back in 2005, Hughes finds himself bewildered. He is still prominently involved in the game and is entirely on-board with the anti-gambling regulations, but he is not alone in questioning the legitimacy of those particular betting markets, which relate to managerial appointments and transfers.
“I don’t know Kieran Trippier, but if he’s going to Atletico Madrid, what’s he supposed to do? Not tell anyone?” asks Hughes. “Those markets are ridiculous anyway. Any market that can be controlled shouldn’t exist.”

He could certainly have been selective with who he told. Is it much different than people working on the stock exchange insider trading?

Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
There should be no market for bets on managerial appointments or player transfers. If betting companies want to open a book then the risk should be on them.

Exactly. When West Brom sacked Bilic it was obvious who was going to take over, yet you could still bet on Big Sam.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 5:34 pmThere should be no market for bets on managerial appointments or player transfers. The worrying thing is that there are BFC club staff who have openly admitted on social media that in there opinion, “There’s no harm in it...” and “... there’s no reason why (charity work and gambling sponsorship) they can’t go hand-in-hand!”

Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
Trippier may well have only told a very select few people. One of those people tell a few more and before you know it he's in the middle of this case with accusations of wrong doing. He can't agree to move to a foreign country without putting his affairs in order and involving a dozen or so people at least. Madness that he's been hit with this ban if indeed that's the extent of his involvement and all information suggests that's basically it.

Good lad is tripps. I used to see him down the spa at Crowwood most nights. Usually with a different girl with him. His brother a top lad as well. Spitting image of him. He used to drive him around. I also use to see him at my neighbours house now and again until my neighbours left burnley in may 2018. Has one good day out with them all in Manc. Top lad and superb footballer.

He's currently without a club, which is coinciding with his longest injury free period for a long time.

Madrid are seriously backing him, they will take this to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if it's not over turned.
Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
From what I read about the so called betting activity it seems pretty spurious the whole thing so I fully expect the verdict to be overturned.

Seems to be more they think it’s unfair that they are being disadvantaged. he told his mates he was going to Madrid, he didn't get any financial gain - they are basically charging him with telling his mates he is changing where he works - it's a nonsense chargeBurnley Ace wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 9:15 pmSeems to be more they think it’s unfair that they are being disadvantaged. Don’t know the full details of the case but I’m pretty sure he would not have been investigated or charged for “telling his mates he is changing where he works” - unless those mates then used that information to make bets on Tripps new club !Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 10:04 pmhe told his mates he was going to Madrid, he didn't get any financial gain - they are basically charging him with telling his mates he is changing where he works - it's a nonsense charge
And that’s not me speculating whether he is guilty or not but you do seem to be missing out the betting element out of your version - of which there must have been some bets placed

You would think the betting companies would have something in place to claim back any winnings paid out through inside info.
Everything else is in their favour.

As has been touched on above, I think the bookies should stop taking bets on stupid markets like that. Its ridiculous to expect someone to keep quiet to friends and family about moving jobs just because you want to gain money from his transfer. It’s actually madness when you really think about it.
Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
IMO if the bookies have a market for that type of bet they should expect to get fleeced for insider info, it’s not like they’re short of cash and in all honesty I like it when someone takes advantage of bookies like that, as it serves them right.
You may realise, I’m not a fan of bookies, they prey on the dreams and aspirations of weak minded poor people more than anything else.

If you were offered a job in another country, would you be able to simply move there with your young family without discussing it with anyone?
Even if you didn’t tell your friends, you would at least have to tell your parents.
Re: Ten week ban for Trippier
I can only comment on what I've read but to me It doesn't matter how you gloss it up its against the rules. If he did tell team mates which club he was moving to and they placed bets on it then it's not allowed, it's giving them an advantage.

REVEALED: Trippier's WhatsApp messages that led to his 10-week ban
Hope that link works.
Shows details of his messages, one friend put two £22 bets on and one £300 bet.
Seems extreme a ten week ban. The way it reads the deal wasn’t quite over the line and could still have broken down.
