Escape to Victory

Post by Inchy » Wed Dec 23, 2020 9:51 pm

Without doubt the greatest Xmas tradition over the years.

However, over the past few years it’s been relegated to ITV4 at some obscure time. Last year it wasn’t even on! I have bought the DVD now to ensure I can get my fix on Xmas day.

It’s a bloody joke.

Is the great escape even on this year?

I must say the dilution of Christmas TV over recent years has been troubling. Most things I like are on, but finding them Is nigh on impossible.

I find the search facility on the TV guide on the screen very helpful 🤔

Has to be Oliver! And the Wizard of Oz for my generation.

Both of which I have on DVD in case they ever stop showing them.

* it changed to the Regal when they put in 2 screens in the 70's

It's A Wonderful Life is on Channel 4 soon. Very sad, but I can't watch it without crying at the end.

Another shout for "It's a Wonderful Life"
Gets me everytime no matter how many times I have seen it.
Strange to think it was considered a flop at the time of release I believe.

Usually about 1/2 an hour after Christmas dinner there is a sound of something (not really music) and its definitely wind (going somewhere)

Not strictly Christmas films but always get an airing this time of year, Zulu and the Alamo.

The Alamo is just so dull. Nothing happens for two and a half hours until the final battle when just about everyone gets killed. I defy anyone to sit through it and say that it was good.

Netflix is rubbish. My son came round earlier and installed his subscribed Criterion Channel on my computer. i don't know how he managed it as it is an American channel which seems difficult to install from any other country. But you should see the quantity and quality of the films featured. Check it out. Look for the Criterion Channel and you will be amazed.

great escape is utter nonsense, escape to victory is horrendous, and its a wonderful life has recently become a trendy film title, its been around for decades, and there was little or no interest in it. Baaaaaah !

Back when I was a kid in the early 80's. Digby- The biggest dog in the world and The cat from outer space seemed to get regular Christmas airings. Looking back they were awful films. Had to explain to the wife about Digby as she'd never seen it.

I'm 90% certain that's the film in which there is a scene of them rowing their galley along the Ancient Greek coast and a truck can be clearly seen driving along the coast road in the background

Wrist watches in Ben Hur ... Aeroplane con-trails in Westerns ... loads of that sort of thing in movies missed by the editors and continuity guys

The Italian Job - C4 at the moment. I forgot how crap and brilliant at the same time this film is... it’s essentially a Benny Hill chase in minis

“You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off”
