Benson
Seen a few people on social media suggesting he is starting tomorrow. I’m assuming one of Brady or McNeil must be injured.
Has anyone heard anything similar?

Re: Benson
It sounded like Brady was more likely to be starting than McNeil, so wouldn't be surprised if McNeil is out. Brady left, Brownhill right.

Never normally see anything about people starting on social media. So can either assume it’s a load of crap or there is something in.
I wouldn’t mind giving him a go against Leeds.

Re: Benson
Brady hasn't been out injured for 3 or 4 games so he is due a spell in the stand with his mate JBG. The one who went off at half time v Palace and were told it definitely wasn't an injury, only for him to be out injured ever since. Ideally we off load one or both of them in January and replace them with players who aren't made of glass.
Re: Benson
McNeil must be due an injury. He's pretty much played every league game since he broke into the team 2 years ago.

Re: Benson
Brady has earnt his starting place on the left if so, hoping he kicks on from here with more goals and assists.Mcneil will have to earn his place back again in the team after a wonderful start in 2018. Healthy competition I would say.

That’s far from ideal. Could do with being at full strength for Leeds.

I think when Dyche says he’s “waiting on news” or “possible” he means out for three weeks!!FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 9:14 pmPossible, doesn't sound promising enough unfortunately.
Hopefully he’s back on the grass soon!
Re: Benson
It’s also possible we could have Jack Cork back in the squad.

Re: Benson
We would certainly miss McNeil, our creativity is bad enough already.
Here's a thought, if McNeil is out, we don't want to get into a punch for punch, toe to toe game against Leeds or we will lose. How about picking a defensive midfield with one up front:
Pope,
Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor,
Brady, Brownhill, Westwood, Pieters, Barnes,
Wood.

If Josh starts I hope everyone gets behind the young man... he was done like a kipper for that penalty last week .

Re: Benson
Correction it was after he had missed an absolute sitter. But the point still stands. We were told JBG wasn't injured, by your good self I do believe. The time when I said we needed 3 players on the right to get to 90 minutes after Brady went off injured after about 10 minutes. We have not seen JBG since he went off in that game.....

Re: Benson
Not sure what missing a chance has to do with this but just to confirm that you weren't told by my good self and if I said that I was only repeating what the manager had said. To suggest we haven't seen him since is also incorrect. He's been on the bench and played in two games at Gawthorpe including one this week. The manager has said repeatedly that he's not injured but they are just being careful with him.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 10:49 pmCorrection it was after he had missed an absolute sitter. Was on the bench v Wolves.
Not suited to us though, and I don't think we'll be seeing much of him at all barring an injury crisis.

Re: Benson
"That’s not the case at all, we didn’t need three. We picked up one injury. JBG was not injured."
Exactly what you said after the Palace game. And JBG has played zero minutes for the first team since. Sitting on the bench means diddly squat, we have had 2 keepers on there more than once and they had as much chance of playing as JBG did. And kick abouts at Gawthorpe count for the same.

Re: Benson
If McNeil and Brady are injured I'd go
Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Westwood Benson
Brownhill
Rodriguez Wood Barnes
Same formation we played at Villa in the second half last season just with Brownhill in the attacking mid position instead of McNeil.

Re: Benson
If McNeill is out then would expect Pieters to cover
Hope to see Cork on the bench and if Brady is injured then Stephens into the middle and Brownhill wide right (assuming JBG not considered)

Re: Benson
If McNeil is in doubt give him a rest today and save him for the next 2 home games which are massive 6 pointers.

Re: Benson
How’s he not entirely suited to us ? 30 plus, good pro, bags of experience ? I would have thought that is much closer to the blueprint than Benson. I’d be surprised if Benson started. Screams Stephens or Pieters with Brownhill out ‘wide’.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 11:40 pmWas on the bench v Wolves.

It’s a pity somebody doesn’t start a thread about Josh Benson, then we can discuss his involvement in today’s game, instead of going round and round in circles AGAIN! about JBG and Brady’s injury problemsHerts Clarets wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 8:16 pmBrady hasn't been out injured for 3 or 4 games so he is due a spell in the stand with his mate JBG. Re: Benson
That team is a good option if we have the injuries confirmed but I do wonder with Leeds still playing like a gung ho championship team if the inclusion of Vydra, who scored well in that league, would be an effective weapon against them when they all attack flat out leaving their defence exposed.
Along with this I think we need a true 4 man midfield
Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Benson Brownhill Westy Pieters
Wood Vydra
Jay Rod, Barnes & Stephens in reserve

Re: Benson
If Cork is anything like fully fit, I can't see him being behind Benson for a minute.
It'll be 442..no doubts at all..with Pieters first in line to replace any injuries in midfield.

Re: Benson
Don’t know why you want to replace Barnes with Vydra, after Barnes’s contribution in the last game. Especially when Leeds are so suspect in set piece situations

Re: Benson
No issue with Barnes, just a thought on what Leeds may be susceptible to and thinking whilst attacking flat out they leave themselves exposed to the counter and Vydra is our fastest player, on set pieces there is Wood Tarks and Mee and even Pieters

Fair do’s, but I can’t wait to see Barnes Wood Tarks and Mee, causing havoc from corners and free kicks!BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 27, 2020 9:58 amNo issue with Barnes, just a thought on what Leeds may be susceptible to and thinking whilst attacking flat out they leave themselves exposed to the counter and Vydra is our fastest player, on set pieces there is Wood Tarks and Mee and even Pieters

Re: Benson
I also think Dyche overplayed Barnes on his return from injury, and that showed in some of his performances but when rested he came back in and played very well.
I could suggest Barnes in and Vydra on the hour, but you know Dyche is liable to put Vydra on too late on 82 minutes when Barnes had been running on empty for 20 mins

I'd say Barnes and Wood is an automatic choice. One that SD won't even be thinking about. It's the midfield that I'm waiting/hoping on.

You may be right on the injury to Vydra, his back I think.
He wasn’t on the bench at Wolves
You do wonder if there’s more to that with the Jan transfer window coming up
I’d be more than happy if we beat Leeds the way you suggest

If Brady is also out, then it's square pegs in round holes, assuming JBG can't start.

I keep thinking that Pieters at LB and Taylor pushed up is a possibility but I’d expect to get a Capital letter telling off from some for that suggestion

I'd be very very surprised if SD put Benson right midfield, although it's not a bad idea. Brownhill has made one of the most (or the most?) interceptions.BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 27, 2020 10:17 amLike most I don’t want Brownhill moved out wide so I’d put Benson in for the energy against Leeds

SD suggested positive news regarding McNeil, and I think if we didn't have another game for a week, he'd play. It's the fact we have another 2 winnable huge home games coming up which will undoubtedly be on his mind.
