Points over Peformance
That's how I took the win tonight.
Sure, the performance wasn't great, but tonight - it really was never going to be about that. It was about facing a team who were fighting for their absolute lives and would do anything to get their first win. They were always going to perform at their maxmum to get something from the game.
We didn't play well - and we won. Another big game next so we get the points, thank you very much, and move on.
I hope Taylor and McNeil are back soon.

Re: Points over Peformance
It was the polar opposite of the Leeds game. And I’d take that.

Delighted with the result. Just gutted to see Charlie Taylor go off and praying he's okay

Re: Points over Peformance
Sometimes you have to dig a result out over the course of the season, Leeds did exactly the same to us on Boxing Day, all that matters is the table, and we're slowly climbing up it.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 7:59 pmThat's how I took the win tonight.

Let's get our injured players back, hopefully recruit a couple in January, and then we've got a chance of kicking on in the 2nd half of the season.
It's night's like this that gives me confidence that'll we'll be fine, we had to grind it out in the 2nd 45, and we did, as we often do, I'm not convinced many of the other strugglers will be able to ground out the results like we can.
Re: Points over Peformance
Credit to Wilder as well. Not just for a respectful post match interview but also for his approach in respect of their Covid issues - a polar opposite to that of Man City with a far bigger and better squad.

When you are where we are at the moment... Short staffed on the team sheet... injuries etc etc ... of course its points over performance.
It aint rocket science

Re: Points over Peformance
Spot on. Completely agree with the OP. That gap between Burnley and the bottom three just keeps getting bigger. I think now that Sheffield Utd look doomed. Plenty of pretty passes in the final third, but are not clinical and do not have cutting edge. As for Burnley, a typical Dyche like performance. No complaints at all. UTC.
Re: Points over Peformance
I don’t care about our performances this season at all providing we pick up the required points, after the window and our start I feared the worst.

Re: Points over Peformance
Another team to leave the Turf wondering how they lost .. They got Burnleyed.
Re: Points over Peformance
Not pretty to watch, not at all.
Remember Stan sitting back on 1-0 too many times in the past, you knew what was coming, but Dyche really does know what he's doing in these situations. A few long range efforts from them, nothing more.
Just not pretty to watch.

Yes, at the moment points over performance but the injury list is growing, not getting better. That for me is more worrying than the performance.

Re: Points over Peformance
The kind of result and performance that keeps you in the PL - it's games like this where the experience of our manager and players pays massive dividends - tremendous achievement on such limited resources

Re: Points over Peformance
Difficult one to watch especially in the second half
as Sheffield were the better team but couldn't create too many chances
and Pope made one great save to keep us ahead.
Still the 3 points were the most important and keep us
above the relegation zone and Brighton and West Brom. losing helps also.
We'll need to play much, much better against Fulham but hope we
can get a win against them and push ourselves further up and away.
Hope Taylors' injury isn't too bad.

Re: Points over Peformance
McNeil is surely due back soon, as his injury was pretty minor. It's a wait and see regarding Taylor... but Pieter played his part.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:13 pmYes, at the moment points over performance but the injury list is growing, not getting better. Re: Points over Peformance
I disagree I want to see some kind of performance to win the game, what if they equalised ,I can't remember a shot on target second half

When we went one up top I can't believe he took Barnes off, Wood was inept tonight.
Lost the ball every single time he had it, his control was beyond abysmal.

Could be down to a few things, including:dougcollins wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:31 pmWhen we went one up top I can't believe he took Barnes off, Wood was inept tonight.

1. Barnes was knackered.
2. SD wanted to give Barnes minutes spare for the game vs Fulham - planning ahead.

Re: Points over Peformance
We're on a decent run and putting a bit of daylight between us and the bottom three. But for now, we remain in a relegation battle, so points need to be won at pretty much all costs.
If we beat Fulham, we could be eight points clear, with new owners and a bit of cash for a couple of new faces in January. Then we should hopefully be in s position to start looking up rather than over our shoulders.

Yes, but it was the period of the game that put us under most pressure - nothing was sticking to Wood. He couldn't even stay on his feet.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:32 pmCould be down to a few things, including:

Re: Points over Peformance
I thought we played well. A resolute performance.
Clearly, the second half was just a tactical decision by Dyche to play deep and allow them onto us.
A masterclass in numbing any attacking threat they had.

It is always points over performance when you watch Sean Dyche Burnley, that is why we are still in this league.

We definitely need more of the same against Fulham before our January fixtures of West Ham, Liverpool and Chelsea away with Villa at home.

We can't read much into fixtures. We beat Arsenal away and beat Wolves at home. One game at a time.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:48 pmWe definitely need more of the same against Fulham before our January fixtures of West Ham, Liverpool and Chelsea away with Villa at home.

You don't get points without performance in this league. People need to remember that

48 hours after playing at Leeds (Sheff U had an extra day to recover), against opposition who must have seen it as the ultimate "must win" game and with McNeill, JBG, JayRod, Cork and then Taylor all injured...the only thing that mattered was 3 points. I was/am very happy.

Re: Points over Peformance
Cloughie once side that the average fan would take a boring 1-0 win over a loss anyway
I am inclined to agree, we will win by various methods.Liverpool are an entertaining side who have dropped points against very poor teams in WBA and Newcastle.
I am sure Klopp would have took two 1-0 wins over a bunch of near misses every time
