Is That One of the Relegation Spots Filled?

Post by ElectroClaret » Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:19 pm

Really can't see the Blades getting out of it, even at this relatively early stage.
And as long as we don't fill one of the other two, I'll be happy.

I think it was filled before tonight
After Fat Sams drubbing tonight, WBA are all but doomed as well
We really need to do a job on Fulham on Sunday, it won't kill them but it won't do them any good.
Brighton and Palace would be a nice buffer if we can get that win, both are on a poor run.

I never like to think like that, as you just never know it could come back and bite you on the arse.

They can still put a run together.

Im sure Ive read somewhere that tonights defeat for Sheff Utd means they have made the worst start of any League side in any division since League football started in 1888

Probably isn't, but I don't like to write the opposition off, just in case.

I'm never one for saying that a relegation spot has been filled and let's see who Sam brings in for West Brom. He's made bad starts at other clubs and then rescued them. I can't see that Sheffield United team staying up though.

They are going down. They just haven’t got enough about them to win enough games.

I made the mistake years ago saying leicester were gone. We all know what happened then as they stayed up then won the league. We just need to get to 40 points ourselves

I accept it can come back to bite you, but I just don't see where the points are going to come from for them.
And of course, the constant defeats are obviously not doing their confidence any good.

Just chatted to a Leeds supporting mate - says WBA look very much like a Championship side. However, there is no way Big Fat Sam would take over a team unless he was promised a pretty much bottomless pit of money. As he always needs that to succeed.

So as for WBA they are far from down.

Absolutely barring an absolute miracle. I don’t know if the lack of fans has affected Sheff Utd way more than everyone else, but their sheer lack of urgency in anything they did tonight was absolutely astounding.

They literally just played walking football the entire evening. It was like watching a bunch of 60 odd year olds trying to force an opportunity. They’re finished.

Fulham actually look good from what I’ve seen of them recently.
Sheff u can’t recover from such a woeful points haul
West Brom might still rally with sams massive swede guiding them
Despite liking Bielsa, after Sunday’s robbery I really hope dirty leeds get dragged back down but they’ve probably wracked enough points up already
We could do with a couple of post takeover signings

Yes, but Leicester had some good players just playing badly. Sheff Utd don't have any good players. They would need a complete overhaul this coming window.
We need another 3 players to be sure and Sam will no doubt perform another miracle with a couple of decent signings.

I don't think there's any coincidence in their drop in form since Henderson left. He kept them in an obscene number of games last season.

Fulham have looked good for the last 3 seasons. They looked good the last time they were in the Premier League and played the best football in the Championship last season. Nothing has changed as far as I can see with them.

I remember us saying before we played them, who was going to go down with Leicester?
Then we played them, missed a penalty, they ran upfield and scored, won the game, stayed up, we went down and the year after they won the bloody league!
It's a funny old game, as Greavsie used to say
I like the honesty of Sheffield and hope they stay up, but as mentioned above, they may just be a bit too 'nice'

Don’t worry FactualFrank any thoughts you might have will have very close to zero influence on what happens down the bottom there of the premier league.

A few posters on here said we were doomed in late November. No one could be said to be doomed at such an early stage, particularly when the season didn't start til about a month later than usual.

There was someone on here last season saying that Stoke were doomed because they had made a really poor start in the Championship and were at the bottom.
It was only the end of August!!

Why strange? What I mean is none of us fans can influence what happens on the football field (even less so in present times), so there’s no point worrying too much, and there’s no harm predicting optimistic outcomes for ourselves.
Anyway here’s to looking upwards at the league table, particularly with a few dynamic signings in the Jan window!

Strange in that it just didn't need to be said. I don't like to tempt fate with things and just like to look at the next game and go with the flow. When people say we're going to get 9 points from our next 3 games, I cringe. It's just asking for trouble.

We’ll finish above Sheff United, West Brom, Fulham and Brighton at least.

Graham Potter has won 11 of 54 Premier League games - a win ratio of 20.37%. Steve Kean won 13 of 59 and has a better win percentage at a shade over 22%. And yet somehow people will tell you what a great job he’s doing and how progressive he is.

Sheffield United have two points and 22 games left. Even at 1.5 points a game that's still only 35 by the end of the season, and 1.5 a game is just about top six standard. So teams do improve, but it seems really very unlikely that they can turn this around. And after last season as well, when they seemed to be doing so well. I can't believe it's just a change of goalkeeper that's done it.

Aye, well it’s true most of us think like that, myself included. I have to remind myself often that whatever I think or say doesn’t really affect outside events at all. Of course I get what you mean, the idea of “tempting fate” is pretty much ingrained in us.

To be fair, just watching enough Premier League football makes it obvious that the loss of Henderson has hit them hard. I'm not saying it's the only reason, but it's obvious that it's been significant.

Not convinced we're safe as houses Steve, but we've garnered 15 points from our last 9 games, and that is nowhere near relegation form, if we maintain that ratio or near to it we'll be fine.

Importantly we're picking up points against our fellow relegation rivals, and if you can do that it makes your job of surviving a whole lot easier.

The only nagging doubt is the growing injury list and how much depth we have in our squad, but as long as we can bring 2/3 in next month we should be ok.

If anybody is going to get dragged in I'd go for Newcastle, they've been poor for a good few weeks now, and the fans are getting on Steve Bruce's back.

Apart from a couple of freak seasons no club has ever required anywhere near 40 points to survive.

This won't be one of those seasons either.

Good call. Sheffield have been down for weeks. They're like the boxer on the ropes who's being battered and you're praying for the ref to stop the fight!

Still time for Fat Sam to weave his magic (   ) at West Brom but I'm happy for them to a Southern Club with them (Fulham, Brighton or Palace will do).

Sean has worked his yearly miracle and silenced the ne'er do wells for a while but, still early days.

boat loads of points left to get, a transfer window to go through - nothing is decided for anyone but it will be incredibly difficult for Sheff Utd now but I'd love them to get out of it at the expense of Brighton !

I thought they looked awful at the start of this season but have markedly improved. As for the last time in the prem - they had one good game ironically against us at the cottage.

Sheffield United - 0 wins from 19 need 11/12(?) wins from their next 22 to survive - based on tonight's showing not going to happen

West Brom - performing at their true level - this isn't Everton, West Ham or Sunderland under-achieving. Allardyce has been out of top-flight football for a while and doubt he can attract the quality required to reverse their fortunes in time to survive

Fulham look a lot better but at the expense of their expansive style - a decent bet to stay-up though

Newcastle, Palace and Brighton far from out of the woods

So weird what’s happened to Sheff Utd. It’s not just Henderson either. It’s only just over a year since they absolutely battered us at theirs, we were lucky to get ‘0’ that day.

Brighton are in trouble. The pundits cream over Potter for some reason, but that's 12 home games without a home win for them now

Just chatted to a Leeds supporting mate - says WBA look very much like a Championship side. However, there is no way Big Fat Sam would take over a team unless he was promised a pretty much bottomless pit of money. As he always needs that to succeed.

So as for WBA they are far from down.
Remember Huddersfield trying to get Sam two seasons ago. He said they needed to score more goals and he didn't think he would be able to get them to do that with the players he had so turned them down. He'll only go in if he thinks he's going to get somewhere.

They looked like he'd got them well organised against Liverpool yet tonight they defended like a complete bunch of strangers.

So do the Baggies have a "bottomless pit of money?"

1 win in 14 for Brighton now, they are bang in the mix, they do draw a lot, but it's wins that lift you up the table, and until they start turning 1 point into 3 they'll struggle to climb the league.

It was Jermaine Defoe at Sunderland but struggling to think which rabbit he can pull out of the hat this time - coupled with that they don't seem to be able to stop goas going in at the other end - it's a always a mistake to write-off an Allardyce team but this is going to need something remarkable - all of the other teams down there (Blades aside) have got enough about them to be competitive - he has to overhaul two of them

As for the last time in the prem - they had one good game ironically against us at the cottage.
Rubbish. You clearly didn't watch Fulham the last time they were in the Prem other than against us.

They had a hell of a lot more than one good game.
