Bramwell Lane is the oldest continuously used stadium I think
Sorry didn't want to clog up the takeover thread, so posting this separately.
Bramall Lane was opened in 1855, so surely that must be the oldest ground, unless of course you're including stadiums used for cricket, them it gets more complicated.

Cricket ground initially, first football match played there in 1860s and last cricket match in 1973 which I think was the Roses match.

I think we will find it's all in the wording.
Do we actually mean ....in constant use by the same professional league football club?

Ok, so I always thought it was Deepdale so had to find an answer one way... according to one source...
Deepdale stadium is widely recognised as being the oldest “continuously used” football stadium in the world. But like most coveted historic accolades, it is fiercely contested. Its principal challenger is Bramall Lane stadium in Sheffield.

As I said. Do we mean used continuously used by the same club?
Sheffield utd were formed in the 1890's weren't they?

Northwich Victoria used to have the oldest ground anywhere, I was told. And in the league we used to be third behind Deepdale and The Victoria Ground (Stoke, not Hartlepool). Obviously moved up one when Stoke moved. Bramall Lane was definitely not older than Turf Moor on the list I saw, but of course it may have been an inaccurate list.
Colne CC have played at the Horsfield (on and off) since 1830, if that helps!
[Edit] I think perhaps the list I saw was of clubs who have played longest at their current grounds. Sheffield Utd didn't move to Bramall Lane until 1889.

Are you sure Sheffield FC became Hallam FC?FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 12:44 amBecause that's the oldest club. They then became Hallam FC.
Think they're two very different clubs. Hallam FC is younger. Though think their match is celebrated as the 'birth' of the football explosion across the world.
Sheffield FC play in Dronfield now.
Think our youth side played them in a friendly not long ago.

Re: Bramwell Lane is the oldest continuously used stadium I think
I went to Bramhall Lane on 2 occasions when it was a cricket ground, once for a league match and once for a league cup game and the Blades won the cup game but the last 10 mins or so we were pressing hard so the dozen ball boys that collected the ball when it went onto the cricket field were in no hurry to do their job.
