Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
I was just going to post the same topic, I'll pick Bright Osayi-Samuel on a nominal fee, just because we've got new investors, doesn't mean we have to throw the cash about unnecessarily. And if there's bargains to be had from the Championship, then by all means snap them up, it's a strategy that's worked well for us in the past, so why change it now.

I’d love it to be Tarkowski on another 3 year+ deal

Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
I'd hope we're aiming higher than the likes of Phil Jones, we've already got enough sicknotes in the squad as it is.
If Tarks goes then we need his replacement ASAP, and they need to be match ready from the get go. We can't afford the luxury of bedding players in, not in our present position, every point is too valuable to us.

I would very much doubt that. I don't think Sean will be signing one any time soon and Jack has just signed one.

Haven't you already told us that a couple of times over recent weeks?

Entirely agree re: Phil Jones. With a small squad, we need players that are going to be ready to play every game. I’d also hope we are looking at younger, more technical and exciting players that we can develop and sell at a profit.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 3:08 pmI'd hope we're aiming higher than the likes of Phil Jones, we've already got enough sicknotes in the squad as it is.

I think it would be madness to sell Tarks. If we sold for £30m, we get £20m. We then have to spend most of that signing a replacement, so no real financial benefit and we risk losing the stability that has pulled us away from the relegation zone. But we could so easily fall right back in it, so need to keep our best players at least this season.

I’ll go for Worrall. Seems Dyche is keen on him.
I’ll find it a quite underwhelming signing, I think. Would much rather we strengthen the right side this window.

Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
We definitely need to keep Tarks until the summer if we can, his importance to the squad is too great, and if we sold him in this window the spectre of relegation would loom large once again, we've got a useful buffer to the bottom 3, but it's nowhere near enough to be comfortable, and certainly not enough to let one of our key stars leave the building.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 3:28 pmEntirely agree re: Phil Jones. Agree on prioritising youth if we can, the core of the squad is decent, we just need 2-3 exciting additions, and we could prove a handful next season.

BBC Simon Stone reporting that the 1st meeting with Pace is today
Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
Will Sean say who he wants or will he have to accept who he is given bearing in mind ALK have player analysis specialists on board, or will they meet in the middle, certainly interesting times ahead.
Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
If SD ever has to work with players he doesn't want I cant see it ending well.

And that's what was part of what's happening from all accounts. Sean's very much part of ALK's plans.

According to The Telegraph, new Burnley chairman Alan Pace is set to meet with Sean Dyche for the first time today and has promised to back him in the transfer market, as he sees him as integral to the club's long-term plans.

Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
It almost definitely will not be Phil Jones as he is still out injured and has been since the start of the year so the likelihood of him being anywhere near fit before the window closes would seem to be virtually zero.

Re: Who will be the first signing under ALK
They should reach a "gentleman's agreement" with Tarks to commit until the Summer, hopefully play his part in seeing us safe and then say he can go if he still wants to with everyone's blessing, which I believe is exactly what happened with Michael Keane. After that I think this Samuel guy looks like a good bet, but as others have said we need to be wary of other clubs believing our purse strings have been literally shredded and the cash is flowing out. Because it isn't and mustn't and watching the hopelessly inept Brewster the other day showed exactly why!!

would like Pace to sit Tarks down and explain his vision for the club going forward and convince him to stay with the Clarets for at least 3 years..Make it financially attractive for him to stay also.

And so...it begins...
We're now going to be out-muscling ACMilan, Spurs, Leeds, Arsenal and Chelsea in pursuit of young players...and about to bin off our maximum wage policy.
Tarks is going to stick around on a lucrative 3 year deal.
I think we need to recommence operation "lower expectations" before some folk end up in straight jackets. There's gonna be plenty of real nuggets on here before the window ends.

You’ve made a couple of posts suggesting our fans are getting carried and suggesting ludicrous stuff but it just isn’t really happening.
If anything it’s been quite reserved.
