Re: Football off?
I know they said Scottish football is still on from this afternoons announcement. I guess they can’t “work from home” though

I don't think they class Scottish football as 'Elite'....

Re: Football off?
Lots of footballers breaking the rules, no point in stopping them playing.
The rules don’t apply to footballers obviously.

Can't see it restarting, no time to fulfil fixtures

My missus mocked me because I reacted more to that news than all the rest.

Re: Football off?
All I've seen on the ITV and BBC is that it's a lockdown like last March, but nothing regarding football.

Amateur team sports are not allowed, but elite sport such as Premier League football can continue

As soon as I saw Boris sat behind a desk/table with his hands clasped, I knew what was coming.

Is Elite the same as Professional? So if premier league continues then so does championship, league one and two?

They just cleared it up on Sky News. Thankfully my ears are ok. Edited thread title to clear stuff up.

Such poorly communicated rules and messages are a major part in us being in this mess a year on.

Can you please go home now. We've taped off the area and made it safe.
Re: Football off? - Edit apparently still on.
The government aren't in a position to cancel football again.
Re: Football off?
Elite sport can continue in lockdown.
Re: Football off? - Edit apparently still on.
More importantly will Dave Burnley still be able to attend matches?

Re: Football off? - Edit apparently still on.
It’s non-elite sports that are not permitted
Sports, leisure and worship
Other venues including zoos, golf and tennis clubs and outdoor gyms must close and team sports are not permitted.
However, elite sports will continue as will PE lessons and clubs for those children at school.
Places of worship will be permitted to open for socially distanced services and playgrounds will remain open.

I know we're premier league and we are obviously elite, but until this virus carry on I'd never heard the term ELITE SPORT to describe professional football so I dunno if football tiers 2, 3 and 4 are elite. Someone tell me!

I think they'll try and keep the PL and probably the Championship going if they can, if League 1 and below have to have a pause then so be it, if needs be they can extend their seasons until the end of June. however the higher leagues don't have this option due to the impending Euro's.

That's always a possibility, but you'd hope by the summer the situation will be a lot better then it currently looks.

Sure I heard today that the players who allegedly went out celebrating, ending in Prem league games being called off, won't face any sanctions??
In other words they can do what they want?

Re: Football off? - Edit apparently still on.
I suppose it depends what you mean by sanctions, I assume they're being fined by their respective clubs, now if you mean sanctions from the PL, then yes I agree they should face punishment, and if that means they're unable to be selected for their clubs then tough, the penny might finally drop for these players, because I'm sure their teammates and mangers won't be happy with their actions.clitheroeclaret3 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 9:42 pmSure I heard today that the players who allegedly went out celebrating, ending in Prem league games being called off, won't face any sanctions??

Re: Football off? - Edit apparently still on.
They do have a window in 2022 as the WC won't be held until December, so there is some leeway if they wish to delay.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 10:32 pmI think so. But even so id put it off another year or so. Particularly as last summer there was no break. And next years World Cup year.
Like everything else we'll just have to play it by ear I'm afraid.

Yeah I realised that but that will still eat into the regular season meaning it starts earlier or finishes later or both.
