Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
He’s quick, tall and knows where the back of the net is.
Given Tottenham’s defence a hard time tonight with his pace and work rate.
Would love to sign him but no doubt would be out of our budget.
MOD: The question asked by the OP is a perfectly decent one. The thread didn’t warrant deleting but lots of cleaning up was required. Please report posts. Anyway back to the subject matter. He was only player for Brentford that impressed me in that game.
Would suit our style well.

...and yes the previous comment I will concede as somewhat ill judged given the current climate.
Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
Would he be one that fit ALK's ideal though ?

They had a few that impressed me again tonight.
Very confident with the ball at their feet and want to go forward.
Enjoyable to watch.

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
My only concern with buying anyone from Brentford is they want top top dollar.
They would want at least 20m for Toney which in this climate I’m not sure is worth it.
I think Brentford as a whole would struggle in the prem. gave the ball away a ridiculous amount tonight
Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
He looked like a confident striker.
Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
If I recall it was rumoured that we had an interest in him when he played against us for Posh not long back. He scored. He would have cost a lot less then

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
We paid £15 million for Wood who was 26 at the time, so £20 million isn't a bad price for someone who's younger.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 10:07 pmMy only concern with buying anyone from Brentford is they want top top dollar.

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
I like the look of Dasliva albeit he got sent off.
Not sure we could afford him as suspect Brentford would
15m+ but you never know.
Possibly on loan till end of season and then we buy
could be an option?

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
He was mentioned often on this board, and yes he'd have been a lot cheaper £5m or so probably, this is why we need to try and snap up talent from the lower leagues before they move out of our price range, even with the new investment I don't expect mega money signings, but we can surely stretch to a couple of £5-10m signings with a potential sell on value.

Hopefully they and Dyche will work together on players that Dyche wants, they are involved with analysis and things. Wasn't one of the reasons Dyche and Garlic fell out was transfer interference ( then no transfers at all ).

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
It’s true, but would he have had the opportunities to be nurtured and develop in the Premier League? It’s quite likely we would have needed to send him on loan to the Championship and we’ve never been in a position to be able to carry excess players by choice.
It’s one of the conundrums we find ourselves in, with the real threat of relegation every season it’s difficult to blood inexperienced players. Maybe an area where we see some improvement.
Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
I think a prime Martin Paterson is the kind we should be looking for, in the Vardy mould of fast and non stop pressing from the front with an eye for goal.
People will undoubtedly scoff at me saying Paterson but I really like Pato when he was here and it was sad how the injuries killed his career here.

Brentford are second in the league and have every chance of going up, they would be insane to sell any of their players unless they are absolutely skint

Again, this ship has sailed, Brentford would want too much, we need to identify and buy these players before they take off.

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
I agree it’s the move before they get to the Championship that will be more in our price range and get the big value increase for the ALK bean counters.
But as Rileybobs says, taking a punt on a League One player to help keep you from relegation is quite the risk. It’s good for a laugh when we keep getting senior pros from Stoke but would we all be cool if all we bring in this month is a lad from Peterborough or Forest Green Rovers?
I think stuff like that is more likely in the summer.

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
Rumoured to have cost Brentford up to 9m from Peterborough, 6 months later they are wanting 20m for him.
Ideally we want to be cutting out the middle man for deals like this.
Interestingly Alan Pace mentioned finding club partners, which would allow players to play first team minutes if they cannot get that with us.
Hopefully that may mean getting young rising talent in early cutting out the middle man, and still getting them first team minutes and developing whilst still being a Burnley player.
If a partner club is found, hopefully our youngsters will get out and tested more too, as it usually once given a decent 1st team run you find out if its boom or bust.
The premier league isn't a league you can give 1 or 2 young or raw players 20 games to settle and see if they take off.

Would rather sign Brentford's recruitment team
WE did look at him before he signed for Brentford but clearly didn't see what potential was there

Or didn't think he was ready to play in the Premier League, which considering before last season he best season was 16 in League 1 isn't hard to imagine.

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
Part of the problem here is that the striking department probably hasn’t been a priority for us over the past few windows. We have good competition for places and 4 lads (or 3 1/2 who have all proved capable at PL level. Compare that with some of our rivals. Perhaps SD feels
It’s the supply chain that is the priority.
He does look a good player though. Thought that when he played in the cup here for Posh.

Something Brentford seem to do very well given the profits they have made on players over recent years
And this guy looks likely to be the next example

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
Yes you are right about that - excess players - and maybe the Gibson episode is a prime example. |Also a good comment about relegation threat. If we were comfrtable year after year then maybe we could 'blood' younfg players. As it things stand we have to buy, mainly from the Championship (or lower) and hope the player makes the Grade in Premier League. We have hugely successful in that.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 11:16 pmIt’s true, but would he have had the opportunities to be nurtured and develop in the Premier League? We're we ever linked with him? I remember quite a few people on here being impressed with his performance against us v Peterborough

Re: Is Toney Dyche’s ideal striker
You could also argue that we signed players could enough to get promoted (something Brentford have never managed to ever do) and the profits they make from having to sell players we make from being in the Premier League.
Had we signed him from Peterborough do you think he would have had the game time of playing almost every minute allowing him to develop as he had done ?
Also if you are going off signing players from lower leagues what profit do you think we could make from Pope, Taylor. Tarks & Brownhill to name just 4 ?

Fair point I still think that’s the kind of player we need, a nippy striker who chases everything with an eye for a goal.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 11:03 amPaterson was never ever Premier League quality, he was ok in the championship on his day, nothing more though in my opinion

Always felt Paterson was naive and never learnt - yes he chased most things but he could never get anything from a defender shielding the ball out for a goal kick.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 11:03 amPaterson was never ever Premier League quality, he was ok in the championship on his day, nothing more though in my opinion
