Robert Snodgrass

Post by DomBFC1882 » Thu Jan 07, 2021 6:25 am

Apologies if this has already been posted i must have missed it.

Quite simply would you have him?

I think he would be perfect on the right with mcneil on the left and josh and Westy in the centre. We would get some serious crosses in with them 2 out wide

Yeah I saw it on sky sports news this morning mate but it also said there was another premier league club interested so I just thought it was worth getting peoples opinion on him. I would love us to sign a right winger this month though. The thought of Barnes and wood attacking crosses from both sides is mouthwatering.

Yea he'd be decent player for us. He's in his 30s but for 3 million would be good value. Could he dislodge Benson though, I'm not sure.

Benson isn't a natural right winger though which is what we need imo

And neither is Snodgrass :o

Just hope its the likes of Sheff Utd who are also interested

But agree, he does fit the Dyche profile to a large degree

I like Snodgrass. Good player, good character and his work rate is that of someone who would naturally fit a Sean Dyche team. However, he’s 33 I think. Maybe if it had been a loan to the end of the season with no commitment beyond that it might have been ok but it comes across as a bit of a desperate signing for West Brom.

I think we almost signed him and then he decided to go to West Ham at the last minute.

If hes the new Messiah why isnt he getting played at West Ham?.Another in the Demarai Gray mould,a five minute performer then disappears
Fair play though, hes up there with Wilf and Jack in the diving ability

No thanks.

33 yrs old, we need to lower the age of the squad.

I'd rather we invested in someone younger because looking at his stats he hardly pulls up many trees.

Reputed to be on £40k a week at West ham, which is affordable, but I still wouldn't waste my time with him.

I used to really like Snodgrass and I think West Ham paid about £10m in 2017 for him. The only thing making me think no to this is that it’s 3 years too late. Saying that, the aim is staying up this season and we need something on the right.

His injury record of late doesn’t appear too bad.

I'd take Snodgrass on loan till the summer without a shadow of a doubt.

We need a right winger desperately, and I don't really think a 33 year old is the answer at all - BUT - we need to ensure our survival this season before we perhaps make some more interesting long term signings. Snodgrass is a Dyche player all ends up in my eyes, hardworking, reliable and consistent. He can put a good ball in and has a goal in him too.

I've been an advocate for us signing Snodgrass for a while as I think he would have fitted perfectly into our system. However, as others have mentioned, he is perhaps too old now. it feels like the ship has sailed. If there are no other options and he is fit, then I'd take as a short term solution however if there were no other options.

Not for me. Five years ago maybe. Last time I saw him play he looked both unfit and a little overweight for a pro footballer. He may well have trimmed up since but considering lack of action, you’d imagine he’s some way off. We desperately need to get the age profile of the squad down and while Snodgrass has obvious qualities, I don’t think he’d be the right signing.

Might have been interested on a half-season loan basis, but that’s all.

Simply too old to be considered anything more a future bit-part player and not what our ageing squad needs.

Bit harsh this constant criticism of Benson.

I do think he has struggled but he’s also only 21 years of age, has no first team experience and has been played out of position. Will he come good in time? Who knows, but you have to give the lad a proper chance to show what he can do in his natural position.

I’d take Snodgrass for £3m as well.

Sorry but I must correct you as It's not actually constant criticism it's only when I see relevant. ie signing some one in 'HIS' position is relevant imo. I don't go on the GUESS THE GATE thread and post BENSONS CRAP.

With JBG fit he'd just be another £3m sat on the bench.
But may do OK at WBA

Leisure that's a good point and to be serious I have seen him only twice. Both times apparently not in his correct position. However we were asked for the Burnley teams marks after the game with Sheff United. I scored him purely on him playing right side mid and on that game!

So that's it really I scored mearly on what I saw, having no knowledge he was out of position or having seem him play in the under 23s. Just purely on his performance against Sheffield as was required for the marking system.

I have been since told he does play centre mid. To me he didn't look comfortable on the ball, his passing and vision didn't seem up to that and his tackling was poor not to mention lack of pace. Yes I hope it was just a bad game and he turns out to be a Ronaldo.

Obviously you have seen him play more than me, do you think in time he will be a regular premier league player?

Snodgrass is a good player. Plenty skill, good from set pieces and open play and a worker. He’d have done a job on a short deal but as has been said, ideally we’ll be finding a younger version.

So you "just don't rate one iota" based on watching him play out of position in a Premier League game once or twice?

I've seen him plenty of times and he is a very good footballer but nobody could predict whether he will be a regular Premier League player at this stage. Hopefully when we get more bodies fit and available he might be able to go out on loan again and play every week - an important part of his development.

Correct, the same as when I saw Tarks come on against Arsenal as a 70th minute (around there) sub. After a few minutes I realised he was class. I suppose its about the individuals eye. You either have an eye or you don't.

Lets see where he ends up. We will re-open this when he's playing non league. I'm positive he will never be a premier league regular. Lets wait and see

I agree with you to a large degree about Benson, but he is a young inexperienced player that might come good. What I've seen so far does not warrant th e praise he has has on this board. As for Snodgrass he's too old, would be a silly signing.

Snodgrass in his day could have been a great signing for us, but that day is gone.
I'd much rather be linked with someone younger whose star is rising, than someone who is coming to the end. Thankfully I think the new Chairman will feel the same.
Another problem with buying older stars, is that they want the security of a longer contract, which ties up a squad place for several years, and limits our ability to bring in a younger player.
The same can be said about Jones. We need a replacement for Tarks if he is going, but despite his pedigree, I don't think Jones would be my choice. We have Dunne and Thomas, not forgetting Kevin Long, hopefully looking to break into the first team. Again, 5 years ago Jones could have been a great signing, but not today. He has more of a feel of an expensive stop gap. Not forgetting that he can't get into Uniteds side, even with the numpty Maguire who let another ball drift past him in the box, to give away a goal yet again last night.

I agree with you to a large degree about Benson, but he is a young inexperienced player that might come good. What I've seen so far does not warrant th e praise he has has on this board.
I don't think he has been overly praised....perhaps some posters are trying to be positive and encouraging but he deserves more leeway than others have given him. It's a little bit like when Pieters was playing on the right wing - he wasn't great but he was helping out for the greater good. Once Pieters goes to left back he obviously looks far more comfortable and competent and that's when he should be judged.

Phil Jones is a mere 9 months older than Tarks...

Long is never going to be a first choice here and I suspect he's content with that plus he's 30yrs old now.
