Podcast recommendations

Post by ArmchairDetective » Sun Jan 10, 2021 11:44 am

Hi all,

I'm hoping to get some podcast recommendations on this thread, either football related or non-football. I did a quick search but couldn't find another podcast thread, though I've seen the odd one referred to (e.g. featuring Robbie Blake).

Podcasts I've listened to in the past year or so include:

Bellingcat Podcast - very interesting investigation into the Malaysian Airlines flight that was shot down.

Athletico Mince - brilliant light hearted pod for fans of Bob Mortimer, with a few playful references to BFC

An Oral History of the Office - for fans of the US Office made by Brian Baumgartner (plays Kevin)

Peter Crouch pod - interesting look into the life of a footballer, a bit try hard at times (sorry Peter et al)

The History of Rome - a bit interesting but also a bit repetitive and dull

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Seconded. And with the benefit that any new listeners starting now have got 7 seasons of back catalogue to listen to.

I can only find one episode of the office podcast. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Magic Sponge - Host pretty annoying in Rob Beckett and Jimmy Bullard but some of the guests have been good, recommend the Ray Parlour, Tony Warner (2 parts) and Graham Stack episodes.

Undr The Cosh - Jon Parkin and Chris Brown hosting, recommend the Geoff Horsfield, Chris Kirkland, Clarke Carlisle (2 parts), Glen Little (2 parts), Luke Chadwick, Alan Rogers episodes.

I believe it was produced in part by Spotify which is where I accessed all episodes. Maybe only certain episodes released elsewhere?

It's worth a listen if you're a fan of the show and able to access it. Interviews with lots of key people involved in making the show.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. Lots to go at there on the daily commute, many I hadn't heard of before today.

I've had several recommendations for Adam Buxton's pod so it's good to have a reminder about that.

Cheers

Have you tried office ladies? It's Pam and Angela from the US office and it's really good. Each week they go through an episode in order starting from the pilot. They answer fan questions etc and have guests on from the show. You can tell they really love the show.

At first I had to get over the excited American accents but I really like the office so stuck with it and it was worth it.

Joe Rogan's 'PowerfulJRE' podcasts. Some good ones -

#1258 - Jack Dorsey, Vijaya Gadde & Tim Pool pertinent today after the recent gagging of POTUS by Twitter
#1159 - Neil deGrasse Tyson.
#1006 - Jordan Peterson & Bret Weinstein.
Also Brian Cox, Jordan Peterson, Russel Brand, Mike Tyson, Elon Musk, Sam Harris... so so so many to choose from from absolutely every walk of life or political leaning if you're into that sort of thing..

David Dimbleby’s The Fault Line

The Missing Crypto Queen

There are some very good true crime investigation ones out there (some names escape me without looking on my work phone).

The Guardian Football Weekly is a great listen if you’re not already familiar with it. 3 hour-long podcasts a week currently.

If you're a fan of The Sopranos then Talking Sopranos with Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirippa is worth checking out.

That sounds good. They were doing theatres in the uk but obviously that’s cancelled.

Grounded with Louis Theroux on BBC Sounds is worth listening to

For those of you into music I highly recommend A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs by Andrew Hickey. It is a ten year project and he is currently on Episode 110, in his third year, so you will have some catching up to do if you get into it. I just reached episode 50 myself and he is in the middle of 1956.
