Perspective.....
1) The team lost narrowly in a scrappy game against the league leaders
2) The team are towards the top of the mini league that they are expected to compete in
3) The shape that the team play in is a core strength, it's what the continuous over achievement is based upon
4) The club continues to over perform
5) Wood and Barnes are not useless. Wood in particular is out of form. They are amongst the top 5-10 strikers the majority of us would have seen play for Burnley
6) Dyche is not stubborn and unwilling to change, he has clarity on what works for the team to get results. It may not be pretty, but it is clearly effective.
Any more?

Yes, we have 16 points and we're half way through January and playing well and getting nothing isn't going to keep us out the dog poo known as The Championship.

Re: Perspective.....
We appear to be slowly getting over the injury crisis with most of our senior players starting to return. Hence the bench looks much stronger.

Re: Perspective.....
We've to get to about? 37 points by May and even for SD that's going to be almost miracle proportions from where we are now. Yes, we're playing pretty well, especially defensively, but the front 2 look extremely flat and that's an issue in itself because we really don't get many goals from elsewhere. (Yes, I know Mee scored the other week, but...) I'm very concerned tbh, as you may have noticed!!

Might be worth pointing out that we've lost twice in the last seven Premier League games, one of them with some very dodgy decisions and the other against the league leaders. Those seven points have brought eleven points and I think that's an excellent return from the fixtures we've had.

Re: Perspective.....
If we do need 37, and I think it will be less, then we are on course because 37 is less than a point a game overall and we are running at a point a game now despite that very difficult start with half of the team missing. Miracle proportions from where we are now. Are you actually serious? Re: Perspective.....
1. We've made Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd look distinctly average
2. Took a deflected goal to beat us last night
3. Close to having the full squad back
4. Clear path to the FA Cup QF's
5. Money to invest in the transfer window
6. Hardly conceding any goals (I know !)
7. Brady looking good again

So you think that it will be a miracle for us to reach 37 points but that it will be straightforward for 2 of the teams below us, on fewer points, to reach that total??Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 9:38 amWe've to get to about? 37 points by May and even for SD that's going to be almost miracle proportions from where we are now. starting to look back to our best, but we simply need a change up top. That's not to say Wood and Barnes aren't good players, but they're clearly both way off it in front of goal.

We only have to play Man City once more in the league and that's at home (as well as in the FA Cup Semi-Final!)

Looking at the table, only five teams have conceded less than us.

Re: Perspective.....
We're doing fine, we just lost to a much better set of players in form. We can only beat the best sides of they're not at it, in the second half especially man united were.
I have to say though, which is not finger pointing at Dyche because he's doing a fine job, is that I'm increasingly finding watching us a total bore. It's just the realities of the Premier league and the pressure of trying to stay here. In terms of entertainment value alone, it's much more fun trying to get here than staying here.

Re: Perspective.....
We are somewhat back to the old Burnley. What worries me though is than in the last half dozen games Mee or Tarkowski arejust as likely to score as Barnes or Wood. Its likely we will get few chances per game includung when we play against the bottom 6, so we absolutely need the front two to convert a higher ratio of chances (as proved v MK Dons where we could have been 4-1 up at half time)

Based on the points per game of the entire season we're on course for 38 points.
Based on the points per game of the last 10 games we're on course for 49 points.
Based on the points per game of the last 6 games we're on course for 53 points.
Form is improving, not getting worse.
Re: Perspective.....
3 of our next 4 league games are away
Bench looks stronger
Any new additions will be well up to speed come the summer
Wood and Barnes will eventually take a chance if we persist
Probably only need 7 wins
Still have 3 of the bottom 4 to play at home

Looking at the table, we are the joint lowest scoring team with 9 goals, alongside bottom club Sheffield United.

Re: Perspective.....
Shaw should have walked.
International superstar Cavani warned for diving.
Signing of the decade Fernandes non-existent.
Pogba alone cost 2 x as much as BFC starting 11.
Martial marshalled by the best CB partners in league.
Starting 11 cost 480 million.
On another day Vids scores 2.
But for deflection Pope saves goal easily.
Incentive to go top of the league.
Hanging on in desperation at the end.
SD better at developing Man Utd youngsters than Man Utd - think Heaton, Keane, Brady, McNeil & Brownhill.
All this to come away with a scrappy 0-1 away win - embarrassing given their resources.
Perspective indeed !!.

Vydra scoring twice in a PL game for Burnley this season?
I hope that day comes against West Ham in our next scheduled match.
