Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Big game for Wood and Barnes (I’ve been saying this for the past 4-5 games).

West Ham fans are scared of Wood. Let's hope he keeps his cool today and buries a chance to get the confidence back.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
That’s a hugely surprising starting eleven from Mr Dyche.
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
I suspect that he doesn't believe that Mcneil and J Rod are fully match fit. He will bring them on, and again on Thursday, possibly starting at Fulham
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Won't bother dyche in the slightestQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 2:04 pmNeed a big result and good performances from the front two.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
I'm convinced that Dyche's continued insistence on starting Wood and Barnes is at least about 40% for defending set pieces.

Yep - no problem. If something isn't broken, don't fix it. Is that the one you were looking for?Mrpotatohead wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 2:02 pmCan someone remind me of that saying about doing the same thing and expecting different results?
7th in the form table based on the last 6 games.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Thanks for asking. I'd love to. The quote is "insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results." Its attributed to Einstein. But he never said it. Probably because it's incorrect. If you do the same thing over and over, you should expect different results. That's chaos theory. And it is a well evidenced theory which we see on a daily basis. The real question is how different will the outcome be, and how often, if we do the same thing over and over again. If it's a tiny change most of the time, then the insanity quote holds some ground. But if its a significant change most of the time... well you get the pointMrpotatohead wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 2:02 pmCan someone remind me of that saying about doing the same thing and expecting different results?
Long and short of it all. Dyche knows this team can get a result. But you have to ask how long he will stick with those front 2. If we don't score again today... then you surely have to ask questions

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
A large part of the remaining 60% will be because Wood is by far our biggest goal threat. And when you’re struggling for goals like we are then it makes sense for that person to be on the pitch.

Yep - a bloody good trick of winning far more football matches than the expected level.

I'd tend to agree in general, especially in the case of Wood, but I'm just ripping my hair out at the sheer number of absolute sitters both have been missing this season.

Frustrating isn’t it. Although we’ve not created anywhere near enough chances for them to miss. There have been a number of sitters though.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
I'm not going to knock Dyche as he has been our best manager by far in the 45 years I have been a proud claret. BUT, I just don't get his insistence on persisting with a front line, Wood in particular, that isn't producing results. On Tuesday night against Man UTD, I thought Barnes work around the pitch was excellent, however Wood just doesn't seem to do very much at all. So if he isn't scoring, what is he contributing? If he was getting say a goal every two games then fair enough, you can justify his inclusion, but he isn't .... so what is he actually contributing!! When Jay and/or Vydra actually get game time, we start creating chances. It seams an awful gamble each game to keep persisting with the Wood and Barnes combo. I would have swapped Barnes for Jay today if Wood is undroppable (which he appears to be). Rant over .....
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
If we get a performance I don't mind the starting 11, it's when we don't we look awful I can't stand.

You have to think that if today doesn’t see a huge improvement from Wood and Barnes then they will be dropped.
