To be fair here, all the Amazon commentary team said was that we’re not expecting to have huge sums available, which is what both SD and AP have positioned previously.
Remains to be seen if that is managing expectations or not.

Of course, and let's hope that Alan Pace is fine and makes a speedy recovery. But a business of this size doesn't stop when the man at the top falls ill (presuming he even is ill). This shouldn't have any impact on our activity in the transfer window.Reecey1987 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 7:09 pmCovid has affected some more than others look what happend to the prime minister he started off with mild symptoms. I guess you can watch the game back - it was mentioned in the pre match and again briefly at half time from what I remember. I took it to be the usual mis-informed opinions of the idiots they have on these shows. But it was certainly at odds with what we’ve heard previously.

Don’t worry the days of paying for a new signing with a giant cheque have gone! I’m sure between the new owners all former Wall Street investors they’ll be able to work out how to sign new players. Or it’s back to Holty and his fax machine!

They didn't say that. They were just speculating on the negativity Sean has been spouting about having to make the best of what they have. They haven't spoken to the Chairman.

If the players we’re being linked with are our real targets (Kenny, Knight) I can’t see much point signing them now.
No way either come straight on to our side. Lowton is playing well and “Premier League fit”, no way Kenny displaces him. Also no way Knight displaces Westwood/Brownhill (+ we have Cork & Stephen’s as cover). Could possibly see the value in securing Knight & loaning him back to Derby.
We need a right-footed, right-sided midfielder, so a shame none have been linked so far.

The nonsense of buying players then loaning them back to their original club needs banning
The point of us signing players is to play them in our team.Chelsea were fined a pittance for being kings at harvesting young players then loaning them.UEFA need needs to ban teams stockpiling talent I this manner

Jack Cork was poor against MK Don's no doubt he will play v Fulham but I cant see him displace Josh or Ash Westwood in midfield for league games.
I just with Sean would gamble more with Joel and Mat as a front two just to freshen things up.

If Knight is that player then let’s get it done. We have the worst CM duo in the league.

That’s a little harsh on Westwood and Brownhill. Both have been superb signings for us, and are often outnumbered 3-2 in the central areas.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 3:36 pmWe urgently need a CM to come in and replace one of Brownhill or Westwood.

Brownhill is tasked to intercept and break up play, and Westwood to get the ball forward quickly from deep. Neither are asked to carry the ball, or create in the Number 10 sense.
If we’re going to carry on with 4-4-2, then we don’t need another CM.
If we were to ever go with 3 in the middle, I wouldn’t mind us looking at Hourihane at Villa. Doesn’t play and likely in our price/wages range.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I just don’t think that is quite accurate. Our tactics have always been move the ball quickly through midfield so that our wide men (that lack pace) get the space to put the ball in the box. Our midfield has been shocking at passing the ball at tempo. Right now I would put Cork straight back into the team we have missed him more than any other player.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 3:43 pmThat’s a little harsh on Westwood and Brownhill. I really don’t understand what people see in brownhill, apart from interceptions and graft he offers us absolutely nothing going forward. He could probably work in the Kante type role but currently our formation and tactics don’t allow for that.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Brownhill is very hard working and industrious but not sure he's got the quality for this level. I realise it won't be easy but we desperately need a bit more quality in the middle of the park, rather than just graft.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
You would see a lot more from Brownhill in a midfield 3. At the moment, he’s busting a gut to make up for that one man disadvantage. We’re not asking him to go forward, that’s not his role in a 2. We’re asking him to break up play, and he’s doing an excellent job.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 3:55 pmI just don’t think that is quite accurate. Our passing at tempo is poor, but there’s no outlet. Opposition full backs are pushing up on our wingers, sometimes doubling up, and the only option is to play the ball into the channels and try and turn the central defenders.
This is the limitation with 4-4-2, and having nobody between the lines. We really could do with trying something different.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
You will only see more quality in the middle with a 3, not 2.

I’m sorry but that is just making excuses for the lad. We have played 442 for 8 seasons under Dyche and our midfield 2 has never operated worse.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 4:03 pmYou would see a lot more from Brownhill in a midfield 3. There are literally only two other midfielders in the league with worse offensive passing stats.

Our tactic, for me, has mainly been to move the ball via a great big hoof up to static, isolated front men (I dream of the day when we move it quickly through midfield )
As for Brownhill, we know he leads the league in interceptions and is also second within club stats only to Tarks in terms of tackles made
He is also 3rd for the club in attempted shots which is almost three times as many as Westwood who is eleventh
Westwood does make a lot of passes, but most of them are sideways or backwards

The onus isn’t on the midfield to create.
We play the ball into the channels and try and win the flick ons and second balls. It’s our wingers who should be tasked to create. All the midfield two can do, especially when outnumbered, is hold the centre, try and protect the CB’s and break up play.
That’s a fact.
Edit- we’ve never had a CM who has been creative or scored frequently under Dyche, so it’s not a criticism you can suddenly level at Brownhill and/or Westwood.

I simply said that Brownhill currently has the third worst offensive passing stats of all midfielders in the premier league.
Anyway back to the point of recruitment Nixon has said it has all gone quiet and he wonders what Dyche thinks.

It was always going to be. Very little, if anything, has changed other than the accents of those sitting around the boardroom table.

You are right, not a lot has changed other than BFC has now got to service this debt that Pace and co. have saddled us with. Sean Dyche is probably a wealthier man in his own right than these guys. Worrying times, me thinks.

This is depressing as always this transfer window. We are going to have a serious rebuilding job come the summer considering the players out of contract. RB, RM, CB, ST as a minimum

For all the talk of the takeover releasing extra funds for SD I've got a feeling the hopes of many will be somewhat misplaced.

I think you probably remember him being better than my recollection of him, my main memory of him is his equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA cup 1/4 final I think it was. Before we got beaten 5 - 0 in the replay at Hillsborough ( diving header if my memory serves me right. The Enclosure wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 8:08 pmWe need a holding midfielder who can control midfield and then pick a pass, rather than treating the ball like a hot potato. Lingard considering 6 month loan to Sheff Utd say SSN
Given our shortcomings wide right would have thought we might have gone in for him on a similar short term deal

Would be an excellent signing for them. There must be reasons why we don't go in for players like him, though. And it can't be down to lack of talent.
