You sound as if your criticising me, by agreeing with me.....TsarBomba wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 7:05 pmIn a 4-4-2, Westwood and Brownhill will NOT be released to go further forward. A CM will only be given licence to drive forward or operate further forward if we play with 3 in the middle.
In a 4-4-2, it’s not the job of our midfield to do this. They are asked to screen the CB’s and break up play.
I find it incredible that after 8 years of Dyche and 4-4-2, there are still some people that don’t understand how we set up.
You simply cannot criticise Brownhill or Westwood for a lack of offensiveness in our current set up.
Edit- if you want our CM’s in a 2 to push forward, then you need to accept that our CB’s will be isolated more in 1v1’s, leading to more goals conceded. You can’t have it both ways.
I know how we set up, but we have played this way in the past and still managed to get players closer to the front two. We've even managed it in the odd match this season. The problem is that when we fail to get bodies forward we fail miserably as a team. Westwood and Brownhill need to be told, to get forward, make inroads into the defence, draw players into the middle, to make space for Brady and JBG out wide. If they don't we might as well wave the white flag.
We got a point at Anfield last season, not just because we defended well, but because we were positive on the ball. Our play of late has been so negative. That falls on the shoulders of the wingers and CMs, not on Wood or Ash.

Take your pick, Barnes, Wood, Brady, Lowton, Gudmundsson and on and on........."Not good enough" for plenty on here.
Unless we win of course.

Maybe Vydra who it seems wants out to get regular starts could be used in part exchange?Reecey1987 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 6:49 pmJason O'connor posted on twitter . Derby are now open to idea of selling Jason Knight to help ease their financial woes. Burnley hot alerted today!!

I don't think getting rid of a kid on peanuts, while paying Vydra 40k a week would do much for their financial woes.

I would have thought that they would hope to get a few million plus Vydra in exchange for Knight which would obviously help them financially

Lancashire Telegraph has posted a story about the possibility of signing Jason Knight. Interestingly there source is Jason OConnor on Twitter.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Heard something on SSN a couple of days ago that they were close to yet another takeover which would explain Rooney's eagerness to become manager if he's going to get a transfer warchest
But he needs to keep them up to spend it in the summer

This is worse than the last window. Even the rumours are less let alone the signings

This is what I find odd about this one. If they're close to being taken over by someone mega-rich, why would they sell their best player? No financial pressure to sell and presumably want to keep players that will help keep them up.

If you believe what social media says, Derby are very close to getting deducted points due to there poor financial position. If the points deduction goes ahead they are very likely to be relegated.
Also interesting that Derby are looking to sign ravel Morrison. Knights replacement?

That’s bonkers, we should be all over that.
However Dyche and Rodgers have a pretty good relationship from Watford days so may have tipped him off to steer clear? We know Dyche likes to do his background checks on players.

Also he might not be good for squad harmony if he starts commiting defenders or taking players on !

A team still might be able to jump in on the deal but looks likely he’s on his way to Leverkusen for next to nothing.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It's not a risk at that price
Is it a permanent deal, or a loan fee though?

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Cheaper to buy someone for £2 million and pay 40k per week than paying £10 million and £20k week based on a 3 year deal. Probably also better for cash flow. Not saying this is the answer but just putting it out there. If a player is more talented they should be paid more. The game as a whole should try and freeze out agents though. What we do need is more quality now in the final third for which we will have to pay more in wages or fee. The sourcing of younger talent and possibly from abroad is for the future.

Its how that person fits into the group and team, its the distractions they may present to the coaching and leadership of the squad if they are finding a player who is of a character which is likely to demand more energy and time on things which do not driver performance on the field.Boss Hogg wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:37 pmCheaper to buy someone for £2 million and pay 40k per week than paying £10 million and £20k week based on a 3 year deal. I am not a well-connected person by any means but I do know a good close friend of a manager who is now a premier league manager and he was telling me about how we are well shielded from some of the shenanigans that go on with some players. An example of one time just to give you an insight was how a player (not a PL Club) turned up late to a training session via helicopter, strolled over to the manager and said that he had injured himself and could not train today. Basically ended up walking back to the waiting helicopter and flew off. Pictures then came to light that the helicopter had flown him to an airport and he had jetted off for a few days in the sun with his mates and when he came back, his injury had miraculously gone. The agent protected the player quite well and he knew he may be out of the team for a game or 2 but he got paid still a decent amount and he would be soon back in the fold because of the squad size and there was nothing they could do in terms of his contract without it costing a lot of money.
You don't want a player just because the maths works is what I am saying. As a Manager/Leader, you want your team to have the right spirit, togetherness and passion to succeed.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I find it hard to believe that we're not in the market for a right winger. Hendrick and Lennon both played that position and weren't replaced now we find ourselves with a choice of JBG or another player playing out of position. We haven't even got an U23 player who plays that position that is anywhere near the first team.

I think maybe time for Jack to get some game time, but tough call. Do you drop Brady , who I feel is playing well, and push Josh there, which makes us stronger defensively, and bring Dwight back on the left. Personally v Liverpool I would, and start Wood & Jay up front
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Conor Hourihane 29 going on loan to Swansea, he would of been a decent addition to our midfield, better than Cork n Stephens in my opinion..
