Which begs the question, are we too crap to stay up ?
We can grind points out better than most.
But lack of investment isn't making the gig any easier.
Plus the obvious cracks away from the playing side....
If SD keeps us up this year it'll be yet another minor miracle.

Fulham attack on the front foot we attack on the back foot as there is nobody who can move with the ball baring McNeil

Can someone explain why City's goal wasn't given offside? How can Rodri not be interfering with play when he sets the goal up? Was miles offside.
I’m not sure it’s possible for anyone to explain it. Whoever was on duty at Stockley Park got it wrong.

Apparently because Mings plays the ball the City lad is deemed onside. Cleared up by the Premier League and agreed on BT.

Apparently Rodri was not deemed to be gaining an advantage by being where he was. Which simply proves the games law writers dont actually understand the game at all.

he was massively offside, Mings brings the ball down knowing there is nobody legally around him. Disgusted with that
This is pretty much the scenario I was discussing with you last night, Vegas. Usually the defender would take the safe option and reluctantly make a headed clearance. In this case the defender is disadvantaged by the offside positioning of the attacker.

I feel the same about players stood in an offside position in the sight line of a goalkeeper - but I won’t get into that one again.

Utd hold on just, Fulham made it tough for them, but ultimately just like us came away empty-handed.

It's the sort of ugly win that gains you titles, and United are definitely gunning for top spot this season no matter what Ole might say.

In other news Celtic dropped yet more points in a 2-2 draw at Livingston, who played a shadow side to boot, even funnier Scoot Brown was given a straight red card only 5 minutes after coming off the bench.

Well watching our so called rivals for relegation recently doesn't fill me with optimism
I would agree, especially when they manage to score one of those things known as goals and have five, yes five, shots on target which is probably more than we can boast in our last couple of games put together

Perhaps but thus far they only have 2 to their name, a surprise one at Leicester, and a more routine one at home to West Brom, I do agree that the head-to-heads amongst all the lower teams will be crucial, and anyone who can string a few victories together against their relegation rivals has a great chance of staying up, but there's no reason why Burnley can't do just that if we can start netting goals.

Fulham have won just two games in eighteen matches. Very much like Brighton in that they seem to end up drawing plenty.

And like Brighton, failed to beat Sheff United.

Their next two are Brighton and West Brom.

Man Utd look the real deal to me. Perfectly balanced side nowadays. It’s been disgusting the way Ole has been treated in the press this season compared to Lampard. Who someone has escaped criticism despite getting his title challenges 2 points clear of relegation candidates Arsenal.

I think they probably got it right, unfortunately. It's the usual nonsense that (I presume) David Elleray's mob came up with. They think of a way they can marginally improve one aspect of a rule and they change it, without bothering to think through the implications of the things they are making worse.

The offside rule used to be that you were offside if you were interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage. Rodri was clearly doing both by chasing down the ball. But now, the offside rule has a long, specific list of things that you must be doing to be considered offside, and moving towards an opponent so you can tackle him the instant he touches the ball is not on that list. Obviously it should be, but the law-making fools forgot it or never thought of it.

Here's the list of what makes a player in an offside position, become offside:

Offside offence

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or
interfering with an opponent by:
preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
challenging an opponent for the ball or
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball
*The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used

or
gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent
been deliberately saved by any opponent
A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.
A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal with any part of the body except the hands/arms (unless the goalkeeper within the penalty area).

In situations where:

a player moving from, or standing in, an offside position is in the way of an opponent and interferes with the movement of the opponent towards the ball this is an offside offence if it impacts on the ability of the opponent to play or challenge for the ball; if the player moves into the way of an opponent and impedes the opponent's progress (e.g blocks the opponent) the offence should be penalised under Law 12
a player in an offisde position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence
an offence is committed against a player in an offside position who is already playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the offside offence is penalised as it has occurred before the foul challenge

I think I agree with you.
The blame for last night’s decision should not be with the referee or VAR, but the law itself.
It’s been shown to be an ass in this instant.

As soon as Mings touches the ball none of the opposition can be offside. I have understood this ‘playing onside’ to always be the case as long as I can remember.

Fulham have been doing so well in recent games that in the last eight games they have won o, drawn 5 and lost 3 scoring 4 goals and conceding 8 and picking up 5 points.
Our extremely poor team (according to a lot of our own fans) have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 3 scoring 5 goals and conceding 5 and picked up 11 points.
We aren't scoring, Fulham are having so many shots, however, in the last 8 games we have scored more goals than Fulham and conceded less. It's a funny old game!

Define “a lot”.

I think people thought we were doing ok recently apart from a poor all round performance on Saturday.

United - held our own against a good team
Sheff U - better team despite missing key players
Leeds - robbed by the Chuckle Brothers Jones and Oliver
Wolves - good performance
Villa - not the best
Arsenal - good performance
Everton - good performance

We played well against United and lost to a deflected goal from a team with undeniable quality. The frustration is that if we had played as well against West Ham we would have got at least a point. I suspect that the main reason was West Ham concentrated more on stopping us playing than United did.

Fulham and West Brom are playing like Norwich did last season.

They are creating chances but aren't keeping goals out meaning they have to score two to win a game.

Whereas we often only need one goal to win a match. That's the big difference.

But our win, Wolves aside have all been 1-0. It's telling that Fulham have scored more goals than us, yet have four points less.

Pretty much ever since we’ve been in the prem the first goal to the other team has meant a maximum of one point and usually none.....the key as others have said is our defence is probably a top 6 defence whereas the likes of Fulham, WBA etc have neither an attack or defence that is of top 6 standard

No surprise to see Jon Moss involved in yet another farcical incident. The very fact that Rodri was running towards Mings meant he was challenging for the ball so the goal shouldn't have stood. I've seen a lot of talk that Mings should have cleared the ball but that again implies he should do so because he's being challenged.

If the liner had flagged and given Rodri offside straight away, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

They "look good" though.
Style over substance, I'm sure Scott Parker would rather they were digging out a scrappy win in their position, rather than looking impressive, but coming away with nothing. There's a reason they only have 2 wins to their name halfway through the season, and unless they start turning these draws and narrow defeats into 3 points, they'll continue to struggle in the bottom 3.

The AR was correct in not flagging and he is the most experienced AR in England. Jon Moss was correct in allowing play to continue because that is the current Offside Law and its correct interpretation. Had Mings not played the ball at all and Rodri had then gone for it, the AR would have given offside.

I do not like the way that they have messed around with TLOG, however, the interpretation last night was 100% correct, although you have to feel some sympathy for Villa. Any defender would have done what Mings did and would have probably been bawled out by his manager for not doing so!

Here's the part of the law that relates to shots saved or blocked:

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
...
gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
...
been deliberately saved by any opponent
A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.
A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal ...
This means that tonight, if Salah has a shot that is deliberately blocked by Mee and Mane (in an offside position) scores, whether the goal stands depends on the quality of Salah's shot.

If the shot was going into or very close to the goal, then Mee has made a deliberate save and Mane is offside.

But if the shot was way off target, the Mee has not made a deliberate save and Mane is onside.

Well done, the lawmakers. If that is an attempt to make offside simpler, I think it hasn't worked.
